Have you read my previous review of the first book in this series Escaping Fate? If not follow this link to check it out.
This is not a full-length novel. It is a bonus scene from Escaping Fate, Veredian Chronicles Book 1 told in Lhor’s POV. Please read Escaping Fate first to fully enjoy this bonus scene.
Her sultry voice stirred the embers, deep in my gut, of a fire I had not felt in years. The same powerful connection struck me when our eyes met. My skin tingled and my pulse perked up. Her throat worked and her pupils dilated. She quickly looked away, breaking the bond.
Goddess have mercy.
Losing Amalia is a very quick read about 20 pages covering the fastening which is covered in Escaping Fate. This time though we see it from Lhor’s point of view and so get a new set of emotions and help to understand his emotional state at this time much more.
It’s really best to have read Escaping Fate first so that you fully understand the story surrounding this one. In Escaping Fate we are given this scene from Amalia and Khel’s points of view so this story rounds the whole scene off by giving us Lhor’s point of view.
I was really moved reading this, I felt pulled to Lhor through most of Escaping Fate and then reading this and seeing what he was going through during this early part of the story I felt even more connected to him. I definitely recommend reading.
Thanks to Regine Abel for the eARC of this book so that I could read and honestly review the book.
Welcome to New York Times and Sunday Times bestseller Brandon Sanderson’s first collection of short fiction.
These wonderful works, originally published individually, have been collected for the first time and convey the true expanse of the Cosmere. Telling the exciting tales of adventure Sanderson fans have come to expect, Arcanum Unbounded include the Hugo Award-winning novella ‘The Emperor’s Soul’, an excerpt from the graphic novel ‘White Sand’, and the never-before-published Stormlight Archive novella ‘Edgedancer’.
The collection will include nine works in all:
‘Edgedancer’ (Stormlight Archive)
‘The Hope of Elantris’ (Elantris)
‘The Eleventh Metal’ (Mistborn)
‘The Emperor’s Soul’ (Elantris)
‘Allomancer Jak and the Pits of Eltania’ (excerpt; Mistborn)
‘White Sand’ (excerpt; Taldain)
‘Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell’ (Threnody)
‘Sixth of Dusk’ (First of the Sun)
‘Mistborn: Secret History’ (Mistborn)
This superb collection also includes essays and illustrations which offer an insight into the numerous worlds in which the stories are set.
Arcanum Unbounded is the first short story collection from Brandon Sanderson, centred around the Cosmere, the universe that Sanderson has built his worlds upon you get a real feel for how each world relates to each other with this book a sense of just how big his worldview is and yet how small it is as well.
These short stories take you on journies, introduce you to new characters in familiar worlds, new worlds, new magic and in some cases bring us back to familiar faces and familiar places bringing a sense of homecoming.
Each story has a small note to inform of which novels it relates to and if there are spoilers so that you can skip those stories that may be an issue. There were a couple that I skipped because I’m behind on a couple of the series but I’ve marked the stories to return to them later.
It wasn’t really a surprise that the two stories I connected with the most were linked with novels I had loved the most. Firstly The Emperor’s Soul which was an Elantris story, to this day Elantris remains my all-time favourite Sanderson novel, and The Eleventh Metal which is a Mistborn story and sees us following a favourite character.
These stories given their short length are complex and detailed, they draw you in and as you would expect from Sanderson have plenty of twists and drama. This is a definite must-have for any Sanderson fans bookshelf.
I must thank Gollancz and Brandon Sanderson for the review copy of this book so that I could provide my honest opinion.
First Submission Angry at her cheating boyfriend, Selina revisits an old haunt looking for distraction. She might have found a little more than she bargained for in the form of Brody, but the attraction between them is too sizzling hot to be denied!
Second Surrender Sequel to First Submission, this is an exciting erotic adventure as Selina decides to go looking for the Brody, the Dom of her dreams! But will Brody be happy to see her, or was she just a one-night-stand he’s already forgotten?
Third Thrills Third in the Ranger Heat trilogy. Brody has to make the call to accept Selina as his permanent sub, or risk losing her to another Dom – forever.
I read these three short stories in one sitting, more as novella and as such have decided to review them in that way aswell.
Selina is in a very unsatisfying relationship with a guy who is quite frankly a bit of a dick. After finding out he’s been cheating on her while she’s been home keeping things ticking over for her, she walks out glams herself up and heads for a club to see some old friends and look for some fun. While she’s in there Brody catches her eye, obviously military there’s something strong and demanding about him that pulls her towards him.
They only have one night together, where she discovers just a small bit about being submissive and having a dom. The way that Lynch has written this is so real, unlike how it can often be portrayed, although enjoyable to read it’s often not real and lacks the intensity especially of the first time, this nailed it.
Despite being a submissive Selina is still a strong woman and Lynch has found a wonderful balance between her role as a woman and her role as a sexual submissive which I love. So many authors write sexual submissive’s as all round submissive’s which is just not the case. She has also written Brody as this power dom in the bedroom but then he is a sensitive and caring man, very thoughtful and not at all the asshole that dom’s are often portrayed as. I really love that she has done this taking the time to turn the stereotypes on their head.
As the stories progress and these two find themselves together and develop the relationship into a deeper bond later having to decide whether they stay together long term or go their separate ways there is an ever growing intensity which never leaves them. The BDSM factors are so raw and real that reading it is voyeuristic almost intrusive.
This is a fantastic mini series. I do wish it was a full size novel because I just felt like everything ended far too soon.
Jet-lagged after a long flight, the last thing Ellie needs is to get trapped in the elevator on the way to her hotel room. At least she’s not alone in her predicament; a sexy cowboy named Jacob is trapped in there with her. When her claustrophobia starts to get the best of her, he’s only too happy to lend a hand to help distract her. Both of them, actually. And his mouth. And the rest of his body…
Ellie’s Encounter is the first in the Elevator Encounters series. There’s a vintage elevator in a beautiful Art Deco hotel in New York, and the repairman swears it has a mind of its own. It only ever seems to break down when there’s a couple inside, you see…
This is a short story so I’m not going to go overboard on the review, it will be more of a mini-review if you like. Ellie’s Encounter is part of Lynch’s Elevator Encounter’s series and is a quick burst of what she has on offer. This was my first foray into Lynch’s writing and quite unusual as I rarely stray into short story territory as if I’m honest I don’t really find them satisfying.
Ellie has travelled to the States from jolly old England for a romance authors convention. When she gets on the elevator, or lift for my fellow Brits, she is joined by a rather sexy cowboy. Yay to being in America folks (having ridden an elevator in America with a sexy cowboy I can totally relate to her predicament…unfortunately mine didn’t break down like hers did!) So her elevator breaks down and of course they have to get to know each other!
It takes about 30 minutes of reading for a wonderfully erotic story to unfold, centred around the elevator. Now while I thoroughly enjoyed I still say even a novella is far more enjoyable as there is just a bit more substance and depth to those stories. A short story is just over far to quickly and I like to know more about the characters and what happens to them.

Gerald Stockwell-Poulter couldn’t help but feel it was extraordinary just how quickly his life had changed. Now, as Gerald’s life takes a quick turn for the worse, he must do things he has never done before. About Angelina Kerner
I wish I could sit down with you and have a nice warm cup of tea or a steaming mug of coffee, but since that’s not possible, how about a cyber-hug? I love hugs and coffee, a lot of coffee.
So, as an introduction, let’s start with, “I love to read and write”. I have so many stories inside my head that sometimes it’s impossible to know what’s real anymore. That doesn’t stop me from enjoying a great novel, though. Reading and writing is not all that I love, though it comes a close second. I love dancing, needlework, spending time with my family and friends, and most of all, the holidays. That’s when my family is all smiles. Smiles are the best, don’t you think?
I started writing stories for teen girls because I started writing in high school and I understood teen girls… or at least I thought so at the time. Throw in a hot guy, romance, and drama to get the perfect hypnosis formula for girls and some boys. Later, as I grew up, my characters grew up with me. I write a variety of books for all ages, mostly fantasy and chick-lit. An odd combination? You be the judge.
Currently, I divide my time between my family, work, writing, and a lot of cats. I’m also a new mother and you get to read about my journey on my blog once a month!
