André

The Marines trained me to set my sights and wait for the shot. For eight years, I guarded my brothers and defended my country. Now I protect my clients. My personal security firm is the best in the business because I leave nothing to chance… until a dark-haired, hazel-eyed spitfire crosses my path.

She and her sexy-as-hell striptease were supposed to be a one-night distraction. But too late I noticed the branding on her back and my blood ran cold. This woman wasn’t a distraction—she was a death sentence.

Knowing who she was left me no choice. I took her on as my client. But running from her past wasn’t an option.

The Marines didn’t train me to retreat. They taught me to engage.

One shot. One kill.

Review

André and Kendall, what a match. Kendall is a spitfire. She’s had a death sentence hanging over her head for years, a death sentence put there by her Father no less. She’s OK with it, she resigned to it. But André, hell he’s not going to have anyone die on his watch, at the very least, not this woman who is firing pistons all over his brain and body.

The chemistry between these two is incredible, Kendall’s smart mouth pulls them together in a way that would drive most men away. The way they join is perfect and as always with Sybil Bartel the sex scenes are beyond hot, going to a new level of incredible.

The suspense in this book as André battles to ensure Kendall’s safety is tense and we see some old favourites return to the fold and help out. Things do get incredibly tense and we meet a new character from Kendall’s old life who is quite frankly hot as hell!

So, yet again, I’m bowled over by Sybil Bartel’s writing, I have another Bartel man that I’ve added to my book boyfriend collection and I highly recommend.

Sending a huge thanks to Sybil Bartel and Xpresso Book Tours for the eARC so that I could honestly review this book.

About Sybil Bartel

Sybil Bartel - Author Image

Sybil Bartel grew up in Northern California with her head in a book and her feet in the sand. She dreamt of becoming a painter but the heady scent of libraries with their shelves full of books drew her into the world of storytelling. She loves the New Adult genre, but any story about a love so desperately wrong and impossibly beautiful makes her swoon.

Sybil now resides in Southern Florida and while she doesn’t get to read as much as she likes, she still buries her toes in the sand. If she isn’t writing or fighting to contain the banana plantation in her backyard, you can find her spending time with her handsomely tattooed husband, her brilliantly practical son and a mischievous miniature boxer…

But Seriously?

Here are ten things you probably really want to know about Sybil.

She grew up a faculty brat. She can swear like a sailor. She loves men in uniform. She hates being told what to do. She can do your taxes (but don’t ask). The Bird Market in Hong Kong freaks her out. Her favorite word is desperate…or dirty, or both—she can’t decide. She has a thing for muscle cars. But never reply on her for driving directions, ever. And she has a new book boyfriend every week—don’t tell her husband.

#Review: If I Want You by Rachel Brimble @RachelBrimble @WildRosePress

Description

When local journalist, Tori Peterson, fails to prevent a child abduction outside her niece’s school, her horror and guilt sparks a vow to do whatever it takes to get little Abby Brady home to her parents.

While Tori battles the vile memories of her own kidnapping as a child, she accepts the help of widowed father, Mark Bolton. As he and Tori join forces with the local police, their attraction and intimacy grows…along with their fears for Abby.

Links are uncovered between Abby’s disappearance and Tori’s kidnapping, and Tori is forced to accept the monster who held her captive is back. But this time, Tori is all grown up, and there is no way she will let him hurt another little girl.

Review

Tori Peterson witnesses every parent’s worst nightmare while picking her Niece up from school, another little girl being abducted. She isn’t quick enough to stop the abduction but she takes in as much detail as she can and raises the alarm. Determined to find out what happened to Abby Tori sets out on her own investigation using her connections as a local reporter to help her out.

Tori is closer to this than many would realise having been abducted as a little girl herself, and a parent from the school Mark becomes her only ally as she digs deeper and finds the connections that lead right back to her.

I loved Tori, her gumption, her unwillingness to just leave things alone. I hated how much pain she was in, how her own abduction had left her damaged and afraid.  I loved how Mark saw all of these things in her, he instinctively knew how to be with her, how far to push her, when to pull her in, when to love her, how to love her. I loved that his daughter seemed to instinctively see and know these things in both of them. She was a very clever kid,  probably the wisest character in the book.

The twists and turns in this book were mind blowing, I did suspect the person who turned out to be the abductor but dismissed them about five times telling myself I was being ridiculous. See always trust your instincts, Claire!

Overall, this was a strong, tense, and at times bloody hard to read book, but Mark and Tori are just such a wonderful couple I just wish they could have met walking the dog or something!

A huge thank you to Rachel Brimble and The Wild Rose Press for the eARC so that I could read and honestly review this book.

Dane

I’m silent. I’m trained. I’m lethal.

My hand skimming down your thigh, my gaze a weapon—I know more ways to kill you than please you.

But you’re not paying for my aim. You’re paying for my control. Bringing you a breath away from ecstasy, watching you beg as I hold back your release, I’ll show you exactly what you’ve been missing. Your hunger is my currency and five thousand is my price. I only have one rule—no repeats, because I’m not for keeps. I’m for sale.

One slow grind and I’ll give you exactly what you paid for.

Review

Phew! Someone get me a cold shower! Sybil Bartel is definitely a writer I am learning to love, and how can I not when she writes these hot alpha males who are beasts in bed, and have no apologies for the things they do out of bed. Cripes, for a girl that has a weakness for bad boys these books are pretty much perfect.

In Grind we take a closer look at Dane, we’ve briefly met him in the previous books but when he stalks onto the page in Grind we know he means business. He’s a cold-blooded killer, an assassin and it runs through his every pore. His connection to the other guys being he occasionally takes an escorting client, one night only, no repeats, not ever. Using the sex as a release after his other jobs. Sexy right?

When he returns home early and Irina is in his house, left there by Alex after she left her Arms Dealer Husband Viktor, Dane is far from amused, but she definitely has something he likes. He’s a dominant man and she’s a submissive, but a submissive who has been badly mistreated and conditioned.

This book was far more romantic suspense than the previous. There is a lot of violence in this book but still plenty of the sex that makes Sybil Bartel’s books so good. I loved how Dane never changed who he was at the core, he stayed a dark and strong personality, but he fell in love and risked everything to make sure Irina found safety, even if she didn’t want him.  He was so damn sexy, his appeal fell off the page.

Irina initially appears as weak and broken but as the book progresses you see just how strong she is and how much she is willing to risk to protect other people. She is a beautiful and strong person and all you want is for her to see it in herself.

I absolutely fell in love with these characters, this was a brutal story, but the characters have so much strength and their discovery of love is hard but worth it.
