Welcome to the final day of the Pretty Ugly release blitz from Enticing Journey Book Promotions. Today I have a review for you which I hope you will enjoy! This is the second book in Jane Anthony’s Addicted Hearts series. If you missed my review of book one on Tuesday then follow the link below to read it now!

Book One: Pretty Reckless

Description

We were meant to live happily ever after,

a promise I sealed with a band of gold.

Our road was rocky and rough, yet worth every mark etched on my heart.

Kat is my addiction.

I’m her salvation.

Two hearts joined in pain.

Yet beneath the surface of our intended bliss, a tsunami was brewing.

An unstoppable force driven by deceit.

Now I’m back in New York — the city that stole my soul — caught between the future that awaits and a past that won’t let go.

I promised us a happy ending

But the ugliest lies are the ones we tell ourselves.Pretty Ugly - Tour Banner

Review

After the turmoil of Pretty Reckless I thought I was prepared for Pretty Ugly but I didn’t have a clue what I was letting myself in for reading this book. Kat and Chase are seemingly living in bliss but they both are still haunted by the demons of their addiction and it really is only a matter of time until one of them bends too far and breaks.

I guess anybody reading this who hasn’t suffered with addiction would find it hard to understand that pull, how easy it can be to fall back down the rabbit hole and lose everything you’ve gained over the years of sobriety. But as someone living it I can tell you that every single day is a tremendous battle and sometimes things happen that rock that boat a little too much.

Seeing what happens in this book rocked my world as I read, tears pouring down my face as I watched Kat and Chase try to find their way through it back to each other. These two people are so real either of them could be me and I felt me heart ripping apart over and over through this book. Their love for each other just not being enough.

Pretty Ugly is dark, and gritty. Full of heart and soul. And it is well, ugly. But it is full of hope and love as well. I love these characters and I know that anybody who picks this series up is going to fall in love with them as much as I have.

Sending a huge thanks to Jane Anthony and Enticing Journey Book Promotions for the eARC so that I could read and honestly review this novel.

I’m on the blog tour for Pretty Ugly, book two in this series on Friday and I can’t wait to share my review of this book.

Description

Two years ago, I watched my girlfriend die.

We chased the high, night and day, searching for that magical fix that would cure the pain. But in the end, the escape she lived for took her from me.

Now, sober and rebuilding the life I almost destroyed, the last thing I need is another beautiful project dragging me down. Especially a Greek goddess with a sharp tongue and a drinking problem. But hidden inside Katarina’s charcoal gaze is a broken soul crying out for help. Like a true addict, I can’t say no.

Maybe if I can save her, it will make up for my past. But her salvation could also be my ruin.

Review

You can call me fickle, easily swayed, or even odd. But seeing on a Facebook post that this book had a Greek character I was sold, sign me up I say and there I am reading the first book and jumping on the blog tour train for the second book without even reading the blurb. Yes I am THAT obsessed with all things Greece (you live there for a year as well I guarantee you will join my club).

I opened Pretty Reckless and there was a Greek to English glossary which just gave me shivers (and made me feel a bit better as I thought I had forgotten all of my Greek and it turns out I haven’t…yay me!).

Then I start reading and I can’t even begin to describe the emotional tug of war that Jane Anthony put me through, not least because I saw so much of myself in both characters having been through much of what they were both battling. This book was one which touched a lot of nerves for me and I found myself sobbing through much of this book wishing they could find a way through their own personal turmoils even if they couldn’t find each other.

Chase is a recovering addict, he lives a simple life, he holds down a job, looks after his Gran and doesn’t get involved with women.

Kat is first generation Greek American, her family are traditional Greeks, but she is on a road to destruction, drowning her problems and memories. To say her last relationship ended badly would be an understatement of epic proportions. She has dreams but her family don’t support her.

When these two lost souls collide sparks fly and I felt caught in a trap with them as they pulled against and towards each other unsure which way they should be going and often at opposite times as one pulled away the other would be pulling toward so their wires would cross and messages never quite getting through.

This book tackles the struggles of addiction with such a raw honesty and although it brought back some horrific memories for me I was so entangled in the story of Chase and Kat I couldn’t help but to love the words on the page, every single one of them and to just root for these two people who deserved to find some peace and love.

Huge thanks to Jane Anthony for the eARC so that I could read and review this book honestly.

#Review: The Wanted by Nikki Hunter @NHuntAuthor

This is book two of a four book novella series. For my review of the first book follow the link below:

Book One: The Needed

Description

One soul mate is destiny. Five soul mates are cause for temporary insanity. Camila’s five infuriating mates are making her head spin. If only the craziness would stop.

After sparing Bekket’s life and finding out their fae queen has gone mad, Yehven, Kade, Zayn, Lance, and Camila are all being hunted. Can they play hide and seek long enough to gain allies?

The game of cat and mouse now begins.

Review

I was left at the end of The Needed with a need (sorry couldn’t help myself) to read more. I was totally sold on this series and just wanted more. The Wanted didn’t disappoint and Camila continued to be one kick-ass genie heroine in this instalment.

Trying to come to terms with having five mates and trying to bond with them and become comfortable with who she is and what having mates instead of her usual bonded. She embarks on a journey with her fae men to try and fix the problem with the fae Queen that Bekket brought to their doorstep in the last book.

Of course, more problems pop up with this mission, and we end with a devastating twist which has left me open mouthed and desperate for more.

Thanks to Nikki Hunter for gifting me this book so that I could read it and provide my honest review.

#BlogTour: Callan by Sybil Bartel @SybilBartel @XpressoTours #Review #Giveaway

I’ve gone back to orange which can only mean one thing, Callan is in the house again! Huge thanks to Sybil Bartel and Xpresso Tours for having me be part of this blog tour, and well all of the events related to this book launch. I’m a huge fan of Sybil Bartel’s and it’s been such a pleasure to be involved with everything to do with Callan finishing up with this blog tour and the chance to review this fantastic book.

If you need catching up on the Uncompromising series here are links to my reviews so far…but all Sybil Bartel’s work perfectly as standalone’s I read these all out of order (very unusual for me) and had no issues at all:

So are you ready to get a taste of Callan? I certainly am…

Description

Callan

I was trained to be a hunter. Growing up in the nation’s most infamous, violent cult, my job was simple. Track. Kill. Survive.

And that’s what I did… until our leader threatened to kill his own daughter.

Refusing to watch another senseless murder, I did what I was trained to do. I took his life. Then I claimed his land, and set every member free, including her. I only had one goal left. Find the sister I was told was dead.

But being a hunter in the woods is a far cry from tracking a woman in Miami Beach.

I didn’t find my sister.

I found my stepsister.

*CALLAN is the fifth standalone book in the Uncompromising Series. You do not have to read the books in this series in order, but if you prefer to read them in the order written, The Uncompromising Series is listed below.*

Callan - Tour Banner

Review

Callan is quite a bit different from Sybil Bartel’s other novels, while he is all alpha male he’s also naive and quite unsure of himself. Quite a hard character to get right I would guess but as with every character she writes Sybil Bartel doesn’t miss a beat. Combining his alpha traits with those more innocent traits to create a man that we just can’t help but to fall head over heels in love with.

If you’ve been following the books you will know we met Callan, as Hero, in André, the cult member who helped protect Kendall. I fell for him a little bit (OK a lot) in that book and was so pleased when I found out Sybil was writing a book about him. But to get those nuances right, a man who has known nothing but the cult he grew up in now navigating the real world, and falling in love. Damn…my heart was choking me all the way through this one.

Then there is Emily, his angel, who thinks of herself as an ugly duckling but all he see’s is absolute perfection. Except she’s his step-sister. And damn, just like that we have ourselves a forbidden romance with two of the sweetest most deserving people I’ve ever read. It was inevitible they would have to come together they couldn’t do anything else.

This went against everything we expect from Sybil Bartel, the language was toned down, it was a slow burn and the characters were far more innocent and naive than we normally see but god dammit it worked perfectly. I cried like a baby, I rooted for these two like I haven’t rooted for a book couple in ages and I WANT Callan’s form of Alpha in my life already!

It also dawned on me as I was reading that this group of people, have the worst bloody luck on the planet, when you look at what happens to each set of characters in each book they are plagued with bad luck beyond belief. It made me feel incredibly sorry for them…Sybil give them a break already!

Another winner from Sybil Bartel, I don’t think this lady could write a bad book if she tried.

Thank you to Sybil Bartel and Xpresso Blog Tours for the eARC so that I could read this early and give my honest opinion. I have already bought myself a copy so I can just read it for the rest of my life!

About Sybil Bartel

Sybil Bartel grew up in Northern California with her head in a book and her feet in the sand. She dreamt of becoming a painter but the heady scent of libraries with their shelves full of books drew her into the world of storytelling. She loves the New Adult genre, but any story about a love so desperately wrong and impossibly beautiful makes her swoon.

Sybil now resides in Southern Florida and while she doesn’t get to read as much as she likes, she still buries her toes in the sand. If she isn’t writing or fighting to contain the banana plantation in her backyard, you can find her spending time with her handsomely tattooed husband, her brilliantly practical son and a mischievous miniature boxer…

But Seriously?

Here are ten things you probably really want to know about Sybil.

She grew up a faculty brat. She can swear like a sailor. She loves men in uniform. She hates being told what to do. She can do your taxes (but don’t ask). The Bird Market in Hong Kong freaks her out. Her favorite word is desperate…or dirty, or both—she can’t decide. She has a thing for muscle cars. But never rely on her for driving directions, ever. And she has a new book boyfriend every week—don’t tell her husband.

To find out more about Sybil Bartel, be sure to follow her on Twitter (she loves to hear about your favorite book boyfriend!), visit her website, like her on Facebook or join her Facebook group Book Boyfriend Heroes for exclusive excerpts and giveaways.

#Review: The Viper’s Nest by Tate James @TateJamesAuthor

If you missed my review of the first three books in this series then you can check them out by following the link below.

Book One – The Vixen’s Lead
Book Two – The Dragon’s Wing
Book Three – The Tiger’s Ambush

Description

Betrayal has forced us on the run. Evading the very man I considered my family, the organization I once considered good. In hiding, I need to master my new power and find peace with my bonded guardian–or risk exposure.

But my heart can’t accept the events that led us here. I need answers. Closure.

An olive branch is offered and another trap is sprung. While my relationships grow stronger by the day, new tensions arise and ghosts of my past appear. But can anyone be trusted?

I’m Kit Davenport and I didn’t see that one coming.

Review

The Viper’s Nest focuses heavily on the relationships Kit has with her six dianoch. This book leaves the paranormal plot in the background a little as we see her strengthen her bonds with the men which can only mean one thing. Lots and lots of glorious sex!

Yes I know, some people are only in it for the plot (What?!) I hear you gasp in horror, Honestly while I am huge fan of the paranormal plots, a book like this to break up the heaviness of the story (which is a bloody fantastic story btw) really is a pleasure and seeing how our main character feels, her emotions growing and changing, especially as she takes on the magic of each of the men is incredible to me.

And, let’s just be honest here, I love some solid and enjoyable sex scenes and this book is just crawling with them. High five to Tate James!

I love that Kit swears like a trooper, she’s a lot like me for that, you go girl. Kit goes against a lot of the normal female stereotypes for novels in any genre actually. She’s sharp witted, dirty mouthed, not ashamed to want multiple men and have them and she’s a powerful being. She also knows when she needs support and doesn’t shy away from that. I really do love her, my kind of gal.

Oh and yet again the ended in a way that had me screaming, screeching and wanting to tear my bloody eyes out so yeah..thanks for that Tate!

I’m very excited for the next installment but also quite apprehensive as I know we’re nearing the end and I really don’t want this series to end…Tate please don’t do this to us…please?!

A human spirit reincarnated in the body of an ancient fae goddess, she’s spent the last five years in iron shackles, her mind poisoned with magic for secrets she doesn’t know.

Arlo.  Reece.  Killian.
Three men drenched in death, sin, and old magic.
From their clubhouse in the middle of the Louisiana bayou, they’ll offer Ciarah the keys to unlock her memories and control the veil between worlds.  But even her knights can’t erase the twisted scars that remind her they aren’t the only ones who hunt.

When The Wild Hunt rides, the souls of the dead join their parade.
All that’s missing now is their queen.

Review

So this is my second book by both authors, and I’m loving both of these ladies work so stinking much. The intense chemistry between all the characters is off the charts, and I love the fact that the female lead is dominant and not a damsel in distress, she’s strong, empowered and not at all ashamed of her body.

The male characters are amazing and intense more some than others. Her 3 appointed knights are all unique, and I cannot wait to read the next book I’m highly impatiently waiting, this is another 5* read for me, the writing and storyline and the plot, everything is brilliant these two talented authors are fantastic I’m so glad to have found them.

#Review: Cards From Khloe’s Flower Shop by Isabella Louise Anderson @ILA121209

Description

As the owner of a successful florist shop, Khloe Harper trusts her instincts. She has a strong bond with her family and friends, but after being betrayed by her last love, she’s kept herself at arms’ length from romance. When dashing entertainment attorney Derek Thomas walks into her store, Khloe’s interest is piqued. What at first seems like a business relationship quickly turns into romance, and Derek slowly plucks away the petals she’s been hiding behind. Just as Khloe lets down her guard, she discovers that Derek may not be worthy of her love after all.

Frumpy Connie Albright has a faux fascination with an imaginary man named Walt, thinking that by sending herself flowers from him she’ll feel less out-of-place with the “mean girls” she works with. When she comes face to face with her possible prince charming and thinking she might have a happy ending, when a truth is revealed, she wonders if she’ll ever have a Cinderella story.

A recently widowed senior, Gabby Lewis, isn’t ready to give up on love—which means releasing herself from survivor’s guilt and taking a chance on finding happiness and companionship again. After signing up for an online dating site for senior citizens, much to her surprise, she’s matched with Harry, an energetic and loving man, who quickly eases himself into her heart. Will Gabby take the leap of falling in love again, knowing it’s possible to have two loves of her life?

As each woman’s story develops through flowers and cards sent from Khloe’s shop during the Fall months, they begin to learn that love can only truly blossom when you trust your heart.

Review

This book is told through three stories, Khloe who owns a flower store, and Connie and Gabby who are customers of Khloe’s. Each woman is at different stages of their life, and each woman is looking for love in different ways.

Khloe is consumed by running her store, it’s gathering success and she loves bringing joy to people in the form of flowers. When she meets a man over her store counter she mistakes his advances for a business meeting.

Connie has never had a boyfriend, after being in a terrible accident as a young child she has never fully gained self-confidence and now sends flowers to herself at work because she is afraid of being seen as a loser for being single and wants to gain acceptance from the spiteful women she works with.

Gabby is a widow and feels like it may be time to dip her toe back in the water so joins a dating site.

The book is light-hearted and moves reasonably quickly. There were a few issues for me. It’s called Cards from Khloe’s Flower Shop so for me I expected the story to be shaped around the flower cards, but very few of them were mentioned. Not a huge issue I just got to the end of the book and felt the title didn’t really make much sense to the way the story shaped out.

I felt like some situations could have been played out for more chick-lit humour. Such as Gabby joining a dating site. The first response she gets is the person she ends up dating. Now I don’t know about the rest of you but my experience of dating sites was not that perfect. I think it would have been funnier and more realistic to have her wade through a few weirdos first.

I felt Connie’s situation was really over the top, do people really do what she was doing? Wouldn’t someone who had been through what she had been through have had therapy to help them deal with a lot of the issues she’d had? I struggled to believe that as a child she had been completely neglected and left to deal with all of her trauma which had then turned her into a completely unconfident and neurotic adult.

Khloe though I enjoyed, I understood her situation I believed her reaction to situations, although I found Derek a bit of an idiot for lying to her. I think I would have preferred just a solo story with just the two of them.

I didn’t dislike this book but I spent a fair amount of time frustrated with some of the reactions, decisions that were being made. There was also an uncertainty on how far to take the sex scenes, some of them crept close to being graphic and then cut off, others stayed strictly PG. I think authors need to decide which avenue they want to go down then stick with it. I have no issue reading PG books that don’t show sex, equally, as you all know, I love full graphic sex. But this 50/50 not sure where it’s going thing is awkward and uncomfortable for everybody.

I have to thank Isabella Louise Anderson and Jenny at Neverland Blog Tour for the eARC so that I can honestly review this.
