#Review: The Viper’s Nest by Tate James @TateJamesAuthor

If you missed my review of the first three books in this series then you can check them out by following the link below.

Book One – The Vixen’s Lead
Book Two – The Dragon’s Wing
Book Three – The Tiger’s Ambush

Description

Betrayal has forced us on the run. Evading the very man I considered my family, the organization I once considered good. In hiding, I need to master my new power and find peace with my bonded guardian–or risk exposure.

But my heart can’t accept the events that led us here. I need answers. Closure.

An olive branch is offered and another trap is sprung. While my relationships grow stronger by the day, new tensions arise and ghosts of my past appear. But can anyone be trusted?

I’m Kit Davenport and I didn’t see that one coming.

Review

The Viper’s Nest focuses heavily on the relationships Kit has with her six dianoch. This book leaves the paranormal plot in the background a little as we see her strengthen her bonds with the men which can only mean one thing. Lots and lots of glorious sex!

Yes I know, some people are only in it for the plot (What?!) I hear you gasp in horror, Honestly while I am huge fan of the paranormal plots, a book like this to break up the heaviness of the story (which is a bloody fantastic story btw) really is a pleasure and seeing how our main character feels, her emotions growing and changing, especially as she takes on the magic of each of the men is incredible to me.

And, let’s just be honest here, I love some solid and enjoyable sex scenes and this book is just crawling with them. High five to Tate James!

I love that Kit swears like a trooper, she’s a lot like me for that, you go girl. Kit goes against a lot of the normal female stereotypes for novels in any genre actually. She’s sharp witted, dirty mouthed, not ashamed to want multiple men and have them and she’s a powerful being. She also knows when she needs support and doesn’t shy away from that. I really do love her, my kind of gal.

Oh and yet again the ended in a way that had me screaming, screeching and wanting to tear my bloody eyes out so yeah..thanks for that Tate!

I’m very excited for the next installment but also quite apprehensive as I know we’re nearing the end and I really don’t want this series to end…Tate please don’t do this to us…please?!

#GuestReview: The Vixen’s Lead by Tate James @TateJamesAuthor @PaRoyle #Review

Time for our second review from my new guest reviewer Siobhan. If you missed her first review head back to yesterday to see her review of Groupie by C.M. Stunich. Today we have The Vixen’s Lead, this is another one that I have reviewed already so you can compare notes by catching up with my reviews here.

Description

I want vengeance so badly that I can almost taste it. It’s all I’ve ever wanted. So, I did what any privileged, adopted boarding school girl would do. I slapped on a secret identity and became an internationally renowned thief, known as The Fox. Nobody knows me. Nobody can catch me.

Or so I thought…

It turns out; I have what they want. Special abilities. And trust me, these abilities are coveted–and dangerous. Now, I don’t know who to trust or where to go. Peril lurks on every corner as I try to uncover my past and origin. Teaming up with unlikely allies may be my only chance at survival or my biggest mistake. Only time will tell.

I’m Kit Davenport and this is only the beginning.

Review

This book is about Kit, an 18-year-old school girl thief, it’s a bit cheesy but good. It’s got action, laughter fun, and some intense sexual moments. The girl suffers from a dark twisted past of pain and torture and my heart went out to her.

She then meets the omega gentlemen all hot in their own right, like some of them are seriously sexy, they are intense dominant and sweet all with a dark past, they come together to try and find out who is hunting Kit.

If you’re looking for a comedy/reverse harem with a cliffhanger then this is the book for you I’m gonna jump on in the books in the series.

#BlogTour: Baby Girl by C.M. Stunich @CMStunich @XpressoTours #Review #Giveaway

As you all know, I am always super excited to welcome C.M. Stunich to the blog. She is by far one of my favourite authors and luckily for me churns books out at a rate that means I always have something of hers ready to go on my Kindle. Today I’m reviewing her latest release a heartwrenching love story, Baby Girl.

Please follow this tour by clicking the link, the wonderful Xpresso Book Tours is hosting.

Description

He died that night, alone, in the rain, in the dark, the boy that called me baby girl.

I was only seventeen; we were going to be together forever.

On his way to pick me up for prom, he swerved. I’ll never know what made him do it, what killed the boy I’d loved my whole life. With roses clutched in his hand, he bled out in icy wetness all alone.

His best friend is here though, and I’m pretty sure he loves me.
But after the accident, I left for a year and didn’t look back.

Now I’m back in town and my heart is like shattered glass.
Do I pick up the pieces and risk getting cut? And do I let another boy call me baby girl?

Baby Girl - Tour Banner

Review

Codrick is Embry’s world, they are engaged and they know that spending the rest of their lives together is all that matters. They are a unit rounded out by their best friend Phoenix. The story opens with one of the most heartbreaking scenes I have ever read as Embry and Phoenix wait for Codrick only to find he has been killed.

Stunich doesn’t hold back in making sure that as readers we are wrenched through the agony of grief with our characters. Left to pick up the pieces of their lives without the one person they both loved more than life itself. Phoenix turns to Embry but she does the only thing she can think of and runs.

Just over a year later she returns, still weighed down with grief, still heartbroken, still a shadow of the woman she used to be and Phoenix takes it on himself to make sure she doesn’t run again.

This book broke my heart, over and over and over again. Anybody who has been deep in grief and felt like they will never smile or laugh or live again will understand what this book did to me. The emotion was raw and true. As Phoenix and Embry found their way towards each other discovering how they could help each other, as Embry realised she needed the support Phoenix could offer, their shared memories of Codrick the more a fresh romance blossomed, something delicate and requiring baby steps.

There were violent scenes as they got involved in a dangerous underground scene, but even this worked to help them find some closure on their past, particularly for Embry.

This book is heartbreaking but hopeful; violent, but healing; and grief and rebirth all in one tiny package.

About C.M. Stunich

C.M. Stunich - Author Image

C.M. Stunich is a self-admitted bibliophile with a love for exotic teas and a whole host of characters who live full time inside the strange, swirling vortex of her thoughts. Some folks might call this crazy, but Caitlin Morgan doesn’t mind – especially considering she has to write biographies in the third person. Oh, and half the host of characters in her head are searing hot bad boys with dirty mouths and skillful hands (among other things). If being crazy means hanging out with them everyday, C.M. has decided to have herself committed.

She hates tapioca pudding, loves to binge on cheesy horror movies, and is a slave to many cats. When she’s not vacuuming fur off of her couch, C.M. can be found with her nose buried in a book or her eyes glued to a computer screen. She’s the author of over thirty novels – romance, new adult, fantasy, and young adult included. Please, come and join her inside her crazy. There’s a heck of a lot to do there.

Oh, and Caitlin loves to chat (incessantly), so feel free to e-mail her, send her a Facebook message, or put up smoke signals. She’s already looking forward to it.

#Review: The Tiger’s Ambush by Tate James @TateJamesAuthor

If you missed my review of the first two books in this series then you can check them out by following the link below.

Book One – The Vixen’s Lead
Book Two – The Dragon’s Wing

Description

My quest for answers is what’s led me here. Here, to the edge of civilization where shifters are free from persecution and able to live in peace. Or, at least they were until I arrived. In the aftermath of the trouble I brought, one man holds the answers I seek so desperately.

Whether he will part with his secrets, that’s another matter.

This world is not what I always thought it to be and someone is doing their best to kill us all; when accidents continue to happen I must consider the possibility that someone I love is setting me up. With the fate of the world at stake, I must face the demons of my past or risk being consumed by them. But this time, I’m not alone.

I’m Kit Davenport and this is going to leave a mark.

Review

Tate James what are you doing to me woman?! This book was my last read of 2017 and continues the Kit Davenport series with some serious drama. We have horrendous attacks, kidnappings, and suspected betrayal as Kit uncovers more information about who she is and where she comes from.

Then there is her relationship with the guys, which just gets, well, hotter and more frustrating. She’s got the guys she’s attached to already, completely all-in with them. Then there’s poor Wes who doesn’t seem to have any luck when it comes to Kit, but she wants him…she wants him bad.

My favourites though, Austin, moody, grumpy, full of attitude Austin. Yeah we get much more of him in this book and all I can do is thank Tate for that because he is just a pleasure to read, a real pleasure…I like him in case you missed that!

My other favourite is, Vali, the bad boy mob boss dragon shifter who just has everything I look for in an alpha when I’m reading and although there wasn’t much of him in this book where he appeared was perfection.

Finally, the ending! OMG! Tate James is masterful at her cliffhangers…I’m just dangling here…just friggin dangling.

#Review: Impossible Promise by Sybil Bartel @SybilBartel @CarinaPress

Description

Three years ago, Layna Blair listened in horror over a telephone line as her parents were murdered. When the killer said she was next, Layna panicked and made a deadly deal—his secret in exchange for her life. She’s paid the price every day since, becoming a prisoner in plain sight.

Marine Sergeant Blaze Johnson offers Layna a way out—her freedom, his rules, no questions asked—and she takes it, despite knowing what her keepers do to people who get too close. She doesn’t know Blaze is fighting his own demons or that beneath his warrior façade is a man on the verge of breaking.

Embarking on a wild revenge mission with Blaze and his smooth-talking best friend, Talon, is not what Layna signed on for. But attempting to run when Blaze has made no secret he intends to make her his is a reckless mistake. With the killer closing in, it’s up to Blaze to save them all—and to Layna to realize that she’s risked the one thing she can’t afford to lose.

Review

Oh my freaking God!

You know it’s kind of weird jumping all the way back to the beginning. I know ultimately how this story turns out because I’ve read all of the later books featuring other characters who are just on the periphery in this book but I just needed to read Blaze and Layna’s story and hot damn, is it lighting a few fires!

This is where it all starts, this is where the groundwork is first laid for all those guys I’ve already fallen for in the later books. Some of them appear here, some are alluded to but ultimately this is about the nightmare Layna is living and Blaze is determined to get her out of.

Layna is one of those characters you can’t help but love, she heard these awful people murder her parents and then found a way to ensure they didn’t do the same to her, even if it did mean being a prisoner. Now Blaze has a solution to that problem and she’s all balls of steel and standing up to fight, trying to keep him safe, while he tries to keep her safe. God that woman is someone I can truly respect.

The balance of her attraction to Blaze versus her friendship with Talon was perfect. I loved Talon in this and it helped me understand him a little more, gave a bit more depth to the joker he often comes across as. He is a truly solid, caring guy deep down and Layna’s relationship with him is a really beautiful one to see develop.

Blaze is such an incredible guy, he’s going through some pretty awful shit during this time and the way he pushes it aside to look after Layna and show her how he cares is moving and I was willing them to find each other and come together.

I am eager to get onto book two and see how their relationship develops. I have a feeling more evil is heading their way but hoping together they will destroy it.

#Review: The Dragon’s Wing by Tate James @TateJamesAuthor

If you missed my review of the first book in this series then you can check it out by following the link below.

Book One – The Vixen’s Lead

Description

I should have known my quest for vengeance would eventually be my downfall. I should have been more careful, more paranoid–but I’m glad I wasn’t. Who knew that getting caught for my crimes would lead to so much happiness?

But joy can be fleeting…

It turns out, this battle is only just beginning. With ultimate power on the line, my faceless enemies will stop at nothing to capture me, dead or alive. I need to master my abilities, fast, or this could be the end for someone I care far too deeply about.

I’m Kit Davenport and this is going to be a bumpy flight.

Warning: This is a reverse harem story with sex, violence and swearing.

Review

Holy-Freakin-Moly, it’s hard to beat the kind of wow factor that the first book in this series had, but this book really had everything I wanted and more.

Kit is tenacious, feisty, and doesn’t let anything get to her whatever the situation. As she learns more about her strengths and supernatural powers in this book she also grows closer to her men. Relying on them for support to grow and become the woman she’s meant to be. Each of the men wants to protect her but they allow her to be the strong woman she is and help her face the challenges coming her way, they support her with the investigation into her past to find out about her future.

Somebody new enters the fray in this one, somebody already connected to the group that we didn’t know about who Kit feels drawn to, who is connected to Kit but tensions run high when he steps into the light. His presence adds an interesting dynamic and I couldn’t help but enjoy seeing how he implanted himself and I’m looking forward to seeing how his storyline develops.

Finally…Dragons, yay, Dragons. We all know, put dragons in a story and I’m happy.

Tate James, has absolutely nailed this continuation of the series, can’t wait to get my teeth into the next part of the series, seriously, this is such good stuff.

The Vixen's Lead - Tour Banner

Review

I had heard a lot about this book and it was patiently sitting on my TBR while I waded through the mountain of books I had, then the opportunity to review it for this tour came up and I leapt at it knowing I could totally queue jump it. I’m so pleased I did, Kit Davenport is one of those characters you just love thoroughly. She’s got a feisty attitude, can kick ass and is sexy as hell to boot, and unlike some characters, you don’t resent her for that sexiness one little bit.

Kit has had a shit life, but things are kind of on the up now, she’s been adopted by a nice, rich guy who despite a lack in parental experience genuinely cares for her and has sent her to a good boarding school with her best friend so she isn’t alone. She is also a master thief, known only as The Fox, evading capture until one night she doesn’t and she has to form an alliance with some unlikely partners.

Enter the men…Thank you, Tate James because these guys are such an eclectic mix yet they come together so perfectly and despite this being a truly slow-burn novel the heat is palpable throughout. Each of the guys has their own distinct personality and I didn’t want any of them to leave the page when they were on it, but then they would and another one would appear and I would feel the same again. Such brilliant writing.

I steamed through this book and I went straight to Amazon and downloaded the second book in the series and intend to read it much quicker than I read this first one because I just have to know what happens next. I highly recommend this, reverse harem readers are going to eat it up, new readers to reverse harem are going to love it’s slow-burn introduction to the genre. The suspense aspects of the novel are fantastic and the paranormal elements are perfect. I just can’t rave about this novel enough, one of my favourites this year.

Sending huge thanks to Tate James and Xpresso Book Tours for the eARC so that I could honestly review this book.

Tate James was born and raised in the Land of the Long White Cloud (New Zealand) but now lives in Australia with her husband, baby and furbaby.
