#GuestReview: Groupie by C.M. Stunich @CMStunich @PaRoyle #Review

Hey Guys, I made a new friend recently and as we’ve talked we have a lot in common when it comes to books. She’s only written reviews for Goodreads, but when I read one she posted recently her enthusiasm for the book, her passion for the story shone through and I asked if she would like to review some books for the blog. I always think getting different POV’s even on books I may have reviewed ads a different element to the blog. Luckily, the very lovely Siobhan said yes!

We are kicking off her reviews with Groupie by C.M. Stunich, you can catch my review here if you want to see what I thought, and Siobhan’s review is below.

Description

“Can one of these five rockstars fill the hole in my heart? Or will I stay broken forever?”

Young, dumb, and broke.

That’s what started everything. With five dollars in her pocket, and everything she owns stuffed in the back of her car, Lilith Goode’s life is over. Done. Destroyed.

Ten words. One text. That’s what it took to change the whole world.

A crumpled concert ticket. A chance encounter. That’s what it takes to start all over again.

Five rockstars. One girl. Six dark hearts, six withered souls.
But can one broken person really put another back together again?

Review

So C.M is a new author to me, I’d never heard of her before a friend recommended her to me, but now I’m buying all her books. Groupie is an emotionally intense, hot book, the Male leads are all broken, hiding secrets and running from dark pasts, which gives them all completely different personalities but they all have two things in common, the female lead and their band. The female lead Lil, made me cry and had me laughing so hard sometimes. She’s a shattered soul who’s trying to stay strong in a world where she doesn’t know if she belongs.

Can 6 damaged broken souls find happiness or love, or will they succumb to their broken pasts?

If you’re looking for an emotionally charged sexy as hell read with 5 hot as sin men and a strong-willed vixen then this is for you, I’m highly recommending this book.

#BlogTour: Air Guitar and Caviar by Jackie Ladbury @JackieLadbury @FabrianBooks @rararesources #Review

Hey Guys, I am so pleased to welcome you to the final day of the Air Guitar and Caviar blog tour. My review is below and there is also a cover teaser for Jackie’s next novel, the full cover reveal is tomorrow so don’t miss it! You will also find a fab giveaway that you won’t want to miss out on.

Description

Busker Dylan spends his days pulling pints in the local pub and singing on the high street, waiting for fame to call. That suits him fine, until beautiful, but frosty, air stewardess, Scarlett, tosses some coins into his hat but ignores his killer smile and his offer of pizza.

He sets out to get the girl, but Scarlett isn’t in the right frame of mind to date anyone, let alone a penniless, if charming, busker boy.

Dylan’s desperate for his big break, but will it bring him the happiness he longs for? And with Scarlett’s past threatening to ruin her future, will Dylan be left to make sweet music all on his own?

Air Guitar and Caviar - Tour Banner

Review

The premise for this book was totally up my street, a busker see’s the woman of his dreams and pursues her with dogged enthusiasm. But she is disinterested due to a history involved with musicians.

The overall story arc was one I thoroughly enjoyed and with different characters playing the parts I think this would easily have been a five star read for me. Unfortunately I struggled with the characters themselves which hampered my enjoyment of the book a little.

Scarlett our leading lady was just plain unlikeable. She had issues and understandable issues but she came across as cold and quite cruel at times. I didn’t warm to her at any point in the book, nothing about the way she spoke, held herself or responded to Dylan at any time made me think she worthy of the attention he was giving her.

Then Dylan, he was such a contradiction, I found him really hard work. I liked him, I really liked him, a lot. But I felt like I didn’t know him, actually, he didn’t know himself too well. He was super confident one minute then a quiverin anxious mess the next.  He would be full of confident lines with Scarlett then really unsure of himself. There was a real lack of consistency within his personality and I found it really confusing…and I know, yes, real people are like that. But for the purposes of reading it’s super hard to nail down a personality in a book when they are bouncing around like that.

So, overall…I enjoyed this book, it was a quick, fun, read but I didn’t gel with the characters the way I would want to with a quick, fun, romance and that did take away from my overall enjoyment.

Sending a huge thanks to Jackie Ladbury, Fabrian Books, and Rachel’s Random Resources for the eARC so that I could read and honestly review this novel.

About Jackie Ladbury

Jackie Ladbury - Author Image

Jackie Ladbury was desperate to become a journalist when she left school but was ousted within minutes on the day of the exam at her local rag because she’d forgotten to bring a pen.

Short and sharp lesson learned.

Her budding writing career was not on hold for long, though, as Jackie found herself scribbling love stories of pilots and ‘hosties’ while she flew in aeroplanes of various shapes and sizes as a flight attendant herself.

Fast forward a good few years and, after being short-listed in a couple of prestigious romantic writing competitions, Jackie decided it was time to discard her stilettos, say goodbye to the skies and concentrate on writing romantic novels, where the only given is a guaranteed ‘happy ever after.’

Review

Wow…Sitting down to read this boxset I had no idea what I was letting myself in for. Five full length novels and three bonus short stories to cap off the reading experience. I agonised over the best way to write this review and decided that short reviews of each individual novel was the way to go…so here we go get ready…

Real Ugly - C.M. StunichReal Ugly
Indecency are headlining a big tour and Turner Campbell is their lead singer, Amatory Riot are their main support and Naomi Knox is their leader and lead guitarist. Turner and Naomi met once before but Turner doesn’t remember, it’s scorched in Naomi’s memory though and she hate’s him with a passion of a thousand suns. As Turner gets to know Naomi though he starts to remember and wants to know more, trying to win her over and convince her he’s not the guy she thinks he is. But something is sinister is happening, and something from Naomi’s past threatens to destroy her future. I was gripped, tearful and completely absorbed in this book which I read in one sitting.

Get Bent - C.M. StunichGet Bent
Turner is desperate and I got completely swept up in his desperation in this book. Naomi is missing presumed dead, and all Turner wants is to find her but there are no leads and weird things keep happening. As the tour continues with people filling in the gaps in the bands for the missing and dead Turner investigates and tries to figure out what is happening and who is causing all of the mayhem. This is an incredibly tense read and not at all what I expected when I started this series, but I just couldn’t put it down. This is the point where these characters really started digging into my skin and becoming a part of me.

Tough Luck - C.M. StunichTough Luck
Ronnie is the drummer in Turners band Indecency and Lola drums for one of the support bands Ice and Glass, we learn so much more about the evil plot in this book thanks to Lola who has been a part of it but jumps ship to join the good guys. These two are about as fucked up as any character I’ve read of C.M. Stunich yet and she writes them so well you can’t help but to adore the hell out of them. They are so perfect for each other and really do need each other to get through this bloody awful situation.

Bad Day - C.M. StunichBad Day
We’re back with Turner and Naomi in this book and the range of emotions is a true rollercoaster as we battle with them dealing with potentially losing one of Turner’s friends, Naomi battles with her feelings for Turner which is understandably hard for her given their history, and Turner has to try and handle his feelings of jealousy over Dax, her bandmate, being in love with Naomi. So much going on here and I was so engrossed I flew through the book in record time and this series is proving to be romantic suspense at it’s best, I’m on the edge of my seat and the sex is off the charts hot.

Born Wrong - C.M. StunichBorn Wrong
Dax McCann has been one of my favourite side characters in this series, his being in love with Naomi has been a little annoying though and he needed shaking out of it and in this novel C.M. Stunich gives him a good shake up with Sydney Charrel, stripper sister to Trey, Turner’s band mate. As soon as they meet sparks fly. She knows he’s in love with Naomi but they feel a need to be near each other anyway. You know all the great romances start like that right? I feel like there will be so much more to this story…SO much more!

If you missed it, I took part in the book blitz for Bennett and the post went live earlier today, there is a fantastic excerpt to give you a taste of what you will get with this book and there is also a giveaway so head there if you want to check it out.

Description

Being the drummer for the hottest new rock band should’ve been a dream come true. Sold out shows, women, more money than I deserved…

But I didn’t want any of it.

The fame sucked, the money was a burden and I’d given away my only chance at ever having her—my best friend’s sister.

I wasn’t supposed to touch her. My best friend made me swear I wouldn’t. Then he was deployed, and he told me to look out for her. Except being around her while still keeping my distance was slowly killing me. Touring with the band should’ve been the perfect escape… Until I fucked up.

I fucked up so bad, she was half-conscious in my arms, fighting for her life.

Bennett - Teaser 2

Review

I’ve been dying to read this for months and I devoured it Bennett was everything I had hoped for and more, it took me to uncomfortable and tortured places but the solid love and need between these two characters was something real and the need for them to make it propelled me through this book.

Bennett and Elyssia have known each other since they were teenagers, they’ve been in love with each other just as long, but they’ve done nothing about it. Marcus, Elyssia’s brother and Bennett’s best friend would have none of it. Now Bennett is a famous rock star, Elyssia is shy, and Marcus is a vet with PTSD.

While the main romantic story is focused on Bennett and Elyssia I was drawn into Marcus’ story, having seen a friend go through almost exactly what Marcus went through I felt connected to his battle and wanted to see him overcome his demons. To say I shed a few tears would be an understatement. This book ripped me apart in ways I didn’t think would be possible.

Bennett is one of the characters you can’t help but fall in love with, even if I wasn’t a rock chick I would want to love him. He’s such a loving man and he would do anything for the woman he loves including walking away from his career if it came to that. The way he puts her before everything says so much to me and I adored reading him and discovering the kind of person he was.

Elyssia, on the surface, comes across as quite a meek person, but she’s actually incredibly strong and has a lot of courage and inner strength. We see more of it as the book progresses and I like that Sybil Bartel has shown that a woman doesn’t have to be in your face strong to be a strong woman with this character.

This is by far the best book in the series yet, it’s blown me away on so many levels and I will be carrying it with me for a long time. I also just have to add, the cover, wow, just wow…can I have a poster?

Sending huge thanks to Sybil Bartel for sending the eARC so that I could read and honestly review this novel.

#Review: Biker Rockstar Billionaire CEO Alpha by Violet Blaze @IAmVioletBlaze @CMStunich

Description

Sold to a billionaire.
That’s not my love story; that’s my nightmare.
Dash Buchanan, lead singer of Pistols and Violets, risked his life to rescue me from that auction block.
Once upon a time, his father stole millions from my father’s motorcycle club.
Now, the business he started with that money is worth billions.
Because of that, Dash and I could lose more than just our lives.

BDSM as a weapon.
Dash would be my Dom; I would be his sub.
It was the only way to get into their club, to make them trust us so we could save the others.
I just didn’t expect to like it so much—or want it outside of our mission.

A hot rocker boy with a sultry Southern accent.
A Weeping Bones Motorcycle Club daughter turned assassin.
A billionaire auction gone wrong.

Revenge, sex … romance.
As dangerous as it is spectacular, as fierce as it is unexpected.

Review

Violet Blaze is another pen name for C.M. Stunich and we all know how much I love her books! I was instantly attracted to this book, I mean, Bikers, Rockers and BDSM I was sold.

Dash is the lead singer of a rock band, he’s also the son of the head of an M.C. and CEO of a bike manufacturer, oh yes, he also hates his Father with a passion.

Then there is Adelaide, a daughter in a rival M.C. and she’s also one of their hired assassins, seriously this couldn’t get better. Except it does when she is hired to kill Dash!

You see where this is going don’t you?! Oh yeah! These two knew each other as children before all the bad blood and pow, bang, attraction!

This book has some really uncomfortable subjects, sex slavery being up there, but it really hits the mark on trying to fight them head on. Adelaide and Dash are fantastic characters strong yet vulnerable. They discover a passion for BDSM together which is passionate and the Japanese rope bondage is, well…hot!

I loved these characters and their journey merely started in this book, can’t wait for the next one to see what happens next.

#Review: Farraway Mist by Tani Hanes @TaniHanes

Description

Scout Lawson is fleeing an unhappy past, and thinks she’s run as far as she can from Yale University when she lands a job restoring a library in Cornwall, England for reclusive rock star George Wilder, who dropped out of sight after the death of his beautiful wife the year before. As soon as she arrives at his estate, Farraway Mist, however, strange things start to happen. As the couple’s feelings for each other grow, the events become more harrowing, until everything they hold dear is in peril.

Review

After reading Tani Hanes’ entire UK Crush series in a few months I was over the moon to get the chance to read her new novel in advance of its publication. Farraway Mist is quite different from the UK Crush novels, but Tani Hanes writing is very distinctive and as soon as I started writing I very much felt wrapped in familiarity.

Scout Lawson is ready for a fresh start and has taken a job as a librarian in Cornwall for a reclusive ex-rock star George WIlder.  George has been out of commission since his wife died the year before.

Sparks fly between the two almost immediately, although various things get in their way from assumptions they make about each other to strange things that start happening around the house putting them in danger.

I loved the paranormal element to this novel, it added a new level to the novel above the romance, I wasn’t sure what was going to happen or when and just wanted these two characters to fight their way through it. While I loved that they come together and it ramps up the supernatural I found their jump from nothing to trying for a baby a bit odd. It felt like they missed several steps on the relationship ladder, and their families are so cool and relaxed about it.

The climax of the novel is deeply moving, hugely tense and I really didn’t see how it was going to work out at all. There’s a lot that’s not explained but I think with paranormal elements it doesn’t need to be, as readers we can accept that things happen for the reasons we are given and that’s all we need to know.

Overall, an adorable paranormal romance with lovable characters.

Huge thanks to Tani Hanes for sending me the eBook copy which I have read and reviewed honestly.

Shabby Sunday: The New Penguin Dictionary of Music – 1977

Shabby Sunday is a meme created by Mischenko at Read Rant Rock & Roll. The idea is to share our old/vintage books. I honestly don’t have much by way of books that qualify for this but when I was checking my bookshelves out I found this one and knew it was one to share. I will check out books I have in storage at my Mum’s as well when I can in case any of them qualify but that will require making my brother climb in the attic so I will need to catch him in a happy mood!

This book is probably one of the few things I would save in a fire. It’s also falling apart at the seams, and riddled with mould spores thanks to the house I used to live in being a mould death trap. My Great-Grandad who I adored gave it to me when I was 11 and moved up to secondary school. That was about the time it became clear I was going to take studying music seriously. This had belonged to him, he didn’t play any instruments as far as I know, but he absolutely loved music and we used to listen to music together quite often. He bought me my first clarinet and gave me this book, which went with me everywhere and helped me immensely with my music theory study.

This is the fourth edition and was published in 1977, this is a book which has been well used and is well loved. I can’t look at it without remembering my Great-Grandad and how supportive he was of my studies.

Quite coincidentally, when I was at the fantasy faction event at Waterstones in Bath a few weeks ago, I glanced up at one of the shelves and saw the most recent edition on the shelf and was so pleased they are still publishing it. Details for buying the latest version are below.
