Welcome to another review from my guest reviewer Siobhan…

Description

Ciarah O’Rourke was born into torture.
A human spirit reincarnated in the body of an ancient fae goddess, she’s spent the last five years in iron shackles, her mind poisoned with magic for secrets she doesn’t know.

Waking up in a dirty alley with no memory of her escape, Ciarah finds herself in the hands of The Wild Hunt Motorcycle Club–a ruthless and violent group of bikers with faerie blood in their veins.

Arlo.  Reece.  Killian.
Three men drenched in death, sin, and old magic.
From their clubhouse in the middle of the Louisiana bayou, they’ll offer Ciarah the keys to unlock her memories and control the veil between worlds.  But even her knights can’t erase the twisted scars that remind her they aren’t the only ones who hunt.

When The Wild Hunt rides, the souls of the dead join their parade.
All that’s missing now is their queen.

Review

So this is my second book by both authors, and I’m loving both of these ladies work so stinking much. The intense chemistry between all the characters is off the charts, and I love the fact that the female lead is dominant and not a damsel in distress, she’s strong, empowered and not at all ashamed of her body.

The male characters are amazing and intense more some than others. Her 3 appointed knights are all unique, and I cannot wait to read the next book I’m highly impatiently waiting, this is another 5* read for me, the writing and storyline and the plot, everything is brilliant these two talented authors are fantastic I’m so glad to have found them.

Review

When Ciarah wakes up in a dirty alley she has no memory, found by The Wild Hunt motorcycle club she is taken in and given support and help. As her memories start to return they are full of horror and torture, and the people who did that to her haven’t gone away.

Ciarah is someone special, someone powerful, someone important and The Wild Hunt MC is going to protect her and help her through it. This especially applies to three key members of the club, Arlo, Reece, and Killian. For they aren’t just an MC, they are all members of the fae. And these three fae men are full of magic and lust which swirls around Ciarah and draws her to them.

I was deeply drawn to the paranormal story presented here, it was dark…really dark and our authors didn’t hold back on detail, brought in the form of flashbacks, memories, and dreams. Ciarah was the forming of the immortal fae woman and a human girl who was transferred into the immortal body. This makes for a really interesting balance with her personality, and also her background story. It was also a great way to make the non-human character much more human.

The relationship with the men was fitting, it was worked into the story perfectly with the sexual scenes not overbearing the main storyline but it was still thoroughly enjoyable and extremely hot. As with the previous series, these two authors have written and both of their individual books the men are very individual and have very solid distinct personalities which makes them each adorable and lovable, or downright annoying in their own right.

This was a fantastic read, the final couple of chapters especially standing out as completely unputdownable. I’m really looking forward to the second book in this series and seeing what Ciarah and her MC get up to next.

I’m very grateful to C.M. Stunich, Tate James and Xpresso Book Tours for the eARC so that I could read and review this book honestly.

#BlogTour: Shadow Spy by Tiffany Shand @TiffanyShand #Review

I love taking part in Tiffany Shand’s blog tour’s, her books are right up my alley and it’s an honour to help a UK based indie author who’s doing everything herself to make her books a success, books I have to say that are thoroughly enjoyable from cover to cover. Today I’m reviewing the second part of her latest trilogy which releases today, so be sure to head to Amazon and pick it up! Check the link below to see my review of the first book.

Book One: Shadow Walker

Description

After her partner, Drake disappears without a trace, Charlie McCray is determined to get him back with only telepathic dreams to aid her. The search leads her into the heart of Kyral, home to all Demonkind. With a gang leader determined to get ahold of the Srimtar, and enemies from Drake’s own past surrounding them, Charlie is running out of time.

Struggling with her own half-demon heritage and getting control of her powers, she meets the mysterious mist walkers, leaving her with more questions than answers. Charlie must go undercover, ascend to her powers, and get back the love of her life, all before it’s too late.

Review

Charlie knows what she wants now, she wants Drake, but he has disappeared. So Charlie and her team trek into the depths of the demon lands looking for Drake with a plan to rescue him from whatever has happened. She ends up meeting Drake’s long-estranged brother and as her new powers get stronger her path veers off in a direction she could never have anticipated.

Now, although Tiffany Shand’s books’ are on the short side, usually the three books in the series make up one long novel if read together, they are a joy to get your teeth into getting fully immersed in the world with enough characters to feel solidly a part of characters life while not being overwhelmed by too much happening.

I am adoring this series, the relationship between Drake and Charlie being so new and fragile while the life bond connection between them being so raw and adding a sense of inevitability between them.

For such a short book a lot happens in this one and I don’t want to say too much for fear of ruining the series for new readers, rest assured it’s well worth picking these books up and having a read.

Sending a huge thank you to Tiffany Shand for the review copy of this novel for my honest review.

#Review: Charmed by Mila Young @MilaYoungAuthor

Description

Aladdin and Arabian Nights. Three Dangerously Sexy Genies. A Deadly Sorcerer.

In the depths of the Sultan’s cave, tenacious street thief Azar steals a bunch of jewels and a brass lamp. Sure, stealing has no honor, but she’ll do whatever it takes to feed her brother, buy the medicine he needs and get them out of the slums of Utaara.

When Azar releases three gorgeous genies from the lamp, her first wish is to save her brother. Except the genies magic is weakened from being trapped for hundreds of years, and they must wait for their power to recover. A growing darkness in the kingdom is hunting Azar’s genies, desperate to claim their power for his own dark plans. Now Azar must fight to save her brother and the genies that have charmed their way into her heart.

Family, magic and love intertwine in an action packed romance with a ‘Happily Ever After.’

Charmed is a Haven Realm novel retelling of Aladdin.

Note: Each book in the Haven Realm series is a standalone book.

Review

The second standalone book in Mila Young’s Haven Realm book is a retelling of Aladdin with three really sexy genie’s…believe me I’m holding my tongue on the genie and lamp puns right now because I’ve got loads of them!

Azar is a street thief, a talented one who has had no choice but to turn to thievery to look after her and her sick brother in a harsh land where, as orphans, they were abused and used.

Now her brother needs a medicine that they can’t afford and she delves into the Sultan’s treasure trove where she escapes with more than she bargained for, a lamp which contains three genies. Three sexy, genies who are willing to help her…once their power regenerates.

As she grows closer to the genies, their bonds growing and becoming more permanent they fight to find the medicine that will save her brother and to ensure that the genies don’t become the possession of the Sultan.

A cameo appearance from Scarlet who is the starlet in book one was a wonderful addition and is a lovely way to tie the books together and keep the world as one.

For someone who doesn’t usually enjoy fairy tale retellings, I am eating these up! I think Mila Young may be converting me! Can’t wait until the next one comes out which I’ve already pre-ordered.

#Review: Clockwork City by Paul Crilley @paulcrilley @HodderBooks

This is book two in the Delphic Division series if you missed my review of book one, follow the link to read it now. Poison City.

Description

Cop. Drunkard. Low-grade magic user. My name is Gideon Tau, but most people just call me London. (Because that’s where I’m from. Get it? Hilarious.)

Three years ago, someone killed my daughter. I sacrificed everything (the human race included) to learn his name – and then had to allow that knowledge to be erased from my mind in order to save the world I’d doomed. Fantastic.

Now I have to start over from scratch, and who do I have to help me find my daughter’s killer? The reanimated corpse of my boss, a low-rent P.I. who’s heavily into conspiracy theories, and my alcoholic, foul-mouthed demonic sidekick dog.

Our journey will take us from Durban, South Africa to London, England, where we’ll have to contend with Fae gangs fighting for territory, the murder-suicide of two Delphic agents and the seven deadly sins.

Oh, and did I mention planning a heist to break into the most secure bank in Faerie? Because that’s on the agenda too. And if we fail? An ancient horned god will destroy London. (The city, not me. Although, to be fair, I don’t think I’ll survive either

Review

Gideon Tao, nicknamed London because that’s where he comes from is on a mission, he needs to know what happened to his daughter, to take down the monster, literally, responsible for taking her and countless other children.

This time his investigations take him and his spirit guide, the alcoholic smartarse dog, back to London where he has to investigate what happened to two of his Delphic Division agents who were murdered and he somehow gets caught up in a fae bank heist.

It was wonderful to be back in the world of Gideon and Dog. Their relationship lightens the mood when things get serious. Dog is hilarious and while he should be a great reassurance to Gideon he often opts for the easy way out as his first choice and is instead dragged into danger by Gideon.

Gideon hates his situation, he hates that he is running headlong into danger, but he needs answers and will die before giving up on his search, his desire to know what happened to his daughter means he makes some terrible decisions and acts like he is invincible at times. But he also gets shit done and somehow he manages to get answers, even if he does come across as desperate…well, he is, so…!

This is a superb book, as expected. I love how this ended, untied story arc’s that lead me to hope there will be a third book, I’m so not done with these characters yet.

#Review: The Needed by Nikki Hunter @NHuntAuthor

Description

When this realm was created, three races were formed. Humans, jin, and angels. That’s all that Camila knows for certain in her life.

After her time traveler’s dial gets stuck she is forced to live the same day on repeat until she is saved by four handsome strangers. They aren’t human or angel, and they definitely aren’t part of the jin.

Camila’s life is flipped upside down when she follows them into another realm. Is it possible that more creatures exist? Are they all as sexy as the four that need her now?

Recommended for ages 18 and up.

Review

Camila is a genie, a genie who has been stuck reliving the same day over and over until a group of four men unwittingly rescue her introducing her to a world she had no idea existed, because these men aren’t part of the world she knows, they are magical beings themselves and she feels more drawn to them than she normally is to the humans she is bonded to.

I loved Camila she is like a breath of fresh air, she’s got a wicked sense of humour and she owns her sexuality. Her ability to change her appearance is a great little touch and I can see a lot of fun being had with this ability as the story progresses. She stands up for herself but is still bound by the rules of her binding.

The men are an interesting bunch and I don’t think we even scratch the surface of what there is to know about them in this book. I’m looking forward to knowing more about them and what makes them tick as the series progresses.

Now, the problem with novellas which are part of a series is that they are never long enough, leaving you hanging just as things start getting good. This was the problem with The Needed. This whole book sets us up for a solid story, introducing characters, the background story, and what is going to be some hot as hell romance. Then bam! It just ends, just as you are in the flow, enjoying the story, wanting more.

So this has two effects on me. One, it drives me nuts because I want to know what the hell happens next and I’m pretty darn impatient so I run around in circles for a while wishing I could magic those pages that just aren’t going to magically appear. Two, I can’t wait to read the next book and find out what happens next.

Thanks to Nikki Hunter for gifting me this book so that I could read it and provide my honest review.

#Review: Spirited by C.M. Stunich @CMStunich

Description

Brynn of Haversey is a spirit whisperer—a person blessed with the ability to see and speak to the dead. In the country of Amerin, she’s one of a select few with magical gifts known as whisperers.

Every year, the Royal College accepts a small number of new students, all magically inclined, all whisperers. Competition is brutal and the classes, nearly impossible to pass for a half-breed angel with two left feet and a massive pair of black feathered wings.

Oh, and especially if she brings her six ghostly boyfriends with her to the academy (including the recently deceased crown prince, a master thief hanged for his crimes, and a former student of the Royal College). What kind of spirit whisperer is Brynn of Haversey if she can’t exorcise her own soulmates? But Brynn isn’t attending the most prestigious academy in the world to become a better exorcist—she’s searching for a way to bring her lovers back to life …

SPIRITED is a full-length (300+ page) reverse harem romance with a (slightly) clumsy but still kick-butt angel heroine and her six boyfriends who just happen to be ghosts. This book includes foul language, violence, and sexual situations.

Review

Oh I guess it had to happen one day, that a C.M. Stunich book would come along that just didn’t hit the spot for me. I mean, it was good, but it just didn’t bowl me over in the way I’ve come to expect from a Stunich novel.

Spirited features Brynn a spirit whisperer who is determined to make it into the Royal College, she’s also crazy mad in love with the Crown Prince, Air, her best friend since forever. As the book progresses, she meets various spirits who become attached to her, we don’t learn how this happens and she has no clue. All the spirits are male and they all fancy the britches off of her.

She’s set on a mission which if she succeeds would mean she could bring the spirits back to life. This mission had me questioning whether these men liked her for genuine reasons or because of what they could potentially get out of her (yeah sue me, I’m a cynic).

Despite my cynicsm I liked the guys, they had opposing personalities, that grated on each other in most cases. It made for funny conversations and some awkward moments. I also liked how only spirit whisperers could see the spirits unless they had a spirit charm meaning some odd moments happened when the spirits were around and those who couldn’t see them walked in on conversations/sat on them etc.

The fight scenes were wonderful, fluid and graphic. Very reminiscent of some of the epic fantasy novels I read and I thoroughly enjoyed them. There is a lot of death in this book, and honestly as a fan of grimdark I’m never going to complain at lots of death!

My issue though was with Brynn, I couldn’t warm to her, she’s head over heels in love with Air, this I have no issue with, and I’ve seen this trope in reverse harem before but the inclusion of additional men has worked really well regardles. But I just didn’t believe it here. She is so friggin’ obsessed with Air that I just didn’t buy it that she was attracted to anybody else. So when she did connect to other men in the group it just pissed me off. The irony being I preferred some of those guys but I just felt they could do better than Brynn.

I’m hoping that the story progressing in book two will help me get over this hurdle, I love Stunich’s writing and I’m always normally totally convinced by everything she wants us to believe in the story so I’m not going to give up on this story and have the next installment pre-ordered ready to dive back in.
