TBR Topple

Magesign - Alan BaxterThis month’s TBR Topple results are in and with a massive 64% of the vote the winner is Magesign by Alan Baxter, I’m super excited about this one, I really enjoyed the first book in this series when I read it many many moons ago and I’ve been caught up with other books and haven’t kept up with this series as I should have. I’ve popped Magesign onto my reading list, it’s a bit choc-full at the moment but I should get to it in the next few weeks so look out for a review early next month.

Fun fact for you Alan and I used to write for an online metal magazine along with Steffanie Holmes whose book I have reviewed this week (see reviews below)…it’s a small world eh?!

The poll will be back on May 1st with new books for you to choose from.

#Review: Make Me Want by Katee Robert @katee_robert @MillsandBoon #MillsandBoonDare

Description

“I want everything.”

She’s taking control. And it’s driving him wild!

Lucy Baudin’s ex dented her self-esteem and it’s time to regain control. In her job as a lawyer she’s bold, confident. But in the bedroom…she needs inspiration to reawaken her inner seductress. Asking her friend Gideon Novak for help seems wrong, yet so deliciously right!

Review

OMG! I don’t even know where to start with this book. Gideon is one of New York’s finest headhunters, Lucy is a top lawyer and an old friend of his, an old friend he was in the unfortunate position of having to give some really bad news to a few years earlier which left them estranged. So when Lucy asks him to help her with a headhunting project he is surprised especially when she tells him she wants him to help her find a husband.

She then springs on him she needs help embracing what to do having sex, having been told she wasn’t very good by her ex. As she and Gideon rediscover their friendship and newly discover a sexual chemistry which is off the charts the husband project becomes a thorn in both of their sides. But of course, stubbornness is the makings of a great story!

I loved both of these characters, Lucy is a strong confident woman but she is insecure when it comes to relationships and sex showing that you don’t have to be all things in all part of your life. People are multi-faceted and it’s OK to be insecure sometimes. Gideon is a wonderful character, he is a man who is a little bit cocky, he has clearly not always treated women well, but the way he feels about Lucy and always has felt about her shines through, and his discomfort with what she is asking of him is clear but he also wants to be there for her.

Katee Robert gives us a hot and heavy novel with characters you will fall in love with right from the beginning.

Thanks to Katee Robert and Mills & Book for the eARC of this via NetGalley so that I could review this.

Week in Review – 8 April 2018

I’ve been struggling with the increase to my Lithium dosage, the side effects are treating me badly, but I am battling through and doing the best I can.

I finished the amendments to version four of book one. These were based on feedback I received from a publisher after I had submitted it, so I am hoping once it’s through editing I will resubmit. If it is rejected again I will go ahead and self-publish. I’ve just started the first round of edits on book two after getting all my beta feedback in which is invaluable, thank you to all the betas who helped me with this. If there are others out there who are writing and would like some moral support I’ve started a facebook group for this purpose so come and join us.

Finally, next week will be a bit different around here. It’s my third anniversary as a book blogger so instead of book reviews and the normal order of service I have invited five of my fellow bloggers to write guest posts and join me for the week to celebrate. I will also be giving away three £10/$10 Amazon Gift Vouchers in a Rafflecopter Giveaway to say thank you to you all for supporting me for the past three years. This isn’t the biggest or best book blog out there but those of you who support me are amazing and loyal and I count you all as friends.

Week in Review – 4 February 2018

It’s been another rough week for me, I’m really struggling with my bipolar right now, not sleeping, hearing voices, and balancing on the edge of a cliff where if I fall I’m in full-blown mania. My meds have been adjusted and dealing with those side effects are just as bad as the illness itself. But I’m getting through and I just have to keep reminding myself that it will end.

I do have things I want to talk about but I just don’t have it in me right now so I’ll just go with the update and hopefully, by next week I will have more wits about me…

Book of the Month

January has come to an end so it’s time to pick a book of the month, and straight away I just can’t pick one, it’s been a stellar month for books…I see my top 10 at the end of the year being impossible!

The Bitter Twins is the latest from Jen Williams, book two in The Winnowing Flame Trilogy. This book was everything I expect from Williams and more. Firmly cementing her position at the top of my fantasy author tree. My review can be found here.

The Dragon’s Wing and The Tiger’s Ambush are books two and three in the Kit Davenport series by Tate James and I’m classing them as a two for one here. While this is pegged as a reverse harem series, the paranormal/urban fantasy elements are absolutely fantastic and have me completely hooked. Anybody who loves paranormal/urban fantasy and is curious about reverse harem this is the series to start with because it is just perfectly executed and for me, the fantasy elements are far more prominent, although the romance is hot and heavy when it gets going.

Blunt Force Magic by Lawrence Davis is a surprise entry, the author had approached another blogger who reviews crime and she had tagged me and a couple of other fantasy loving bloggers. I was hooked by the description so despite not wanting to take on new books right now I said I would review it and I have no regrets, it was gripping, funny, and had some of the best battle scenes I’ve read in a while. Just so friggin good. Here is my review.
