Week in Review – 24 September 2017

I don’t even have words for this week. I finally went to the doctor about this depression which has been weighing me down. We put a plan in place to help me deal with it above and beyond what I was already doing and then I went on to have one of the busiest and most stressful weeks in living memory!

On Wednesday I was at City Hall for my health walk leader training, I love City Hall it’s a beautiful building, I tried sneaking some photo’s but it wasn’t appropriate. I now just have to lead a couple of walks supervised and then I can be let loose…this is assuming the political side of me being a walk leader gets sorted, but that’s a whole other blog post!

I can’t remember if I mentioned in my volunteering role we’ve been putting together a big campaign, and prepping for the charities 30th anniversary, well this week saw us launch the campaign with the help of the rather awesome Jonny Benjamin and the anniversary party on Friday. Honestly I haven’t worked this hard since I was working full time.

On Thursday I received a call to ask if I minded doing a radio interview on Friday morning to talk about the social media campaign and my involvement with the charity. So off I trotted arriving at the BBC at 7:30am Friday morning to be on air for 8am, Jonny very kindly joined from London as well. If you want to listen the audio will be online for the next month. My interview is at 1:36:04 for 10 mins you can skip it along to when it starts. Click Here.

The party went well and the campaign was introduced, a film we have been working on was previewed and went down really well (I will share this with you guys once it goes public). I was introduced to members of the board which was completely surreal like I’d been sucked into the inner sanctum, being a volunteer you don’t normally get to meet these people. I also caught up with lots of people I know from my time in various areas of the service the charity provides which was nice.

Friday topped out with me going to the theatre to see The Addams Family musical, but I was so tired I spent most of it dozing and didn’t take it in too well. It was such a long day and I didn’t get home until almost 1am, having left the house at 6:30am!

I haven’t done an awful lot by way of writing this week, only about three chapters worked on although I did manage to get a new chapter I wanted to include written so that’s something. I’m hoping to work on more next week and finish it off so it can go to my lovely beta readers before the end of the week.

The TBR Topple winner for this month has been chosen, thanks to everyone who voted. There were some great books in the mix this month and some I was really keen on reading. The winner was one of those so I’m really pleased to pick it up next week, Firestorm by Rachel Caine. A new mix of options will go up at the beginning of October.

Right, here is my bookish update for this week!

Description

Five Aston has known Rory Shrike for as long as he can remember. He played with her in the sandbox. He went to every damn horse show just to be supportive. He helped her with her French, walked her home from school, and faked his test scores just to stay with her a little longer and not be sent off to college early.
But eventually he had to move on.
And so did she.
Never has a second chance meant so much to a boy who loves a girl.

A standalone book that is also a spin-off of the Rook & Ronin Series and prequel to the Mister Series. You can read it first, you can read it last. It doesn’t really matter because it’s f*cking Five.

“You want a kiss?”

“Mmmhmm,” I say, closing my eyes as I picture it. God, I’ve dreamed of this moment for ages. “I really need one, Five.”

His mouth touches my earlobe. Lips caress the soft skin of my neck. “Like this?” he asks.

“Yes,” I practically moan. “Just… like… that.”

“Do you want more, Princess?” he asks, his voice low now. Growly. Filled with so much promise.

“More, please,” I say, in my sweetest princess voice.

“Then promise me, baby. Just say those two words. ‘I promise.’ And as soon as you do that, I’ll give you everything you want. OK?”

“Five,” I moan. “Just—”

His hands come up suddenly. He cups my face, stares into my eyes with the most sincere expression I’ve ever seen on him. And underneath that sincerity, I see… fear. “Promise me.”

“Five,” I say, unable to stop staring back. This is everything. Everything I’ve always dreamed of. Five pressing me up against a wall. Me, the only thing on his mind. Except I’m not the only thing on his mind, am I? No. Those creeps from the past are back. That’s why he’s here. And even though I’d normally not give in so easy, I know this is not a game. So I say, “I promise. Now stop talking, you stupid genius, and kiss me already.”

He smiles. Leans in. I close my eyes, ready for it. Finally gonna get what I want.

But then he moves his mouth to my ear and nibbles on my lobe. “Good girl,” he coos. “But I’m not sure I believe you, Princess. I can feel those wheels turning inside your head. They’re grinding hard.” He presses his hard cock against my hip when he says that last part. “So I’m gonna hold off on that kiss until I get back tonight. And if you’ve been good, and if you’ve held up your end of the—”

“What?” I say, pushing him back. “You will do no such thing, Five Aston! I want a fucking kiss and I want one right now! I’ve waited six years for this, and denying me is practically emotional abuse. Now stop fucking around and kiss me, goddammit!”

“Who’s the boss of you, Rory?”

I huff out some air. “Me.”

He smiles. It’s a big, genuine, I’m-gonna-teach-you-who’s-boss smile. “Wrong answer.”

Week in Review – 19 March 2017

This has been a tough week, it started with some news which blew the stuffing out of me and I’ve spent a lot, probably too much time processing. It also meant that I have not been in the right frame of mind to read and so my reading has slowed dramatically.

I also realised that I’ve been really organised with my blog planning but had forgotten to keep time scheduled for my non-tour reviews so I have a backlog of books to review! I’ve now rectified this moving forward so my reviews should pick up over the coming weeks. Honestly I’m pretty sure I leave my brain in bed most days.

It was my Mum’s birthday this week, most of her Amazon wishlist is Kindle books and I’m again left wondering why Amazon in the UK hasn’t implemented Kindle book gifting like they have in the US? It’s utterly annoying…yes I said utterly. I’ve emailed them about it numerous times but they just ignore me.

I think most of my medication issues are now sorted and I’m starting to feel more human again now, at least until the bipolar slaps in the face again! We had a few hiccoughs this week and I managed to do almost 72 hours with no sleep at all which only feeds the mania but I’m through it and starting to get back into a pattern now.

I also got a new phone this week, it’s my first new phone in six years! A bit of a shock to the system, I used to get a new phone every year so I don’t know what’s come over me going so long! It’s taking a bit of getting used to, I keep pressing things I’m not supposed to, so apologies if I do weird things in comments on your blogs but that will be why!

I went to see Gojira play in Bristol last night, I know most of you are going Goji-what?! They are a French heavy metal band. I absolutely love them, very melodic, they are also eco and political-warriors and it all comes out in their music so very on my wavelength. I saw them play at Bloodstock festival last year which was actually the first time I had seen them live despite buying their music for years and they blew the roof of the place (OK there was no roof it was an outdoor festival but you get the idea!).

So onto this week’s book activity!

Description

#SupervillainsFallInLove
Everyone wants justice.
That’s what Assistant DA, Lulu Lightly, tells me. “Cathedral City needs you to set things right,” she says. “To rid this place of corruption, once and for all.”
I’d like to rid Lulu Lightly of her clothes. And maybe her moral superiority. But mostly her clothes.
“I want you to fight the good fight with me,” she says.
Hell, yeah. I’m always up for a fight.
“We should stand up and be the voice of the people,” she says.
Sure, I hear voices. Sometimes I even listen to them.
“Figure out what’s good for the City and put it first,” she says.
Oh, honey… what’s good for the City is bad for the people. Trust me, I know. I’m Case Reider—insane Alpha, nefarious inventor, and I understand this town better than anyone.
Cathedral City needs me all right. Just not the way you think.
I’m not the justice you’re looking for, Lulu Lightly.
I’m still the same villain you left behind.
Only now… there’s something very, very wrong with me.

Excerpt

He stares at me. I barely recognize him. He’s so much older, broader, more intent. One gloved hand flies to my throat, the other covers my mouth as he pushes me back into the shadows of the thick stone columns that hold the arch over our heads. We round the corner, backing me into the secret spot I found for us so many years ago at the end of that one perfect night.

I’m frightened for a moment. Caught up in the accusations against him. In the law, and my duty, and my job.

But the heat of his hands and the urgency in his push are enough to keep me calm. Make me want him. Render me powerless to refuse him.

Did I ever doubt that I’d give in?

“Where did you go?” he asks, once we’re hidden from view, the only prying eyes those of the iconic statue set into the stone wall.

“Away,” I say simply.

“You’re back now?” he asks. Eyes almost pleading.

“I’m back now.”

He sits on the stone bench and it’s like… it’s like we’re kids again. At the end of that one night at the ball. But this time we are deliberate. Older. More experienced, but also more cynical.

My eyes never leave his as I hike up my dress, straddle his thighs, and nestle myself into his lap.

He hugs me then. Wraps his arms completely around my waist, pulling me in so close, I almost gasp for air.
