Description

Hang on to your Stetsons, because you’re in for another wild ride! COWBOY UP by New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Harper Sloan is a passionate and breathless romance about the sparks that ignite when a cautious cowboy and a once-scorned woman open up to each other in the third installment of the Coming Home series.

As the eldest Davis, Clayton has always tried to lead by example. He takes his job as head of the family businesses seriously, making sure the farm and auto shop are running smoothly—along with keeping an eye on his brother and sister. For him, there’s a time and place to let go of the control he holds with an iron grip. And with the way he grew up, coupled with disastrous end to his last relationship, he’s just fine with his quiet, solitary life.

Most of the time.

What he hadn’t counted on was cute, quirky, shy bookstore owner, Caroline Michaels. She’s the proverbial woman next door—well, the next town over, that is. Caroline hasn’t lived an easy life, but after escaping an abusive ex, she’s finally living it for herself. The last thing she ever expected was a one-night stand with Clay Davis, a night she can’t stop thinking about.

So when she falls on hard times and Clay comes out of nowhere to her rescue, she realizes just how impossible it’ll be to stay away from him. Now all she has to do is convince him to live a little…

Will Clay be able to give up the reins and finally settle down? And, more importantly, will Caroline muster enough courage to lasso him up?

COWBOY UP is the third go-round in this Texas-set series which has everything readers could want in truly authentic Western romance novels filled with sizzle, heart…and plenty of horses and cowboy boots!

Review

It’s safe to say that I’ve loved this series with a passion, the Davis siblings have truly got under my skin and this final installment with the eldest of the siblings Clay was no exception, especially given Caroline the woman who wins his heart is a bookstore owner, how wonderfully perfect for all of us bibliophiles out there.

Caroline has had a tough past, but she doesn’t think a one night stand with her dark cowboy will lead to anything more, except that dark cowboy turns out to be her childhood crush Clay Davis and he is set on winning her mind, body, and soul.

In the previous books we see Clay as the strong, supportive older brother and it was wonderful to see this softer more vulnerable side of him in this book. This side of him that lets down his guard, loves unconditionally and is the whole man, not just the brother.

I loved this book, I loved their story, and seeing more of the other siblings. I just wish that the end hadn’t been tied up quite the way it had been, I prefer more ambiguity so that my imagination can be left to play.

Sending a huge thanks to Harper Sloan, and Pocket Books for the eARC via Netgalley so that I could read and honestly review this novel.

#BlogTour: Into the Heat by Tamara Lush @tamaralush @InkSlingerPR #Excerpt

Welcome to day one of the Into the Heat blog tour from InkSlinger PR. Today I have an excerpt from this book for you and having recently read book one in this series I can assure you this will be a real treat!

Description

A veteran and his first love meet again. Can they help each other heal on the Florida beach?

Leo Villeneuve joined the Marines and shipped off to Afghanistan because that’s what the men in his family do. And, if he’s honest, he was running from the family upheaval caused by his teen summer love’s pregnancy scare. Hard to say who was angrier, his father or her mother. He spent months in an earthly hell of heat, dust and battle before being wounded both physically and emotionally.

Now the Marine is back on Palmira Island to open a new bakery for his family’s business. But even if his first love is still here, Leo’s not sure she’ll want anything to do with a veteran suffering from PTSD so bad that he walks in his sleep — and possibly worse. If only he could remember the night the local recruiting office burned down … and whether he had anything to do with it.

Jessica Clarke was the girl left behind when her young lover was whisked away by his wealthy family. She put her life back together, and helped run her mom’s bed-and-breakfast on Palmira Island. She still loves the inn, but now she must make it a success on her own, and against opposition from her sister, who wants to sell. Still reeling from their mother’s death, Jess discovered her fiancé was cheating on her.

And just when Jess thinks her life can’t get any worse, Leo is back on Palmira Island. An older, more manly, more secretive Leo. The flame between them burns brighter than ever, but why does Leo coax her close, only to pull away? And will he still want her when he learns her secret anguish?

Into The Heat - Tour Banner

Excerpt

Jessica had sworn off men since breaking up with her jerk of an ex, but that didn’t prevent her from admiring a beautiful thing from afar.

Hm. He was right next to where she’d be sculpting in the sand.

She moved lightly, never taking her eyes off the guy. His skin was a warm bronze hue and his muscular thighs had sunk into the sand. He wore only blue surf shorts, and while she had grown up on the beach, it was rare that such a stunning specimen of manhood graced the sleepy Palmira shores. If only she could remain invisible while sculpting her creation, free to admire this guy’s beauty without having to make small talk, then life would be perfect.

She stopped swinging her bucket, so the tools wouldn’t make a sound.

A sketchbook sat in front of the guy on the sand, and he held a pencil in one large, masculine hand, drawing with broad strokes. Jessica took a few more steps toward her sand pile, which also conveniently allowed her to get a better look at the guy’s profile. What she saw turned her grin into an open- mouthed gape.

No. It can’t be.

Leo Villeneuve? Inhaling a long, thin breath, she narrowed her eyes. Was it possible?

Her first kiss.

Her first love.

Her first heartbreak.

She took off her sunglasses. Was it really him? Yep, it was.

She could tell by the shape of his long, straight nose. And by the way his full lips pushed out slightly as he concentrated on the sketchbook. Those lips had kissed her, and the memory of all the places they’d touched—her neck, her nipples, in between her legs—made her shiver in the hot sun as if a single ice cube had been dropped down the back of her shirt.

“Jess, you’re my first. And I’m your first and I don’t want there ever to be anyone else.”

#BlogTour: The Unlikeable Demon Hunter by Deborah Wilde @wildeauthor @InkSlingerPR #Review #Giveaway

Hey Guys, thanks for stopping by for Deborah Wilde’s blog tour for The Unlikeable Demon Hunter, you can catch my review below along with a giveaway.

Description

Bridesmaids meets Buffy with a dash of the seven deadly sins.

The age-old story of what happens when a foul-mouthed, romance impaired heroine with no edit button and a predilection for hot sex is faced with her worst nightmare–a purpose.

Ari Katz is intelligent, driven, and will make an excellent demon hunter once initiated into the Brotherhood of David. However, this book is about his twin Nava: a smart-ass, self-cultivated hot mess, who is thrilled her brother is stuck with all the chosen one crap.

When Nava half-drunkenly interrupts Ari’s induction ceremony, she expects to be chastised. What she doesn’t expect is to take her brother’s place among the–until now–all-male demon hunters. Even worse? Her infuriating leader is former rock star Rohan Mitra.

Too bad Rohan’s exactly what Nava’s always wanted: the perfect bad boy fling with no strings attached, because he may also be the one to bring down her carefully erected emotional shields. That’s as dangerous as all the evil fiends vying for the bragging rights of killing the only female ever chosen for Demon Club.

Odds of survival: eh.

Odds of having a very good time with Rohan before she bites it: much better.

The Unlikeable Demon Hunter - Tour Banner

Review

When Nava accidentally is indoctrinated into the Brotherhood of David, a secret Jewish demon-hunting organisation after interrupting her twin-Brother Ari’s ceremony, quite literally stealing the job he’s trained his entire life for, she gets thrown in the deep end in more ways than one. As the first woman to ever become a ‘brother’, and to have not received the lifelong training that all brothers received Nava is at a huge disadvantage. Then her boss slash protector slash trainer is Rohan, ex rock star now super stellar demon hunter and hot stuff.

So, I really enjoyed this book, it was a bit of a slow starter for me, I took a while to warm to the story and the characters but once I did I couldn’t put the book down and got through it in record time. I loved that this book was focused around a Jewish secret organisation, I think this may be the first time I’ve read a book in this genre with a Jewish slant (as someone with no religious ties I do enjoy it when books go in different directions like this!)

Nava is a fantastic character, she’s ballsy and sexual. A woman who knows who she is and she’s comfortable with that. I love this woman and that Deborah Wilde wasn’t afraid to create a female character like this. She goes into this all-male organisation and doesn’t let anybody take her down without a fight. I know she’s supposed to be unlikeable and I could see all the reasons why, but those things only warmed her to me more. I like strong characters and Nava is nothing if she isn’t strong.

Ari her brother is a character I’d like to have seen more of, he is dealing with having the thing he’s worked his entire life for taken away, and by his Sister of all people. He’s also struggling with his feelings for one of the brothers which he’s very much in denial about, or at least when it comes to talking to Nava about them!

Rohan is a great love interest, I enjoyed his dynamic with Nava and his own strengths. I think there is a lot to learn about him still and am hoping as the series continues more will be revealed as with other characters.

There are some great fight scenes in this novel, Deborah Wilde has come up with some fantastic demon’s and with them comes some original fights.

Overall, this was an original entry into the genre, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and am looking forward to reading the next book in the series to see what Nava gets up to next!

Sending a huge thanks to Deborah Wilde and InkSlinger PR for the eARC so that I could honestly review this book.

Description

In Lost Rider, the first Western romance in New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Harper Sloan’s Coming Home series, an injured rodeo star encounters an old flame but will she be just what he needs to get back in the saddle?

Maverick Austin Davis is forced to return home after a ten-year career as a rodeo star. After one too many head injuries, he’s off the circuit and in the horse farming business, something he’s never taken much of a shine to, but now that it’s his late father’s legacy, familial duty calls. How will Maverick find his way after the only dream he ever had for himself is over?

Enter Leighton Elizabeth James, an ugly duckling turned beauty from Maverick’s childhood—his younger sister’s best friend, to be exact, and someone whose heart he stomped all over when she confessed her crush to him ten years back. Now Leighton is back in Maverick’s life, no longer the insecure, love-stricken teen—and Maverick can’t help but take notice. Sparks fly between them, but will Leighton be able to open her heart to the one man who broke it all those years ago?

Written in the vein of Diana Palmer and Lindsay McKenna, this Texas-set series is filled with sizzle, heart, and plenty of cowboys!

Review

Maverick Davis, is the moody cowboy, an injury has killed his career in the rodeo and he’s been drowning his sorrows at the bottom of a bottle. Now his Father who he hated has died he is returning home to see his siblings and work out what life is supposed to look like moving forward.

Leighton James, was the awkward girl who grew up on the ranch next door to the Davis clan. She is Maverick’s younger sister’s best friend almost since birth, and his older brother has taken her under his wing since the death of her parents. She was also crazy in love with Maverick when they were teenagers and he was, to put it politely, an asshole about the whole situation.

Now that he is back, Leighton doesn’t feel very forgiving and he is feeling very guilty and so begins a game of cat and mouse although at times I’m not sure who was playing which part.

I loved the way that Harper made the dynamic in this book slightly different, it didn’t feel whimsical which these novels sometimes can. There was an existing and deep connection but there were deep-rooted trust issues which this couple had to work out and try to understand if there was something which could overcome those issues or not.

The determination Maverick shows once he sets his mind to knowing what he wants, once he gets past his fear and admits how he feels is moving and Leighton quite understandably is cautious, although at times she really lets her guard down only to then rush it back up again in fear of getting hurt.

I loved that Leighton is a strong independent businesswoman. She’s looked after herself, she doesn’t need anybody else, but she knows that she wants her people around. She has a great support system and she loves the people she has in her life.

Maverick is as stubborn as a mule, he struggles to see what’s in front of his eyes in most areas of his life and is quite lost (hence the book title!). He’s very much got used to being alone but has completely isolated himself emotionally not just physically. Through the book we see him start to break down that isolation and open himself up not just to Leighton but his family aswell.

This was a really enjoyable book, I’m really looking forward to reading more in the series and seeing how other characters are developed further, I really enjoyed reading about all of the Davis clan so I’m hoping this series will continue to focus on these characters.

Sending a huge thanks to Harper Sloan, Pocket Books and InkSlinger PR for the eARC so that I could read and honestly review this novel.

#BlogTour: Fractured Silence by Carrie Ann Ryan @CarrieAnnRyan @InkSlingerPR #Excerpt

Today I’m pleased to be part of the blog tour for Carrie Ann Ryan’s Fractured Silence, the fifth book in her Talon Pack series. This tour is organised by InkSlinger PR. Be sure to check out the excerpt I have for you today. If you haven’t read the earlier books in the series and would like to, see the links below, although these can all be read as standalone so you can jump straight in with Fractured Silence: 😉

Description

The Talon Pack continues with a dark secret that could shatter the future of the Packs, or save them all.

Parker Jamenson is the son of three Packs, the sole mediator between every Pack in the United States and Europe, and…he’s dying. He knows he doesn’t have much left in him and is in desperate need of a mate. But with the new and unyielding changes thanks to the Moon Goddess, he might not have as much time as he thinks.

Brandon Brentwood is the Omega of the Talon Pack and the youngest of his family. He’s not only one of the famed triplets; he’s also the most secretive. There’s a good reason for that, however, and when a shocking revelation meshes the past and present in a very unexpected way, he’ll look to not only Parker but also a disgraced human to save them all.

Avery Montag knows she’s the daughter of a traitor and doesn’t have much to give the wolves in the way of atonement. But she’ll do everything she can to pay for her father’s sins and find a way to end the war between the humans and the wolves.

When the three turn to each other in a time of unrest and for vastly different reasons, temptation burns and seduction beckons. Only, the past, present, and future are never as solid as they seem, and the path the trio thought to travel may just vanish before they’re ready.

Excerpt

Avery studied her hands, and Brandon did the only thing he could at that moment— he reached out and put one of his hands on hers. The connection was immediate, warmth and a shocking intensity he couldn’t quite name shooting through him. Avery’s gaze flashed to his before going to Parker as the other man gripped her other hand.

Brandon swallowed hard, the circuit the three of them made almost overwhelming.

Yet his wolf refused to tell him if they were potential mates. How could this be? He’d never felt anything like this, and yet he was in the dark.

Something had happened to the mating bonds, and he needed to figure out what that was. But before he did, he needed to ensure that Avery was okay.

“The full moon is in two days,” Brandon said softly, bringing Avery’s gaze back to his. He could find peace in those eyes, he knew, if he only looked long enough— if she only gave him enough time.

“You’ll change then,” Parker added. “There’s no way around it. Are you ready for that?”

She met both of their gazes. “I don’t have a choice, do I?”

Brandon frowned. “You don’t.” Anger boiled in his veins once more. “Not anymore. A wolf not of ours made that choice for you, and we manifested it into being so you would breathe again.”

Avery looked down at their clasped hands, concentration on the parts of her face he could see. “I said I would help you… help your people, your Packs. Now, I guess I will help myself, as well.”

At her words, Brandon’s wolf howled in respect, and his gaze shot up to meet Parker’s. The other man’s eyes glowed gold, and their wolves reached out as if needing one another for a purpose Brandon had yet to name.

This woman, this wolf to-be, was so damned strong. Stronger than the two others in this room, and he had a feeling she didn’t even know it. No matter what happened next, what happened between the three of them, he knew Avery would go on to do great things. She was Pack now, one of them.

She was wolf.

And a small part of him whispered that one day soon… she might be his.

He’s found her at last…

Cain Killion knows himself to be a damaged man. His only redeeming quality? The extrasensory connection to blood that he uses to catch killers. His latest case takes a macabre turn when he discovers a familiar and haunting symbol linking the crime to his horrific past—and the one woman who might understand what it means.

Only to lose her to a nightmare

Mercy Ledger is brave, resilient, beautiful—and in terrible danger. The moment Cain finds her the line between good and evil blurs and the only thing clear to them is that they belong together. Love is the antidote for blood—but is their bond strong enough to overcome the madness that stalks them?

Review

There is much about Saving Mercy which is original and makes it stand out from other paranormal romance novels. The first being there isn’t a vampire or werewolf in sight. The next being this is told mainly from Cain’s point of view, meaning we gain a deeper connection with the male character than we necessarily normally would and he is a character who has been through the nine circles of hell and all before he was old enough to drive.

There is a unique depth to Cain that comes not just with his pain but with his compassion and need to do right. We don’t learn everything about him even by the end of the book I felt and I think that’s a good thing leaving more to learn in future novels and leaving plenty of room for layers to be peeled back as his story develops as it has significantly in this novel.

Mercy, was a victim of Cain’s father, a notorious serial killer, the only one to survive and now Cain is on a mission to save her from somebody else determined to harm her. Mercy is strong and determined. She has used her experiences with Cain’s father as a way to garner inner strength and will and she doesn’t want to let anyone get past her walls of steel. But she feels an affinity with Cain and knows she can trust him.

And so onto the next thing that is different for this genre, the powers these two character hold, these were wholly original and unique. I’ve never read a book where the characters held powers like these two had. And despite these characters having powers, they weren’t powers that were particularly useful in a dangerous situation, they weren’t going to necessarily save their lives. Being human, using their senses, and just being sensible in general like any normal person was all that would help them.

Overall, this is a well thought-out, executed and thoroughly enjoyable novel.

Sending a huge thanks to Abbie Roads and InkSlinger PR for the eARC so that I could read and honestly review this novel.

Saving Mercy - Blitz Banner

Excerpt

“Do you remember where you are?”

“Ward B of The Center of Balance and Wellness. The name doesn’t fit. It should be called The Center of Indifference. No one here cares—except for Liz. You know Liz?” He opened his mouth to answer, but she bulldozed over him, her words coming out in a rush. “She looks like Nurse Ratchet, but her personality is all Mary Poppins. She always lets me stay up past lights-out since it’s the only solitude to be had in the whole place. Once, she snuck a cupcake in on my birthday. Now isn’t that sweet? She—” The words were speeding out of her mouth.

Not that he was complaining. He preferred her hyped-up over out-of-it, but she might backslide if she didn’t stay somewhat calm. “Whoa whoa whoa. Slow down. Take a breath. We’ve got all the time in the world here.” Had to be the meds or lack of meds—some strange part of the withdrawals—causing her diarrhea of the mouth.

She grabbed in one good breath, then tossed off again. “You know there aren’t many people to talk to in here.” She turned her voice down to a whisper. “Everyone’s crazy. I mean really crazy. Certifiable. It’s hard to carry on a rational conversation with someone who keeps talking to the demon that lives in their ankle. You ever have that happen? Where you’re talking to someone and all of sudden they lift their foot up in front of their face and start having a conversation with it? It’s a bit off putting, if you know what I mean.”

Her expression was full on seriousness, and he probably shouldn’t laugh—definitely he shouldn’t—but couldn’t help it.

A smile—no, it wasn’t quite a smile—tipped the corners of her mouth, giving her a look that said she was thinking about something pleasing.

“We’ve hit a new phase of your withdrawals. Speed talking.”

“Oh, my. Your voice. Wow. It reminds me of dark chocolate, a hot bath, and sex and—”

“Apparently your mental filter is malfunctioning.”

“—sweaty, dirty, hard fucking.”

Holy Christ. Just the words sex, sweaty, and dirty had his dick going all skyscraper inside his jeans, but when she said hard fucking—he blacked out for a moment. When his mind came back online it decided to flash him images of what sweaty, dirty, hard fucking would look like with her. Her nipples brushing against his chest as he rammed into her with a pace and depth and exuberance he’d never experienced.

He needed to change the subject, but couldn’t remember how to get his mouth to form words. He might’ve swallowed his damned tongue.

“Why do you suppose your voice sounds like sex on a summer day? It’s because I’m horny. I haven’t had sex in five years. That’s a long time you know. I have needs.”

He finally figured out how to flap his lips, while making sound to form actual words. Maybe he’d had a stroke. “Jesus Christ woman.” The words exploded out of him. “You’ve got to stop talking about sex.” He scrubbed his hand over his eyes, trying to wipe out the mental images that still played. “You’re speaking every single thought that floats into your mind. No goddamned censor. It’s gotta be the meds or the shock treatments causing it. Something.”

Her bottom lip pushed out in an utterly inappropriate—but adorably kissable—pout. “I don’t see anything wrong with talking about how I feel. Maybe that’s why I can’t get out of this place. I won’t open up. Won’t let Dr. Payne-in-my-ass into my mind. Maybe if I—”

“Christ on a crapper. You’ve got to stop for a moment.” She opened her mouth to argue—he cut her off. “I need you to listen for thirty seconds. A minute tops. Then you can talk about sex, Dr. Payne, and your feelings all you want.”

“You can’t go putting sex, Dr. Payne, and my feelings in the same sentence. Wrong. So wrong.”

“Won’t argue about that. But I need you to keep your lips closed.”

Pain pinched her features as she lifted her hands, placing them over her mouth. It should have been a comical gesture, but all he could see was her hurting. It had been five days since Dr. Payne had injured her and the fact that her body still suffered scraped his justice bone. If he ever got the guy alone, he just might uncage that part of himself that thirsted for blood.

He cleared his throat and emptied his mind of those thoughts. “There’s some things you need to know right now. Important things. Like you’re not at The Center. You’re safe in a cabin in Southern Ohio. You’ve been withdrawing from the meds for the past two days. Your short term memory is shit from the shock treatments. I’ve been taking care of you the whole time.” He spoke the sentences as if there were a list he’d memorized—probably because he’d said the same thing so many times before. “That’s why we keep having this same conversation and you can’t remember it.”

She lifted her hands off her mouth. “Cool. That works for me. Never liked that place.”

Ooo…kkaayy… She obviously wasn’t fully grasping reality. “You’re not going to remember any of this are you?”
