#Review: Apollo is Mine by Mila Young @MilaYoungAuthor

Description

I’m a warrior. Cursed to fight monsters. Sworn to act as Zeus’ sword to protect mankind.

But I’d give it all up for one last kiss with the god who stole my heart…Apollo.
I never wanted to carry my family’s legacy. But blood ties cannot be broken, and I’ll keep the promise I made my father on his dying bed. Legendary monsters hunt in city streets of Chicago, and my job was to take down the worst.
I’ve trained with Heracles.
Been blessed with super human powers.
What I’ve never done is fallen in love–until Apollo crossed my path. But he isn’t the only god to catch my attention. Hades is here too, and with him comes a darkness that leaves behind a trail of human bodies. Heracles and my gut instinct urges me to destroy this creature, but each step brings me closer to the truth…
Darkness cannot win…or the Earth will tumble into chaos and I’ll lose the god I’ve come to love…Apollo is mine.

Apollo is Mine is book 1 in the Harem of the Gods reverse harem series.

Content Warning: Steamy love scenes, dominating alphas who protect their female, and plenty of sexy Greek gods who will leave you breathless.

Review

Elyse is tasked with keeping humanity alive. Granted special warrior skills by Zeus and given God level warrior training to prepare her for her nemesis she should have life all in hand but she’s actually kind of a mess having trouble balancing her human life vs her super hero life.

Then to make matters worse these Gods start dropping into her life and she just needs them like instinct and this isn’t good for her in any way, not when she thinks she is supposed to be defeating one of them.

As always Mila Young’s writing is gripping and she presents you with characters that you just want to know more about making you turn the page over and over again.

I’m obsessed with Greek mythology and I loved how this played into this book and the characters were given a fresh outlook and new personalities it was refreshing and thoroughly enjoyable.

I can’t wait for book two in this series.

Thanks to Mila Young for the eARC so that I could read and honestly review this book.

#Review: Ride with the SEAL by Leslie North @leslienorthbook

Description

When ex-SEAL Camden Thursday enters the garage at two in the morning, he’s intent on grand theft auto. Instead he’s confronted with more than a hot car — there’s a sexy mechanic too. His high school crush, wrench in hand, projects a “Dangerous Curves Ahead” warning far more tempting than any joy ride, but Camden isn’t here to try the road less traveled. He’s here to jack a car and prove he can do more than manipulate computer code for the black ops service he works for: Norse Security. So while Camden is looking to get physical on this job, he was hoping for someone to punch, not someone to plunder…

Everly Knight is the baddest bad girl in town. As the daughter of a mobster and a name in the auto industry for hot cars, she could rest on her laurels and let her reputation proceed her. However, Everly has a deep dark secret: she wants nothing more than a shiny, new, legal garage all of her own. She’s just a few thousand away from cashing in and figures that one last illegal car theft could finance her legal dreams. That is until the geek from her past shows up as a hunky hero; letting Everly see that it’s possible to become more than just a tough girl.

Camden may be all muscle, but it’s Everly who can stall the entire operation. She holds him hostage and offers an ultimatum: Take her on the ride or find himself a sitting duck for the mob. It’s not a hard choice when the bombshell revs his engine. But with warring goals and secret missions, they’ll find themselves fighting for their futures and racing toward a love they never saw coming.

Review

I was originally supposed to review this for the blog tour, then life happened and I couldn’t take part so my apologies to the author for the delayed review on this one.

Cam is a man on a mission, determined to prove himself as more than just the team geek to the rest of his security company all he has to do is steal a high-tech car. This would be simple except for Everley, his high school crush and now mechanic who is all over the car with an agenda of her own and she’s not letting Cam anywhere near it.

When the bad guys get close the two of them need to work together but who wins in this scenario, who can be trusted and what’s with all the sexual tension?

I loved how this novella was written, short snappy and to the point with lots of danger forcing these two to make quick decisions despite all this the romance was still somehow slow burn which is quite unusual for a novella. I’m quite happy with fast steamy romance but this slow burn worked well and felt quite natural.

The banter between these characters is great, there is so much resistance from them both for various reasons and a lot of it comes out in sarcastic banter which works really well.

This was an easy and enjoyable read, highly recommended.

Many thanks to Leslie North for the eARC so that I could read and review this book honestly.

Crossing The Line - Tour Banner

Review

Hunter is a paid killer, cold, meticulous with attention to detail that is unmistakable. Addy is the girl next door, happy, carefree, and she has the attention of the killer, just not as his prey…at least not the kind of prey you would expect. Then she witnesses a murder and her life spirals out of control.

Nikki Rose has offered a debut novel full of sneaky twists and plot developments that leave you with no idea where this book is going to end up.

Hunter and Addy are the most unlikely yet compatible couple I’ve read in a long time. Part of me hated both of them yet I couldn’t help but want them to come together. I found Addy’s form of Stockholm Syndrome a tad annoying and yet I was rooting for her to find love (I never claimed to make sense). While I spent most of the time I was reading Hunter convinced there was more to him than we were being allowed to see I just couldn’t figure out what it was.

This is a strong debut novel with some epic twists that will blow your socks off and leave you wanting more from this promising author.

I’m very grateful to Nikki Rose for the eARC so that I could read and review this book honestly.

About Nikki Rose

Nikki Rose - Author Image

For as long as she can remember, Nikki Rose has enjoyed writing stories. For years, writing was just a hobby for this South Carolina native. It was a way to let out all the stories floating around in her head. After one of those stories took on a mind of its own, outgrowing even the parameters of a single book, Rose knew she had to pursue her dream.

Married to her high school sweetheart and best friend, Rose feels she is truly living out a romance story of her very own. As a stay at home mom of two, she is blessed with the time needed to work on her writing career full-time while her kids are at school or in the wee hours while normal people sleep. She considers herself a music obsessed chocoholic and hopeless romantic who enjoys weaving romance stories with a healthy dose of mystery and suspense.

#Review: The Wind Singer by William Nicholson @WB_Nicholson

Description

“I hate school! I hate ratings! I won’t reach higher! I won’t strive harder! I won’t make tomorrow better than today!” In the walled city-state of Aramanth, rules are everything. When Kestrel Hath dares to rebel, the Chief Examiner humiliates her father and sentences the whole family to the harshest punishment. Desperate to save them, Kestrel learns the secret of the wind singer, and she and her twin brother, Bowman, set out on a terrifying journey to the true source of evil that grips Aramanth . . .

Review

“You like fantasy don’t you? I’ve got a set of books you’ll like they’re the only books I’ve ever read” says a friend to me before handing over his set of The Wind of Fire trilogy a YA Fantasy series putting me in an awkward position because as we know, I don’t do YA. Deciding to make an exception this once because this friend was so enthusiastic about these books and some other fellow bloggers online showed similar enthusiasm I decided to give them a go and now having finished the first one I’m starting to see why the rave reviews.

Living in a dystopian world where everything is determined by the rank your family has as a result of how well they perform in school, work, and examinations. I just kept thinking of the poor people with dyslexia I mean horrific! Anyway Kestrel has enough and has a bit of a breakdown which is unheard of getting herself and her family into a whole heap of hot water. What she also does is stumble onto a quest to save the whole city from this awful way of life and with her brother, Bowman and a classmate, Mumpo she sets out to find what has to be found and bring it back to save them all.

This is a great quest based fantasy, with danger lurking on every page, lots of interesting characters, some good some bad. Plenty of character development, especially on Mumpo’s part, it’s fair to say I could happily have pushed his stalker like self off a cliff for about two-thirds of the book.

The ideas in this book were quite refreshing and the pace was quick without too much hanging around anywhere. Lots happens in this book there is a lot to take in and there isn’t much down time between different scenes. While it was enjoyable as an adult I imagine kids will get immense enjoyment from everything it has to offer.

#BlogTour: Twist of Fate by Regine Abel @regineabel #Review

Welcome to the blog tour for Twist of Fate by Regine Abel. This is book 4 in the Veredian Chronicles if you’ve not been following my reviews of the earlier books then here are the links…

Description

First Officer Ghan has entered the final stages of the Taint, the deadly disease that kills most Xelixian males by the age of forty. He is determined to bring an elusive foe to justice before his body shuts down completely.

When tragedy strikes a close ally, he finds his soulmate in an unexpected twist of fate. If only she had revealed herself sooner, she could have cured him. Now, she can only keep him in limbo. Is it too late for them or will fate deal them a new hand?

Review

Ghan has been a favourite character throughout this series. His serious approach to his job and his brotherly relationship with Amalia have secured him in the hearts of readers, well this reader anyway. So I was overjoyed to learn that Twist of Fate was Ghan’s story and that we wouldn’t be losing him to the taint after all…well hopefully anyway.

When Ghan is given a few month’s before the taint finally claims his life he accepts it as the beautiful soul we have learned him to be. Then a miracle happens and someone he thinks he knows is revealed to be more than they are and with that reveal his mate bond kicks in and that moment he never thought he had happens. I’m not going to say who, what, when, or why. Because why spoil a damn good plot point. She’s a wonderful character and together they make an invincible team both in and out of the bedroom!

There is also a question around if she is able to help cure his taint so close to the end, she doesn’t have the magic touch that Amalia did and so they have to deal with saying goodbye just when they say hello. So sad.

In addition with this touching romance, we are on a mission to free the last of the Veredian females and seeing how this ongoing story arc unfolds is thrilling, Regine Abel has been sure to put some surprises in here all the way through to the end of the book so be ready to expect the unexpected!

I laughed so much at Amalia’s children in this book, they are adorable…and I never say that about children real or fictional but just had to here. Little terrors!

This series has been a thrill to read, just bloody brilliant.

I’m very grateful to Regine Abel for the eARC so that I could read and review this book honestly.

#Review: Reclaim by Marley Valentine @MValentine__

Description

Unlike most eighteen year olds, I had the weight of the world on my young shoulders. Desperate to do right by my family, my questionable choices led me to the pits of hell.

Steel bars, three meals a day and no contact with the outside world; regret consumed my every thought. Desperate to pay my penance, forgiveness and a happily ever after wasn’t the plan.

But there she was.

Warm, passionate and unexpected, Emerson Lane was the light at the end of the tunnel. She was all a man like me could want and everything I didn’t deserve.

Redemption wasn’t something I thought I would ever find. Until she found me.

Review

Jagger made a terrible mistake when he was 18, a mistake that saw him put behind bars for fifteen years. A sentence he believes he deserves more than anybody else. Certainly, nobody beats him up more than Jagger beats himself up. After twelve years in prison, he is granted parole and the solicitor who brings him the news is like a breath of fresh air for him. Emerson wakes something up in Jagger, he knows he doesn’t deserve a woman like her but for some reason she sees him. Not the prisoner, or the boy who made the terrible mistake, but the man he is, she sees right into his soul.

This is my first Marley Valentine book and I am so glad it was recommended to me by one of the beta readers. While there were moments where I would have liked to have seen more of their developing relationship this is a gripping story of two people from two different worlds who on paper should never have fit together yet the moment they meet the sparks are undeniable. In fact, their meeting was my favourite scene in the book and I highly recommend reading just for that scene alone.

I particularly love that it is set in Australia, it’s nice to get away from the books set in the US, and I could clearly hear their accents and see the locations. I thoroughly enjoyed this whole story. I was thrilled when I got to the end and found out another book is coming with Jagger’s twin brother Hendrix, who I was totally crushing on throughout the Reclaim. I can’t wait to get my teeth into that one.

#Review: Raising Amalia by Regine Abel @regineabel

Have you read my previous books in this series? If not, check the links below:

Description

Sevina has never known life outside a slave ship… until today. At twenty-two, she’s sent to Eryon Valis, a Korlethean slave with whom she must mate as part of their master’s psi breeding program. When a prophecy sets a target on her, Eryon secretly shields her and their unborn daughter from those who would harm them.

Unbeknownst to Sevina, her mother Maheva faces her own emotional turmoil while playing a dangerous game to protect her children from the crew and the twisted Guldan beliefs of their Master Gruuk.

As one tragedy compounds another, will Fate forsake them or set the path to a better future?

Review

Raising Amalia takes us back to the events prior to Escaping Fate, it tells us how Amalia’s Great Mother Maheva came to be on the slave ship, a pet to their Master Gruuk, and how her and her daughters were his favourites. This story tells us how Amalia came to be and how her escape as we see it in the first book came about.

What I loved about this book was that it gives us small details about Amalia’s family, and the events that lead to her escape that we would never have known otherwise, that she doesn’t know, that are tremendously moving and help us to see some of the players in a slightly different light.

I was deeply moved by several of the passages in this book as we moved between Maheva’s dialogue to Sevina (Amalia’s mother) and even to Amalia’s Father who she never meets. Their lives as slaves are not easy and knowing that they do the best they can in the face of such adversity is emotionally draining.

I went into this book feeling a little negative I will be honest, I thought do I really need to read this, I just want more of the story I’m already invested in, but actually this added a whole load of extra value to that story while taking me on quite the emotional rollercoaster so I’m super glad I dug in.

Thanks to Regine Abel for the eARC of this book so that I could read and honestly review the book.
