#Review: Cursed by Mila Young @MilaYoungAuthor

If you would like to catch up on my reviews of the earlier books in this series catch them at the links below:

Beauty and the Four Beasts. A Deadly Curse. A Fallen Kingdom.

With magic banned in the human realm, Bee, a powerful witch, has had to offer her services in secret. When a request to break a curse comes from the dangerous mountains and royal bear shifters, Bee is hesitant, but winter is coming and funds are tight.

At the castle, Bee finds things are not quite what she was led to believe. The curse Bee is meant to break has reached its zenith, siphoning off the Prince’s life while preventing him from controlling his shifting abilities. He is volatile, angry, and far stronger than she had imagined. His brothers, who commissioned her, present her with a challenge – fix it, or lose everything.

Soon the curse is spreading throughout the castle, taking brother alike. It’s a race against the clock, buffeted by dark magic, intrigue, and a strange attraction that has her looking at the four brothers in a new light.

Note: Each book in the Haven Realm series is a standalone book.

Bee is a magic caster (also known as a witch but she doesn’t like that term) who has a job in the mountains working for some bear shifters. Bee is best friends with Scarlet who we meet in the first book in this series so if you’ve read in order then you will have briefly met her already. If you haven’t read in order there are no issues these books have very little overlap and the stories are steadfastly standalone so you can pick them up in whatever order you like.

When Bee arrives at the home of the shifters she is surprised to find it is a castle and they are Princes. She is also surprised to find the curse she has been hired to cure is much more dangerous than she could have anticipated. As she digs her heels in time running out and her heart becoming more attached to these four men the adrenaline really pumps through this story.

This is a retelling of beauty and the beast, which ironically is my least favourite fairy tale, I absolutely hate it. But I loved this retelling so much. I was on the edge of my seat willing Bee to find the answers and some happiness as well. This book has some much drama and intensity in it that it just feels non-stop. I had no idea how things were going to resolve or even if they would.

The character development and world building in this book is solid with Bee and all four of the men; Leven, Talin, Ash and Raze each having unique personalities which made them stand apart on the page.

There was another angle where Bee is a writer in her world and Mila Young put a few little twists in around Bee’s writing which I absolutely loved. I’m not going to give away what Mila did but they were perfect little twists and so well done.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this series to date but Cursed was absolutely outstanding, beyond all of my expectations and will take some beating. A standing ovation for Mila Young for this one, her writing is on fire from the first word to the last, I can’t praise this book highly enough.

#Review: Charmed by Mila Young @MilaYoungAuthor

Aladdin and Arabian Nights. Three Dangerously Sexy Genies. A Deadly Sorcerer.

In the depths of the Sultan’s cave, tenacious street thief Azar steals a bunch of jewels and a brass lamp. Sure, stealing has no honor, but she’ll do whatever it takes to feed her brother, buy the medicine he needs and get them out of the slums of Utaara.

When Azar releases three gorgeous genies from the lamp, her first wish is to save her brother. Except the genies magic is weakened from being trapped for hundreds of years, and they must wait for their power to recover. A growing darkness in the kingdom is hunting Azar’s genies, desperate to claim their power for his own dark plans. Now Azar must fight to save her brother and the genies that have charmed their way into her heart.

Family, magic and love intertwine in an action packed romance with a ‘Happily Ever After.’

Charmed is a Haven Realm novel retelling of Aladdin.

Note: Each book in the Haven Realm series is a standalone book.

The second standalone book in Mila Young’s Haven Realm book is a retelling of Aladdin with three really sexy genie’s…believe me I’m holding my tongue on the genie and lamp puns right now because I’ve got loads of them!

Azar is a street thief, a talented one who has had no choice but to turn to thievery to look after her and her sick brother in a harsh land where, as orphans, they were abused and used.

Now her brother needs a medicine that they can’t afford and she delves into the Sultan’s treasure trove where she escapes with more than she bargained for, a lamp which contains three genies. Three sexy, genies who are willing to help her…once their power regenerates.

As she grows closer to the genies, their bonds growing and becoming more permanent they fight to find the medicine that will save her brother and to ensure that the genies don’t become the possession of the Sultan.

A cameo appearance from Scarlet who is the starlet in book one was a wonderful addition and is a lovely way to tie the books together and keep the world as one.

For someone who doesn’t usually enjoy fairy tale retellings, I am eating these up! I think Mila Young may be converting me! Can’t wait until the next one comes out which I’ve already pre-ordered.

#Review: Hunted by Mila Young @MilaYoungAuthor

Little Red Riding Hood. Three Big Bad Wolves. A Poisonous Scheme.

Scarlet, a healer, lives nestled in the forest surrounded by humans on one side and wolves on the other. But when a rogue wolf attacks her, she’s rescued by another pack and taken deep into their den to perform her healing magic on an injured Alpha.

The wolves in the forest are under threat from a mysterious affliction, and Scarlet is the only hope they have left. Faced with a mixed pack of threatened shifters, Scarlet must use her wits and magic to survive and unravel the strange affliction now affecting the wolves… All while trying to navigate an overpowering attraction to not just one, but three of the Alphas.

Witches, wolves, magic and love intertwine in an exciting mystery that finds its own, unique, ‘Happily Ever After.’

Note: Each book in the Haven Realm series is a standalone book.

I saw this being promoted in one of the reverse harem groups I am in on Facebook and while I am not generally a fan of fairy tales or fairy tale retellings there was something about the blurb which hooked me and I pre-ordered it.

Our Red Riding Hood in this story is Scarlet, a healer who runs a herb store in the human part of the world, near the forest where she lives. Close to where she lives is The Den, the part of the world ruled by wolves, neither is permitted to cross the boundary into the other’s realm, but when Scarlet witnesses something she isn’t supposed to she ends up in The Den by accident while fleeing for her life.

Rescued by Alpha’s and taken to a cabin she is asked to heal one of the Alpha’s who was injured rescuing her. But she is connected to these men…no wolves, and has to battle with her desire to return home versus her growing feelings for these men who ignite a fire inside of her body and soul.

I loved watching Scarlet interact with these three wolves, each of them very different, not only in their own personalities but in how they reacted to her. The dangers within the Den that were encroaching on the things happening within the cabin were very real and Scarlet’s desire to help was so genuine, proving some of the prejudice that was held about humans very wrong.

For me, this was a story which certainly had elements to remind you of the original story but was very much an original standalone story of its own which was what I loved most about it. Immediately after finishing it I pre-ordered the next two books in the series (the second now downloaded and read, review to follow shortly), i’m fairly sure I’ve found a new addiction.

I think I might have enjoyed fairy tales a bit more when I was younger if they were like this! Just saying!

#BookBlitz: The Elf by Max Dune feat. #Q&A & #Giveaway @authormaxdune @XpressoTours

Welcome to this book blitz organised by Xpresso Book Tours. Today I have a festive fantasy fairy tale for you from author Max Dune, try saying that after a few mulled wines! I have a character Q&A with Zeb the star of The Elf on the blog today as well as an international giveaway so check out the goodies and I’ll see you at the end of the post!

This Christmas…it’s war.  Grab your weapon and join the fight in this modern Santa Claus retelling with a dark twist. Fans of Guardians of the Galaxy and Avatar will be riveted by The Elf‘s action, humor and romance!

Elves are dying in the North Pole, and none of their scientists can find a cure. They believe it’s a virus, unleashed by a powerful enemy. All signs point to Jack Frost, who’s been biding his time from afar. Watching. Waiting. Plotting. One brave elf, to save his kind, will venture out to meet evil in the eye. But he uncovers a mystery more dangerous than he could have ever imagined. Now Lucian must join a group of warriors and fight. Fuego; a flame-wielding pyro. Tiktok; a brilliant bomb expert, Yuriko; a deadly ninja assassin. And Bullets; a hot-headed gun aficionado. These unlikely heroes must learn to work together and defeat the rising evil. Or Christmas will soon be lost…forever.

Character Q&A:

Welcome, Zeb!
Thanks for having me. (Glances at cookies on table) Are those free?

Of course. Help yourself.
Just a nibble. (Grabs a handful and shoves an entire cookie into his mouth) It’s for my anxiety.

No worries. You’ve been through a lot recently, haven’t you?
So you’ve heard about my choir rejection? (inhales sharply) I’m still bitter about that. Very bitter. Our director is a moron. I can only assume that he is intimidated by my raw vocal powers. Either that or he doesn’t want me to outshine the rest of the choir. Which is understandable.

I was referring to the virus that’s killing elves in Santa’s Village.
I mean, that’s been difficult too.

Any idea who’s behind the virus?
We suspect it’s Jack Frost.

Why is that?
Well, he sort of bombed our village recently.

Wow. Safe to say it’s him then.

On the bright side, you have lots of guards protecting Santa’s Village.
You seen those Russians?

I did.
They’re pretty scary, huh?

 (Nods and chuckles nervously)
Santa hired those thugs. Ugh. It’s like watching The Godfather but with Russian dubbing. Us worker elves stay away from them. They’re not exactly social. But I guess that’s the kind of security we need to deal with a psychopath like Jack Frost.

How long have you worked here?
A couple of years. I couldn’t afford college and I didn’t get any scholarships so I applied for work here. Had I known what would happen…I might have stuck to flipping burgers. No elf-killing viruses at McDonald’s. And their chicken nuggets are dope.

And how’s your roommate doing? I understand he couldn’t make it today.
Yes, he sends his apologies. Lucian’s just been through a lot. Way more than me. He lost both his parents three months ago.

Oh my goodness. I’m so sorry to hear that. Was it due to the virus?
That’s right. All because of Jack Frost. But he’s not going to get away with this. We’re going to catch him, and when we do, he’s going to pay.

Let’s hope that day arrives soon. Well, thank you for spending time with us today, Zeb. Is there anything else you’d like to say before we end this interview?
Just one thing. Follow me on Twitter. @Zebdropsitlikeitshot
