Welcome to another review from my guest reviewer Siobhan…

Description

Ciarah O’Rourke was born into torture.
A human spirit reincarnated in the body of an ancient fae goddess, she’s spent the last five years in iron shackles, her mind poisoned with magic for secrets she doesn’t know.

Waking up in a dirty alley with no memory of her escape, Ciarah finds herself in the hands of The Wild Hunt Motorcycle Club–a ruthless and violent group of bikers with faerie blood in their veins.

Arlo.  Reece.  Killian.
Three men drenched in death, sin, and old magic.
From their clubhouse in the middle of the Louisiana bayou, they’ll offer Ciarah the keys to unlock her memories and control the veil between worlds.  But even her knights can’t erase the twisted scars that remind her they aren’t the only ones who hunt.

When The Wild Hunt rides, the souls of the dead join their parade.
All that’s missing now is their queen.

Review

So this is my second book by both authors, and I’m loving both of these ladies work so stinking much. The intense chemistry between all the characters is off the charts, and I love the fact that the female lead is dominant and not a damsel in distress, she’s strong, empowered and not at all ashamed of her body.

The male characters are amazing and intense more some than others. Her 3 appointed knights are all unique, and I cannot wait to read the next book I’m highly impatiently waiting, this is another 5* read for me, the writing and storyline and the plot, everything is brilliant these two talented authors are fantastic I’m so glad to have found them.

Description

Sin or piety.

Those are the two things I’m choosing between when I walk up those stone steps and into the church. Heaven or hell. Pain or pleasure. But sometimes, pleasure brings more hurt than pain.

I’ve learned my lesson the hard way and that’s why I’m doing this, giving up everything I know and love for a whole new life. A life dedicated to something, someone, other than myself.

The thing is, sometimes fate has other ideas.

Out of all the churches in town, I picked this one. This building with its vaulted ceilings and stained glass and all its secrets.

This building that houses them.

My five worst sins.

My five most awesome pleasures.

Excerpt

“Mrs. Carroll,” Hawke says, setting me down suddenly and grabbing the edges of my shirt.  He jerks it back into place and covers up all my bits.

“Father Dell used to … set a box outside this door to collect donations for the homeless,” the woman said, staring, not at the giant man in the body armor and guns, but at me.  Me!

I try to move, but Hawke tightens his grip, the muscles in his arm bulging and tensing like steel.  I can hardly even breathe.  But having that big, solid form behind me is… exhilarating.  Hawke smells like leather and musk and man.

“Yes, well, that’s an excellent idea,” he grumbles as I stand there like the typical mob-daughter that I am.  Here is a person, unconnected to all of this shit, and I’m not screaming or calling out for help.  Because back home, all that would do is get the old woman killed.

At least, that’s what my father would do.

“We’ll … look into that,” he continues, reaching past me with a big hand, and slamming the door closed in the old woman’s face.

“Your cover is fucked,” I breathe, but Hawke just grunts and lets go of me before putting his hands on my shoulders and turning me around to face him.  His eyes bore into mine as I swallow past the lump in my throat.  I look up, up, up at him and wonder if this is the moment where it all ends.

“So, are you going to kill me now?”

“Kill you?” Hawke asks with a long exhale.

“Not exactly.”

He steps back and gives me a look, propping his hands on his hips.

“Not … exactly?” I choke out as our gazes meet and a hot thrill takes over my body.

“You have two choices here, Natalia: let us take you to the nunnery … or stay here.”

“And if you do go to the nunnery,” Arsen says, grinning maniacally, “you best be careful.  We have agents there, too.  And they’ll be watching.”

“Agents?” I ask as Hawke looks me straight in the face.

“If you stay here, you also have two choices,” Hawke continues.  “Wait us out until we finish what we came here to do … or let me teach you.”

“Teach … me?” I ask as Hawke sucks in a breath.

“Dude, are you serious?” Colt asks, storming over to us and looking between me and Hawke like he’s crazy.  “Just let her go, man!”

“I can’t let her go!’ Hawke roars, and my skin erupts in goose bumps.

“I can’t let her go now.”

“She doesn’t know anything,” Colt says, sounding exasperated.

“Let her walk, man.”

“She knows enough,” Hawke responds with a sigh.

“And she’s his daughter.  I … can’t let her go.”

He stares at me, and I imagine that in a different scenario, hearing those words–I can’t let her go–would be a breathtaking experience.

“So … my choices are go to the nunnery or … you really are going to kill me?”

“You can stay here until we’re finished with our mission.  And then we’ll let you go.  But, if you stay, consider signing on with us. After that life you’ve led, you’d be a perfect candidate.”

“This is ridiculous!” Colt shouts, throwing up his hands and pacing a short, wild rut in the floor.  “You can’t hire her.”

“She’s perfect,” Arsen says, slinking up behind Hawke and taking a seat on the edge of the table.  “With all the shit she must know.”

“I’m willing to hire you to be a part of my team,” Hawke says, “but you’ll have to be willing to work.”

“Work for … what?” I ask and he gives me a tight smile.

“If you joined our team, your life would change forever.  I’ll give you a rundown, and if you think you’re up for it … we’d love to have you.”

“Hear that?” Arsen smirks.  “We’d love to have you.

Blinking at the group of men in front of me, I have a bad, bad feeling about this.

Review

When Ciarah wakes up in a dirty alley she has no memory, found by The Wild Hunt motorcycle club she is taken in and given support and help. As her memories start to return they are full of horror and torture, and the people who did that to her haven’t gone away.

Ciarah is someone special, someone powerful, someone important and The Wild Hunt MC is going to protect her and help her through it. This especially applies to three key members of the club, Arlo, Reece, and Killian. For they aren’t just an MC, they are all members of the fae. And these three fae men are full of magic and lust which swirls around Ciarah and draws her to them.

I was deeply drawn to the paranormal story presented here, it was dark…really dark and our authors didn’t hold back on detail, brought in the form of flashbacks, memories, and dreams. Ciarah was the forming of the immortal fae woman and a human girl who was transferred into the immortal body. This makes for a really interesting balance with her personality, and also her background story. It was also a great way to make the non-human character much more human.

The relationship with the men was fitting, it was worked into the story perfectly with the sexual scenes not overbearing the main storyline but it was still thoroughly enjoyable and extremely hot. As with the previous series, these two authors have written and both of their individual books the men are very individual and have very solid distinct personalities which makes them each adorable and lovable, or downright annoying in their own right.

This was a fantastic read, the final couple of chapters especially standing out as completely unputdownable. I’m really looking forward to the second book in this series and seeing what Ciarah and her MC get up to next.

I’m very grateful to C.M. Stunich, Tate James and Xpresso Book Tours for the eARC so that I could read and review this book honestly.

About C.M. Stunich

C.M. Stunich - Author Image

C.M. Stunich is a self-admitted bibliophile with a love for exotic teas and a whole host of characters who live full time inside the strange, swirling vortex of her thoughts. Some folks might call this crazy, but Caitlin Morgan doesn’t mind – especially considering she has to write biographies in the third person. Oh, and half the host of characters in her head are searing hot bad boys with dirty mouths and skillful hands (among other things). If being crazy means hanging out with them everyday, C.M. has decided to have herself committed.

She hates tapioca pudding, loves to binge on cheesy horror movies, and is a slave to many cats. When she’s not vacuuming fur off of her couch, C.M. can be found with her nose buried in a book or her eyes glued to a computer screen. She’s the author of over thirty novels – romance, new adult, fantasy, and young adult included. Please, come and join her inside her crazy. There’s a heck of a lot to do there.

Oh, and Caitlin loves to chat (incessantly), so feel free to e-mail her, send her a Facebook message, or put up smoke signals. She’s already looking forward to it.

#BlogTour: Cards from Khloe’s Flower Shop by Isabella Louise Anderson @ChickLitGoddess @NeverlandBT #Excerpt #Giveaway

Welcome to the blog tour for Cards from Khloe’s Flower Shop by Isabella Louise Anderson. Unfortunately, this is one of the tours which has fallen victim to my struggling with reading recently and so I haven’t been able to get a review written yet and I send huge apologies to both Isabella Louise Anderson and Jenny from Neverland Blog Tours. However, I do have an excerpt from the book to share with you today.

Description

As the owner of a successful florist shop, Khloe Harper trusts her instincts. She has a strong bond with her family and friends, but after being betrayed by her last love, she’s kept herself at arms’ length from romance. When dashing entertainment attorney Derek Thomas walks into her store, Khloe’s interest is piqued. What at first seems like a business relationship quickly turns into romance, and Derek slowly plucks away the petals she’s been hiding behind. Just as Khloe lets down her guard, she discovers that Derek may not be worthy of her love after all.

Frumpy Connie Albright has a faux fascination with an imaginary man named Walt, thinking that by sending herself flowers from him she’ll feel less out-of-place with the “mean girls” she works with. When she comes face to face with her possible prince charming and thinking she might have a happy ending, when a truth is revealed, she wonders if she’ll ever have a Cinderella story.

A recently widowed senior, Gabby Lewis, isn’t ready to give up on love—which means releasing herself from survivor’s guilt and taking a chance on finding happiness and companionship again. After signing up for an online dating site for senior citizens, much to her surprise, she’s matched with Harry, an energetic and loving man, who quickly eases himself into her heart. Will Gabby take the leap of falling in love again, knowing it’s possible to have two loves of her life?

As each woman’s story develops through flowers and cards sent from Khloe’s shop during the Fall months, they begin to learn that love can only truly blossom when you trust your heart.

Cards From Khloe's Flower Shop - Tour Banner

Excerpt

Connie Albright

Connie typed anxiously on her keyboard, looking up from her cubicle every few seconds, waiting for Sharon from Khloe’s Flower Shop to come through the glass entryway doors. She had checked her email first thing that morning, and like always, once a week, there was a confirmation about her order.

Dear Connie Albright,

Your order to CONNIE ALBRIGHT has been created by one of our team members and is on its way to the recipient.

If you have any questions, comments, or complaints, please call Khloe Harper at 1-800-555-1212.

As always, I wish you a bouquet of happiness!

Khloe Harper

Owner of Khloe’s Flower Shop

With a sigh, Connie looked back down at her keyboard and continued entering patients’ data into the Excel spreadsheet. Six years ago, to pay for her college education, she had started the medical data entry job, where she found mundane tasks enjoyable, and had been looking forward to making new friends. However, these days, she was now a college graduate with a degree in marketing who hated her job, finding it boring and repetitive, nor had she made friends with any of her co-workers. In fact, they barely noticed her.

Compared to the thin, sexy bombshells she worked with, Connie wasn’t anyone to be desired. She was tall, frumpy, wore glasses, and, thanks to a conversation she overheard, was known in the office as “the ugly girl who wore tacky sweaters.” With the exception of a few that her grandmother had sent her for her birthday, having crocheted each one, Connie didn’t think the sweaters were tacky.

So, after hearing enough of what was being said behind her back, and after complaining to her best friend—her diary—she came up with an idea to change things, and, so far, it seemed to have worked like magic.

“Connie!” Mia, the office receptionist, squealed. “They’re here!”

With a slight pause to get ready for the weekly act she performed, Connie popped up from her chair and watched Sharon approach. After signing her name to the page on the clipboard, she gave Sharon, the only other person besides Khloe who knew her secret, a quick nod.

Suddenly, Connie found herself in the center of a circle of women hovering over her desk, eagerly waiting for her to read the card that came with the bouquet.

“Well, what does it say?” asked a co-worker.

“Yeah, come on. Tell us,” begged another.

She took in the moment, wishing she had a real man who would say the things she had written to herself. “Your beauty captures me more each day, and my love for you grows each time I touch you. I’m looking forward to this weekend…in bed! Walt.

Holding the card close to her chest, Connie forced tears from her eyes, forcing herself to blush in front of her co-workers. “Oh, I love that man so very much.”

“Seriously, that has to be the most romantic thing I’ve ever heard,” Mia said, dramatizing her voice and placing her hands on her chest. “Oh, Connie, you’re so lucky to have a man like him.”

“Yeah, Con, that’s cute,” began Nicola, the bitchiest of them all. “But the last time I got flowers, just yesterday as a matter of fact, they certainly weren’t carnations,” she joked, motioning her hand like she was shooing the flowers away from her. All the co-workers joined in her laughter, and then shuffled back to their desks.

Connie looked at her flowers and smiled, her feathers not ruffled by Nicola’s comment. She felt accomplished and desired. For a few moments, she’d been the center of attention of a group of women who she knew despised her. Even back in high school, she had been a female nerd, which crossed her out from being friends with the beautiful and popular girls, and in college it was pretty much the same story. It’s not that she didn’t try to make an effort, because she did, but after failing time and time again, whether it be at orientation, working together in groups for school projects, or the few times Connie went to a pub near the university in hopes of meeting up with a few girls who she thought she could be friends with, it never worked. They either laughed in her face, said that the empty seat next to them was already taken (when it really wasn’t), or simply ignored her.

Though it was beginning to get expensive and difficult to keep the lies about Walt straight, Connie had no other choice but to continue the weekly charade.

It’s just the right thing to do!, she told herself, taking a seat in her chair before continuing to enter the endless data, while thinking of what Walt’s card would say the following week.

#BlogTour: The Authors Bookshelf Special Edition – Jennifer S. Alderson – Rituals of the Dead @JSAauthor

I know, I know, it isn’t Saturday and here I am announcing a Bookshelf post!

When Jennifer S. Alderson approached me about taking part in her blog tour for her new novel Rituals of the Dead and she said she wanted to take part in The Bookshelf for it I thought it was a great idea. Of course, I had no free Saturday spaces during her tour dates so I decided “what the hell” and went with the “let’s live dangerously” line of thought and agreed to post on a Thursday instead. Hopefully, all will remain right with the world and I’ve not upset the balance of time and space!

I want to ensure the book we’re here for, gets its time so before we start The Bookshelf here is a bit about Rituals of the Dead.

Description

Rituals of the Dead: An Artifact Mystery

Art, religion, and anthropology collide in Alderson’s latest mystery thriller, Rituals of the Dead, book three of the Adventures of Zelda Richardson series.

Art history student Zelda Richardson is working at the Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam on an exhibition of bis poles from the Asmat region of Papua New Guinea – the same area where a famous American anthropologist disappeared in 1962. When his journals are found inside one of the bis poles, Zelda is tasked with finding out more about the man’s last days and his connection to these ritual objects.

Zelda is pulled into a world of shady anthropologists, headhunters, missionaries, art collectors, and smugglers – where the only certainty is that sins of the past are never fully erased.

Join Zelda as she grapples with the anthropologist’s mysterious disappearance fifty years earlier, and a present-day murderer who will do anything to prevent her from discovering the truth.

So, onto the books! Here is Julia’s bookshelf, enjoy…

What was the first book you remember having on your bookshelf?
The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett is the first book I can remember having on my bookshelf. I read it so often that it fell apart!

What was the most recent book you added to the bookshelf?
I received Dan Brown’s Origin for Christmas. I haven’t had a chance to start it yet, but do look forward to reading his descriptions of Barcelona and La Sagrada Familia.

Which book have you most recently read from your bookshelf?
The Vestals Conspiracy by Tomasz Chrusciel and The Hidden Village: A Story of Survival in World War II by Imogen Matthews.

Which 5 books from last year would you not let go of from your bookshelf?

Victoria Blake’s Titian’s Boatman, The Master by Dora Ilieva, Casket Cache by Janice Richardson, The Secret Wife by Gill Paul, and The Samoan Pyramid by Maya Lynch.

Which books are you most looking forward to adding to your bookshelf?
I saw Donna Leon has a new book out – The Temptation of Forgiveness. I love her work! I also want to read Conspiracy of Lies by Kathryn Gauci and Far Away by Victoria Blake.

What was the most recent addition to your writers bookshelf?

Debbie McComber’s Knit Together. Whether you’re a church-goer or not, this is a wonderful book to read if you are a feeling a bit lost and need some help finding your path in life, or a writer (or other creative person) who needs a bit of inspiration to keep going in the face of rejection.

Which of your own books are you most proud of adding to the bookshelf?

The Lover’s Portrait: An Art Mystery. It took three years to write and I am still immensely proud that I finished it!

In 2004, I moved to Amsterdam to study art history and worked for several Dutch museums before my son was born in 2011. I’d been batting this idea for an art mystery around in my head for years, but didn’t work out the plot’s structure until I decided to stay home and raise him. I wrote primarily while he napped. Three years later, it was ready for publication. Writing about art, history and museums was also a wonderful way to stay in touch with my ‘adult life’ while raising a toddler. I am delighted to see how well readers respond to it!

Which book on your bookshelf do you most wish you had written?
Expats by Chris Pavone. It’s a thrilling amateur sleuth mystery and adventure through Europe.

Is there a WIP we can look forward to adding to our bookshelves?

I am so excited to announce the release of my third novel, Rituals of the Dead: An Artifact Mystery on April 6! Set in Amsterdam and Papua New Guinea, it combines anthropology, art, and history into one thrilling adventure.

This time my protagonist, Zelda Richardson, is working at the Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam on an exhibition of bis poles from the Asmat region of Papua New Guinea – the same area where a famous American anthropologist disappeared in 1962. When his journals are found inside one of the bis poles, Zelda is tasked with investigating the man’s last days and his connection to these ritual objects.

Zelda finds herself pulled into a world of shady anthropologists, missionaries, art collectors, headhunters, and smugglers, where the only certainty is that sins of the past are never fully erased.

Join Zelda on her next quest as she grapples with the anthropologist’s mysterious disappearance fifty years earlier, and a present-day murderer who will do everything to prevent her from discovering the truth.

My hope in writing this book is not only to entertain readers, but also inspire them to learn more about the Asmat and their fascinating culture. I can’t wait to share Rituals of the Dead with mystery and thriller fans!

It’s available as paperback and eBook on April 6, 2018 but you can pre-order the eBook now for the low introductory price of 99 cents! Visit my website for direct links. [http://www.jennifersalderson.com/]

Can you share a picture of your bookshelf / favourite bookshelf?

The Bookshelf

the-bookshelf-logo

This was so much fun running a bookshelf mid-week as part of a blog tour for a bit of a change, I may be persuaded to do this again.

Taking Part in The Bookshelf
I’ve currently put a pause on taking new applications for The Bookshelf. I recently put a call-out for participants on Facebook and am currently booked up into June so want to get through most of these lovely people before I open the floodgates again. If you already have a form to return to me, feel free to do so, just be aware there is a quite a wait for spots right now.

#BlogTour: Dark Wish by Yumoyori Wilson @XpressoTours #Excerpt

Welcome to the blog tour for Dark Wish by Yumoyori Wilson. I was so excited to take part on this tour, this book has been on my TBR for a while and it gave me an excuse to read and review it a bit sooner. Unfortunately my latest Bipolar flair up has really set back my reading and I just haven’t been able to get to it. I have to send massive apologies to Yumoyori as I was really wanting to get my teeth into this book. I will definitely be reviewing it as soon as the old mojo is back in play as normal.

For now, I have an excerpt from the novel which I guarantee will whet your appetite, there is a giveaway and if you want to follow the tour you can at Xpresso Book Tours. This is the first book in a new reverse harem series, you know how I love my reverse harem so I have no doubt it’s brilliant!

Description

What do you get when you add free and dumb?
FREEDOM

My name is Makoto Heart and I’ve always wished for a chance at freedom. Every day, I prayed before the Starlight gods, asking for their divine assistance in accomplishing such a difficult task.

Being an experiment for as long as I can remember, my hopes of obtaining freedom have diminished, drastically. The disappointment haunted me, as myself and my spirits struggled to survive. I had no hope left, believing my final plea fell upon deaf ears, yet again.

But what happens when my prayers are finally answered? I’m thrust into fulfilling a destiny, with the help of six star knights. Suddenly, I am no longer experiment 555, but the stolen princess of Heila.

Freedom, how you have teased my troubled soul. May the Starlight gods guide me and my knights, on this path towards the unknown.

~In Stars We Trust~

Dark Wish is an extraordinary new paranormal reverse harem series.
Recommended for 18+ audience, containing mature sexual content and strong language.

Why is it so cold or is his tingle inducing voice doing that?

“If you were wearing clothes, maybe you would feel, you know, less chilly?” Rose suggested, sounding uninterested in my current dilemma.

I panicked, glancing down to see myself wearing only a pink laced bra and matching panties. Karen had given me a spare set of clothes to change into that were more feminine, reassuring me I’d have more selection and school uniform by tomorrow.

I swear to starlight, I put something on before I slept…

“If you’re referring to the sheet that you grabbed off the side of the bed, wrapping yourself up like a caterpillar cocooning itself for hibernation, and face planting into the bed, then yes. You essentially put something on.” Lexi mused, enjoyment oozing off her usual mellow voice.

I groaned, putting my head into my hands. If I could die from embarrassment, this would be the moment. First night sleeping in a house filled with boys and I’d miraculously broke into one of the rooms, snuck myself into an occupied bed, and now was on full display like an underwear model.

Talk about first impressions.

#BlogTour: The Cocktail Bar by Isabella May @IsabellaMayBks @crookedcatbooks @emmamitchellfpr #Review

Today I welcome The Cocktail Bar tour to BrizzleLass Books. Written by Isabella May, this romantic comedy will leave you wondering will they won’t they and what’s so special about that damn bottle of Mexican stuff? Today I have a review of the book and I hope that you enjoy your trip to Glastonbury and time with River and his friends.

Thanks to Emma Mitchell and Isabella May for including me in the tour.

Description

Rock star, River Jackson, is back in his hometown of Glastonbury to open a cocktail bar… and the locals aren’t impressed.

Seductive Georgina is proving too hot to handle; band mate, Angelic Alice, is messing with his heart and his head; his mum is a hippie-dippy liability; his school friends have resorted to violence – oh, and his band manager, Lennie, AND the media are on his trail.

But River is armed with a magical Mexican elixir which will change the lives of the Three Chosen Ones. Once the Mexican wave of joy takes a hold of the town, he’s glad he didn’t lose his proverbial bottle.

Pity he hasn’t taken better care of the real one…!

Review

River has had his fill of stardom. He wants a simple life, the life he’s dreamed of, running a cocktail bar in his hometown of Glastonbury. But some of the locals aren’t happy with his return, his old mates who feel smarted by not only his success but by the fact he “stole” a girl from one of them. Old wounds run deep and all that.

Revenge plans are set in place and poor River is hampered at different turns as he tries to get his dream off the ground. But not to worry because local babe Georgina wants a piece of the pie…and that pie includes River it seems. The face she is the younger sister of his arch nemesis is not suspicious at all…nope not a bit!

Then his ex-bandmate, and stolen babe Alice rushes home and straight into his bar. She’s in love with him it seems but does River feel the same, he’s busy bonking Georgina. Oh what a right old mess he’s got himself into.

Then there is the mysterious bottle from Mexico. He guards it like it’s the crown jewels. The cocktail which contains this as an ingredient is a safely guarded secret and he will only allow a select few to have it…but why? and who?

This cocktail bar is a hotbed of drama, mystery and even by Glastonbury standards downright weirdness.

This was an enjoyable romp with lots of giggles, as River tries to figure out just what the hell he is doing!

Huge thanks to Isabella May and Emma Mitchell for the eARC so that I could read and honestly review this book.

About Isabella May

Isabella MayIsabella May lives in (mostly) sunny Andalucia, Spain with her husband, daughter and son, creatively inspired by the sea and the mountains. When she isn’t having her cake and eating it, sampling a new cocktail on the beach, or ferrying her children to and from after school activities, she can usually be found writing.

As a Co-founder and a former contributing writer for the popular online women’s magazine, The Glass House Girls – http://www.theglasshousegirls.com – she has also been lucky enough to subject the digital world to her other favourite pastimes, travel, the Law of Attraction, and Prince (The Purple One).

She has recently become a Book Fairy, and is having lots of fun with her imaginative ‘drops’!

Oh! What a Pavlova is her debut novel… and her second novel has already been submitted to her publishers: watch this space…
