Week in Review – 3 September 2017

This week, this happened, 500 posts is kind of crazy right? That’s a lot of talking, sorry about that!

I’m really behind with reviews at the moment, I will try and catch up with them over the next few week’s but I’m also trying to not stress about the blog so if I don’t, so be it!

I had a wonderful time in Lincolnshire with my Sister and Niece, we did some fun things and had lots of fun hanging out. My Niece even helped me with my work out, I had 140 sit ups to do to complete my 30 day challenge I’ve been taking part in with my circuits class. My Niece decided she would be my personal trainer for this, but also sat on me for it! My Sister recorded a bit of it…I thought I would share, you can view it on Instagram.

I also met up with a blogging friend while I was up in Lincolnshire, it’s a friend from the other blog, and someone I’ve spoken to for at least two years now so it was nice to put a face to the name and have a chat over a cup of tea for an hour.

Right, here is my bookish update for this week!

Book of the Month

So it’s that time again to pick another winning book, I didn’t read a huge amount in August, I was completely tunnel visioned on writing my book! But here is my choice!

The Last Dragon Rider by Errin Krystal
The Last Dragon Rider - Errin KrystalThe Last Dragon Rider is a superb Fantasy novella which absolutely blew me away. I have been following the progress of this for some time as a reader of the authors blog so was super excited to get one of the ARCs as part of the blog tour to review. I highly recommend this to fans of epic fantasy, sword and sorcery, and dragons.

#BookBlitz: Sunsets at Seaside by Addison Cole @addison_cole @lolasblogtours #Review #Excerpt #Giveaway

I’m so pleased to be bringing this blitz to you today, Thanks to Lola’s Blog Tours for hosting this, I have an excerpt, review and giveaway for you today so don’t miss out below. This is the fourth book in this series, but it is perfectly fine as a standalone, however if you want to catch up, here are the earlier books in the series…

Book One: Read, Write, Love at Seaside (Currently Free)
Book Two: Dreaming at Seaside
Book Three: Hearts at Seaside

Description

Sweet with Heat: Seaside Summers features a group of fun, flirty, and emotional friends who gather each summer at their Cape Cod cottages. They’re sassy, flawed, and so easy to relate to, you’ll be begging to enter their circle of friends!

Sunsets at Seaside by Addison Cole is the sweet edition of New York Times bestselling author Melissa Foster’s steamy romance novel Seaside Sunsets. The stories and characters remain the same, and convey all of the passion you expect between two people in love, without any explicit scenes or harsh language.

In SUNSETS at SEASIDE…
Jessica Ayers has lived a sheltered life with little more than cello lessons and practices taking up her day. Now a member of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, she escapes the prim and proper symphony to vacation in the Seaside community in Wellfleet, Massachusetts, to determine if she is living life to the fullest or missing it altogether.

For the first time since developing the second largest search engine in the world, billionaire Jamie Reed is taking the summer off. He plans to work from the Cape and spend time with his elderly grandmother—and falling in love is not in his plans.

From the moment Jamie and Jessica meet, the attraction is white-hot. Once-overly-focused Jamie can think of little else than sweet, smart, and alluring Jessica, and Jessica discovers a side of herself she never knew existed. But when Jamie’s business encounters trouble and his attorney and best friend intervenes, he proves that the brown-haired beauty is too distracting for Jamie. To make matters worse, it appears that Jessica might not be who she says she is, turning Jamie’s life—and his heart—upside down. In a world where personal information is always one click away, Jamie must decide if he should trust his heart or watch the woman he loves walk away.

Review

Jessica is one of my favourite female characters in a long time, a cellist in the Boston Symphony Orchestra she has come to Seaside to try and discover what life is meant to be like for someone of her age. Now I felt pretty aligned to Jessica, the cello is one of the instruments I used to play, we sort of share a surname (slightly different spelling) and I just loved that as much as she loves music she also wants a life which is something I completely relate to.

When she bumps into Jamie, sparks fly and it’s inevitable they are going to fall for each other, but Jamie runs one of the most successful tech companies in the world, and she has a career to go back to so how they make it work is a question they need to deal with and it’s one that Jessica isn’t mentally or emotionally prepared for.

I haven’t read any of the other Seaside stories, and while I’m normally a stickler for reading books in series order, this caused me no issues here. All of the other characters were easy to get to know and fell into place really well, being extremely likeable, some funny, some playful, others adorable. I felt part of the crowd as they sat around a fire chatting.

This is a community you want to be part of and as they bring Jessica into their fold it’s clear she wants to be part of it as well. I definitely want to read more of these and find out the back stories of more of these characters.

I loved this book and will be adding more to my shelf and recommending to anybody who enjoys a feel good romance.

Sending a huge thanks to Addison Cole and Lola’s Blog Tours for the eARC so that I could read and honestly review this novel.

Excerpt

“Guess it’s just you and me.”

Jamie’s rich voice slid over her, bringing goose bumps to her arms and heating her up even more. How the heck did he manage to pull off laid-back and sensual at the same time? And why was it such a turn-on? She looked down at her hand, still on his thigh, and felt his muscles flex. The fire was nearly out, just a few embers glowing in the darkness. She should probably go home. It was already far later than she was used to staying up, and she had a big day tomorrow. Didn’t she? Didn’t she always? She had to practice and…No. That wasn’t right. She wasn’t practicing. She was vacationing. She had all the time in the world.

She realized that she hadn’t responded to Jamie’s remark. Instead of answering him, she tilted her head and looked at him. Really looked at him. He was too beautiful, and she was pretty sure it wasn’t just the tequila that made her think so. His hazel eyes were seductively dark and narrow. His tanned skin blended handsomely with the sexy scruff on his jaw, and his full lips were barely parted. She wanted to run her finger along his lips and feel their softness.

“What?” he asked quietly.

“I’m just…” Thinking about touching your scruff. And maybe your lips. And that crease by your mouth when you smile. There it is. Oh, I love that crease. Oh, and your hands. I’m dying to know what your hands feel like. “Thinking…” It was the only word she could manage without making a fool of herself.

“Thinking about throwing your phone at me again?”

Week in Review – 27 August 2017

I head to North Lincolnshire on Tuesday to see my Sister and Niece. I will still be putting posts up but things may be quiet otherwise as I intend to enjoy my time with them as I probably won’t see them again for several months.

I’ve been having a bit of a meltdown about my book, I finished my first draft yesterday but it’s currently novella length which wasn’t my intention. I need to decide whether I tidy it up and keep it as a novella, or whether I rework it and get it to a full novel length, among a number of other issues. I’ve sent it to a couple of good friends both of whom are much better writers than I am for their input.

Right, here is my bookish update for this week!

Week in Review – 25 June 2017

Well, what a glorious week! I have to say this weather really has brought out the best in me! I am sorry to all of you who turn into vampires and melt at the sight of the sun but I absolute adore this heat and the sun it’s really quite wonderful and I haven’t slept so well in ages. I hope now the temperature has dropped it doesn’t get all dark and gloomy again.

I started my new book feature on the mental health blog this week, it’s a monthly feature where I will review and spotlight a book with a mental health focus. This month was Boys Don’t Cry by Tim Grayburn. A book where Tim talks frankly and honestly about life with clinical depression, it’s well worth a look.

The TBR Topple book has also been decided and I don’t think it will be much of a surprise that the winner was The Gunslinger by Stephen King, I will be reading it next week so expect a review early July.

I’ll be away for a week after this, I’m heading to Cornwall with the tent and Hubs. I’m hoping to get in plenty of reading time though so will be battling to catch up on the reviews when I get home. There will be one blog tour posting during the week as I signed up before I knew I was going away but otherwise things will be very quiet here.

So, onto my bookish update this week…
