Week in Review – 30 July 2017

I’ve done a lot of writing this week, it’s been really productive and I’m very pleased as I was really struggling, but I started a new project and I’ve been really inspired with it so Yay!

Today I’m volunteering at a charity football match all day, with ex-players from my favourite club so I’m not going to be star struck or ogling or acting like a child at all..nope, not me!

I also hit a huge weight loss target this week, I’ve now managed to lose 34kgs/6st since I started this journey in November 2015! It’s been a long journey and so hard at times! I’ve also found out this week I’ve been shortlisted to be an Ambassador for This Girl Can in Bristol, which is really cool.

Right, here is my bookish update for this week…I’m gonna toddle off and find me some football players!

Review

Persephone Black is a rockstar, a rockstar who left her daughter with her sister, wrote a song about abandoning her then sent it to her on her birthday.

Savvy is that daughter and that song has followed her through her life, haunted her. She’s settled into a relationship with a DJ who nobody in her life likes too much and when he dumps her to progress his z-list career, she has to move home to her Aunt and she realises she needs to make some changes in her life.

As a bartender in a burlesque club she loves her job, it’s one of the few things she does love in her life. I loved that this was her job, it was such a simple but cool job for her to have and she was so good at it, the people she worked with were so nice and supportive and really had her back.

On a night out with her best friend she meets another bartender Milo, an American who is also searching for his dream and there is such a perfect energy between the two. You can see it coming before they do, it was so beautifully written and yet you just aren’t sure anything will actually happen because everything they are both working towards seems to be going in opposing directions.

I also loved how Persephone Black is brought back into the picture at the worst possible time for Savvy. And how the two navigate that awkward and very broken mother/daughter relationship.

Overall, a wonderful novel and for those who like a tipple there is a handy cocktail recipe at the back of the book aswell!

Sending a huge thanks to A.L. Michael, Canelo and Neverland Blog Tours for the eARC so that I could read and honestly review this novel.

Description:
Two’s company…

If you asked Mollie whether she struggled as a single mum, she’d have to cover her daughter’s ears before answering. Surrounded by friends, watching Esme grow into the sassiest eleven-year-old in North London, and building her name as TV chef Mollie Makes, Mollie’s never been happier. Well, that’s what she’d tell you. But as her best friends pair off, and Esme starts getting into trouble at school, Mollie wonders whether life would be different – not better…but easier – with a team mate.
