Getting Cozy With… Randy Richards

Hey Guys,

I’m back with another model. You’ll notice a few small changes to the feature this time around.  After the last one, I reviewed and decided a few things should be changed to make the whole thing come together a bit better. The first is the name. It was just a bit too long and clunky (and bright spark here couldn’t remember the old one.) So, I’ve shortened it rather significantly so it still says the same thing but with fewer words.

Another thing I changed was to do the live event on the model’s social account of their choice. This was for a few reasons, the first is that the models want to draw in an audience relevant to them and that is best done on their account. It’s better for them to have full ownership of the videos after they have taken part for their future promo work. Where possible, I will get a copy to share here for those who can’t make the scheduled live event.

So, who’s ready to meet Randy?

I first ‘met’ Randy when he did a takeover on author Nikki Landis’ group on Facebook. I, of course, liked his pages, because who can resist those shoulders (hey, it’s a thing… no judging!) and then I added him as a friend in an uncharacteristic moment of daring (this was a few days before this feature idea came about so what was I doing be-friending a male model?)

Randy is a friendly guy but he only says something when it needs to be said, he doesn’t unnecessarily talk for the sake of talking which is nice. If he says something to you or if he answers a question you have asked,  he is doing so because he wants to. In addition to modelling, he also works as a bartender where he lives in Chelmsford, Massachusetts (or near Boston to those of us who don’t live in the States).

He lives with his two dogs, Raider and Coco. They are adorable and despite Randy’s huge appeal, the dogs tend to steal the show when he is doing a live chat. Randy is not a reader (I know, I know!) But he does love dirt biking and playing drums in his spare time, what little he has. I mean, wow, perfect hobbies or what?! He admitted on the live chat that he was a band geek in school days to a chorus of “and me” from myself and Erin (who helps me put all of this together).

As for his music choices, he considers himself a rock person (good choice) but also listens to quite a bit of country and some rap, an eclectic mix then! I need to corrupt him a little more I see, get some heavier rock and metal in there!

Randy reminds me of the jasmine flower, you’ve seen it when you make tea, right? He’s all closed up and tentative at the beginning of your friendship, but as he starts to open up you see all this beauty that was being held back initially. Randy is definitely a man who is just as handsome on the inside, if not more so, as he is on the outside.

Keep your eyes peeled as he will very soon be gracing his first two book covers. I can’t say any more than that but they are on their way!

Randy and Fitness

While on the Instagram Live this week we talked to Randy about his fitness regime. He told us that his biggest tip he gives to people when they start training is to be consistent, to just put their head down and work for two months. Don’t check progress during those two months just work hard. Then at the end it will be easier to see how far you have come.

When he is prepping for a show or shoot he likes to give himself 16 weeks of training beforehand, his trainer preps his food and he eats five times per day. Right now he is in what he considers his ‘off season’ but he is hoping to compete in November so will train for that.

Despite all this good stuff he loves chocolate, and by the way he was devouring it on the chat blueberry muffins as well.

As Randy works as a bartender we thought it would be fun to bring you a sexy cover man cocktail recipe to enjoy while you read your next book.

Dark and Stormy

This is a fantastic cocktail and it always makes me think of Randy. Only two ingredients with a heavy rum base it’s delicious.

Ingredients 

  • 50ml Goslings Black Seal rum
  • 100ml ginger beer
  • Fresh Lime

Method

Fill a glass with ice and squeeze in some fresh lime. Add the ginger beer and float Gosling’s Black Seal rum over the top. Garnish with some fresh lime, and there you have it.

 

Finally, I thought I would leave you with some of Randy’s best shots…in my humble opinion. Thanks to everyone involved in getting this feature off the ground. Claire & Tanner in the Kitchen & Library with Michael @mhild08 @TastySeasonings

Hey Guys, I’m super excited about this new feature. If you’ve not seen me bouncing up and down all over social media about this for the past few weeks then where have you been? This is the first of a regular feature where I’ll get a gorgeous model come hang out with me for the day so that you can see just what these guys we drool over on our book covers are really like.

Before I start I just want to say thanks to, Tanner, who helped me brainchild this. Our ‘meeting’ was a pure fluke and absolute destiny. Erin, who nominated herself as my assistant when I thought I might lose the plot organising everything, and saved my skin. I love you girl! A big thank you to Richard at Pathways Talent Services for letting Tanner and I raid your guys, you’ve been awesome.

I also have to Thank our first model Michael who has been wonderful to work with. If all the guys are half as wonderful as you Michael I will not only have the best feature I’ve ever written every month but a lot of new people to call a friend.

Some of you came to the Facebook live event we ran on Wednesday, and this too will be regular so remember your questions and get the dates in the diary as I announce them. Michael was an absolute natural in front of the camera and his witty personality shone through, although making fun of me, imitating my accent and teasing me because I don’t know what Apple Jacks are; was just plain mean! If you want to watch the video never fear I would never let you down. I’ve placed a link at the bottom of the page for you.

I guess you want to know who Michael is, don’t you? I feel really honoured to have got to know Michael over the past few weeks. I’ll be honest, when Tanner and I put this idea together I had a little giggle at working with male models. I am a girl, you know? But from the first time I spoke to Michael on messenger, he gave me the impression of being so much more than any stereotype we might want to throw around. He was always extremely courteous and polite, answering questions quickly and I’d like to think we have formed a friendship as our conversations got sillier and funnier (you know me guys!)

I asked Michael if we could have a phone conversation to talk about his bio (this is what I’m writing now by the way) he agreed and we had a chat as he drove to work, on President’s Day. He has a day job in Sales (boo!) but the big thing that came over in my conversation with him (aside from the fact he has one of the nicest American accents I’ve ever heard) was the love he has for his two-year-old son. This is a man who lives, eats, and breathes for his little one, and even as a person who doesn’t really ‘do’ children I found that incredibly attractive.

He told me how he grew up all over the US lost his Dad at 21 and turned to alcohol but managed to find his way out of it turning to fitness as his outlet, this is now his passion, along with his family.

Our conversation kept going back to his family reinforcing his love and commitment to them. Even when I asked why he would want to be a book cover model, he told me because he wants to get his name out there so that he can make a living and provide for his son and ensure he grows up not having to worry.

You know when you’re a teenager and you have a picture in your head of what a guy will be like? You know what I mean, how they will be kind, considerate, polite, but still strong, masculine, and intelligent as well. Michael lives up to those ideals.

Sharing what I’ve learned about him with you has been such a pleasure and I can’t wait to see him gracing book covers because I have no doubt he will and soon.

Michael in the Kitchen

Tanner my partner in crime is an amazing cook and is determined to get us cooking healthy tasty meals. He also makes seasonings which are free from all the crap that we shouldn’t be eating. I’ve ordered some and can’t wait for them to arrive and I hope some of you will give them a try. This month we got Michael to try out the Asian Seasoning when he made Tanners Asian Chicken Stir Fry.

Ingredients 
Serves: 4 

  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons light soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 inch piece root ginger, peeled and grated
  • 2 to 3 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon Tanners Asian Seasoning
  • 500g chicken (any cut, I prefer thighs)
  • seasoned plain flour
  • vegetable oil
  • 1 red pepper, sliced
  • 4 chestnut mushrooms, sliced
  • 4 spring onions, sliced

Method
Prep:15min  ›  Cook:15min  ›  Extra time:15min marinating  ›  Ready in:45min 

  1. Mix the sesame oil, soy sauce, honey, ginger, garlic and Tanners Asian Seasoning in a bowl or plastic container.
  2. Dice the chicken into 3/4 to 1″ pieces and marinate in the sauce. Ideally marinate the chicken for 2 to 3 hours in the fridge, but 15 minutes will do if you don’t have time.
  3. Drain the chicken in a sieve and retain the marinade.
  4. Toss the drained chicken in the seasoned flour.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a wok (1/2 tablespoon for a non-stick wok, 2 tablespoons for a cast iron wok) until it’s smoking, and then stir-fry the chicken until it’s cooked through. Remove the cooked chicken and cover in foil on a warmed plate.
  6. Pour the marinade into a saucepan over a high heat and boil for at least 5 minutes.
  7. Stir fry the peppers, mushrooms and white parts of the spring onions for 2 to 3 minutes and then pour in the boiling marinade. Heat until the sauce has reduced and thickened slightly. Alternatively, you can thicken the sauce with either cornflour or arrowroot.
  8. Once the sauce has thickened, toss the chicken in the sauce. Sprinkle the chopped green parts of the spring onions over the top at the last minute.

So, I couldn’t have time with a gorgeous guy like Michael and not talk about books.

Michael isn’t a reader, he has only read one book all the way through it was called Nightmare. I did say that he just hasn’t found the right book yet and he needs to keep trying. So hopefully he will listen!

He told me his girlfriend reads a lot and loves Kristen Ashley.

Then we spoke about his son, and he told me how he loves the Dr Seuss books and he likes to read those with him. How adorable?
