#Review: Hunted by Mila Young @MilaYoungAuthor
Little Red Riding Hood. Three Big Bad Wolves. A Poisonous Scheme.
Scarlet, a healer, lives nestled in the forest surrounded by humans on one side and wolves on the other. But when a rogue wolf attacks her, she’s rescued by another pack and taken deep into their den to perform her healing magic on an injured Alpha.
The wolves in the forest are under threat from a mysterious affliction, and Scarlet is the only hope they have left. Faced with a mixed pack of threatened shifters, Scarlet must use her wits and magic to survive and unravel the strange affliction now affecting the wolves… All while trying to navigate an overpowering attraction to not just one, but three of the Alphas.
Witches, wolves, magic and love intertwine in an exciting mystery that finds its own, unique, ‘Happily Ever After.’
Note: Each book in the Haven Realm series is a standalone book.
I saw this being promoted in one of the reverse harem groups I am in on Facebook and while I am not generally a fan of fairy tales or fairy tale retellings there was something about the blurb which hooked me and I pre-ordered it.
Our Red Riding Hood in this story is Scarlet, a healer who runs a herb store in the human part of the world, near the forest where she lives. Close to where she lives is The Den, the part of the world ruled by wolves, neither is permitted to cross the boundary into the other’s realm, but when Scarlet witnesses something she isn’t supposed to she ends up in The Den by accident while fleeing for her life.
Rescued by Alpha’s and taken to a cabin she is asked to heal one of the Alpha’s who was injured rescuing her. But she is connected to these men…no wolves, and has to battle with her desire to return home versus her growing feelings for these men who ignite a fire inside of her body and soul.
I loved watching Scarlet interact with these three wolves, each of them very different, not only in their own personalities but in how they reacted to her. The dangers within the Den that were encroaching on the things happening within the cabin were very real and Scarlet’s desire to help was so genuine, proving some of the prejudice that was held about humans very wrong.
For me, this was a story which certainly had elements to remind you of the original story but was very much an original standalone story of its own which was what I loved most about it. Immediately after finishing it I pre-ordered the next two books in the series (the second now downloaded and read, review to follow shortly), i’m fairly sure I’ve found a new addiction.
I think I might have enjoyed fairy tales a bit more when I was younger if they were like this! Just saying!
