Review

When Chloe delivers an antiquity to a rich man in his New York Penthouse the last thing she expects is Dageus, an imposing Highlander who won’t let her leave and brings her into a hunt for the solution to a prophecy which is fantastical at the very least. Except for Dageus it’s a reality he is living proof of.

As their investigation sweeps them back to medieval Scotland Chloe becomes swept up in more than the investigation becoming enamoured with Dageus who becomes more dangerous to be around as each day passes.

I really enjoyed reading Chloe and Dageus’ dynamic and how they battle the odds together, I didn’t connect much with the paranormal elements of this story though. I just found that I didn’t find the evil elements believable and the time travel wasn’t really doing it for me. There were big chunks of this book that I skimmed through so that I could get back to the more enjoyable relationship elements of the story which is quite unusual for me as I normally feast on the paranormal elements of these stories.

This was an enjoyable book, Chloe and Dageus were a fantastic couple but it didn’t quite hit the mark overall for me as a paranormal romance. I doubt I’ll continue this series.

    1. I’ve read the first book in the Dark Fever series and I loved it, I haven’t got any further just because I have so many books to read, but I think I will get on with that one. Just didn’t connect so well with this one unfortunately.

  1. Same as me. I read this first book and then was like yeah… not enough to want me to keep going. It was the same for her Dark Fever series for me as well. I don’t think I’m a fan of her writing style or something despite people begging me to give the Fever series another try, lol.
