TAG: Anything But Books Tag

Anything But Books Tag

Huge thanks to CJ at Random Melon Reads for the tag on this one, you MUST go and read his answers to this as they are absolute class, some of the best answers I’ve ever read to a tag, he had me in stitches.

I love these tags where I get to talk about life outside of reading, we all know we are incessant bookworms but this life beyond books we all have is riveting and it’s great to share a bit more of it!

Name a cartoon that you love

There are a few…but I will go with one of my favourite go to’s…Family Guy. Everyone tells me I’m like Meg, not sure if that’s a compliment or that I’m a bit of a loser but I actually really like Meg’s character so I’m going with it!

What is your favorite song right now?

Holy shit who wrote this? How do I only choose one song? OK, I’m going to pick Dark Trip by Tremonti because I’m currently listening to it several times a day every day as it’s really helping me with the book I’m writing. It’s a deep song about pain and love, Mark Tremonti’s voice really is amazing, and his songwriting is absolutely stellar.

What could you do for hours that isn’t reading?

Gaming, sit me down with the Playstation and a good RPG like Dragon Age or Skyrim and I will easily lose six hours without blinking. I don’t play often but that is why, I can’t keep time I become completely absorbed and nothing else in the world exists, I forget to eat and drink, I scream and shout, my language (which is appalling anyway) gets far worse as I start killing anything and everything in sight. And God Help the bosses that I can never bloody get past!

What is something that you love to do that your followers would be surprised by?

Probably that I like going to the ballet, opera and classical concerts. I’m lumping them all together. Despite my bad mouth, obsession with SFF, and heavy metal lifestyle the girl who trained as a classical musician is still in here and likes to break out some culture now and again so I do go to the theatre for some great evenings. I tend to stand out like a sore thumb what with my hair and all but who cares?!

What is your favorite, unnecessarily specific thing to learn about?

Mythology, specifically Greek or Norse. I’ve been obsessed with Norse mythology since I was 13 and my history teacher awoke a love of Vikings in me. And the Greek obsession awoke when I moved to Greece when I was 20. I could read about both sets of mythologies/histories for days and have trawled through books until my eyes have been ready to explode. I love fiction based on the mythologies and am actually someone who doesn’t mind when someone twists the myths up to make a good book, I think that’s what they are there for to be explored and had fun with.

What is something unusual you know how to do?

Does marketing count? No I didn’t think so…

Oooh I used to play ice hockey…not sure I still could though. That’s pretty unusual for the UK I know those of you in the US will be like “that’s not unusual” but it’s pretty much unheard of here!

Oh I know! I not only can change the wheels on a car but I know how to change the brakes, and various other useful bits and pieces. My Dad was a mechanic and tyre fitter and was determined his kids wouldn’t be useless with a car. My Brother is much better than me so does most of the work on my car for me but there are certainly things I can do in an emergency or when I play assistant to him.

Name something that you’ve made in the last year

I’m guessing dinner doesn’t count? I’m not very good at making things. I didn’t get the crafty or baker genes from my Mum. I think I might skip this one and resign myself to the sad pile.

What is your most recent personal project?

I’m working on a biography, looking at my mental health, the crap I went through as a child, other things that have happened in my life. It’s slow going, I’m writing it in bits and pieces because it is so personal and I’m finding it far more difficult than I initially thought I would. I think it’s going to take me a few years to write, where I initially thought it would be a few months. I can’t work on it continuously so I’m not anticipating an end date any time soon.

Tell us something that you think of often.

Not a lot, my mind wanders a lot, but on lots of different things. There’s not one particular thing I go back to.

Tell us something that’s your favorite, but make it oddly specific.

I have a hoodie, that’s my favourite, it’s one of the only things I own that isn’t black, it’s old and ropey but I love it. I bought it in Oklahoma with my best friend who lives there. It’s a reminder of her and how much fun I had on that trip. I was there for my birthday and we went to a bar which was my first encounter with cowboys, real life cowboys. English girl in a cowboy bar…heaven! The hoodie wasn’t from that bar btw it was from a college bar which was also my first experience of a college bar and was pretty darn awesome! I love America big time btw!

  1. So many of your answers I agree with! I don’t play the Playstation personally but I love watching my husband play this game or that and I’ll cheer him on or curse at the screen right with him, haha. I’m more of a PC gamer than console gamer.
Greek and Norse mythology! I’m obsessed! Well not obsessed but I watch any show that touches on it. Have you seen the TV show Vikings or The Last Kingdom which is also about Vikings?
    Good luck on your biography!

  2. I love this tag! You always do the best ones. How awesome that you used to play ice hockey. I used to rollerblade, but I’ve never been able to ice skate well, LOL. I’m in line to read your biography. I would absolutely love that! ❤

    1. Haha, I was always amazing at skating backwards which as we know is perfect for hockey, my Mum used to figure skate and was quite put out that I didn’t take to the more delicate art of figure skating! 😂
I will have you be a beta reader when I do finish that biography but it might be 2039!!! 😂

      1. That’s so cool! Backwards was always a challenge for me, lol. How cool that your mom figure skated. It’s always mesmerized me and my grandmother would watch it on TV all the time. So cool.

You’ll have to let me know how you progress with the biography. It’s so exciting that you’re writing so much. I think doing what you’re doing would be therapeutic for me, personally. ❤ Kudos!

  3. Awesome answers! I used to do ice hokey when I was younger (for all of about 4 weeks). I was as good at ice hokey as I was at all other sports. 🙂

If you like RPGs, have you played Horizon Zero Dawn? I recently picked it up (i’m late to every party) and have sunk so many hours into it. Nowhere near as many as I have put into Skyrim though! XD

  4. With every tag, I find out a bit more about you but I am starting to kind of get a picture of who you are as a person and I like what I know about you so far! 🙂 You’re on cool woman and keep on rocking, even if it’s at a ballet/opera/etc 🙂

  5. I know I am super behind on my blog visits 😔 but I reallly quite enjoyed this! I loving getting to know more and more about you. I happen to be a huge fan of classical music and going to the opera is something I hopw to accomplish this coming year inspite of health. I would also love to see ballet (Swan Lake) is a fave or a broadway soon. Don’t get me started on the hours of my life lost to Skyrim haha.

  6. We have much in common, Claire! I am not a gamer but I totally get it. The love of metal and classical – me too, it’s just an appreciation of fine music. Not arty or cooky – tick! And Family Guy is my second choice cartoon after South Park 🙂

    1. I love it when we find things in common! We all sit behind our computers and talk about books but there is so much more going on in our lives! South Park rocks, I used to have the biggest Kenny collection toys, plushies! My brother stole them all! 😂
