Review

Tori Peterson witnesses every parent’s worst nightmare while picking her Niece up from school, another little girl being abducted. She isn’t quick enough to stop the abduction but she takes in as much detail as she can and raises the alarm. Determined to find out what happened to Abby Tori sets out on her own investigation using her connections as a local reporter to help her out.

Tori is closer to this than many would realise having been abducted as a little girl herself, and a parent from the school Mark becomes her only ally as she digs deeper and finds the connections that lead right back to her.

I loved Tori, her gumption, her unwillingness to just leave things alone. I hated how much pain she was in, how her own abduction had left her damaged and afraid.  I loved how Mark saw all of these things in her, he instinctively knew how to be with her, how far to push her, when to pull her in, when to love her, how to love her. I loved that his daughter seemed to instinctively see and know these things in both of them. She was a very clever kid,  probably the wisest character in the book.

The twists and turns in this book were mind blowing, I did suspect the person who turned out to be the abductor but dismissed them about five times telling myself I was being ridiculous. See always trust your instincts, Claire!

Overall, this was a strong, tense, and at times bloody hard to read book, but Mark and Tori are just such a wonderful couple I just wish they could have met walking the dog or something!

A huge thank you to Rachel Brimble and The Wild Rose Press for the eARC so that I could read and honestly review this book.
