TAG: Emperor’s New Clothes

the-emperors-new-clothes-tag

Big thanks to the very wonderful Nel @ Reactionary Tales for tagging me to take part in this tag. I’ve actually found it quite a difficult one to complete but interesting just the same!

“Your Majesty, this is a magic suit” – An Overhyped Book That Promised to be *Something More*

I was late to the A Game of Thrones party, I started reading it after the TV Show had started, which I love by the way. I respect that the show brought a lot of people to reading fantasy who never would have otherwise and that’s great but honestly reading that book is the most bored I’ve been reading a book in years. I’ve still got the rest of the series (so far) sat on my bookshelf, as I bought them all in one bulk buy, but I just can’t bring myself to pick up book two let alone the rest of them.

“Somebody send for the Queen” – A Love Interest That Wasn’t Called For

Hah, I was talking about this with Nel just yesterday! Jacob and Bella’s child, just ugh! Stephenie Meyer was/is not a good enough writer to pull that off it was just uncomfortable reading. I’m still amazed I made it that far to be honest!

“The doublet is a lovely shade of green” – A Book That Seduced You with Its Cover (that you ended up disliking)

I’m still totally in love with this cover but I barely made it past the halfway point before I had to admit defeat with this one. I’ve read so many fantastic reviews though I’m tempted to give it another go.

“Summon the court to convene” – A Book Where You Were Swayed by Public Opinion

I try to avoid hyped books, they rarely live up to expectation. Twilight definitely did not. I was on my honeymoon, in a cottage in Norfolk in November, everything was closed, it was cold, wet and I had no wifi, mobile reception or TV. I was stuck with these four books and nothing else to read. Complete torture!

“Look at the the King! Look at the King, the King, the King!” – A Stark Raving Mad Book That Just Boggles the Mind

I read a lot that’s a weird, especially shifter fiction, but this was beyond strange. A part pterodactyl part human boy going to high school and falling in love with a human girl. It became a DNF because I just couldn’t keep going with the weirdness on the page. I would be quite happy to never read anything this strange ever again. Honestly, how do people come up with this stuff?

“It’s altogether the very least the King has ever worn” – A Tropey Get Up You’ve Seen Before That Probably Needs Redressing (aka a trope you’re bored with seeing)

The love triangle. I liked this book, I like most books that have the love triangle in but I’m so bored with it.

“Summon the court physician! Call an intermission!” – A Book That Needs Medical Attention AKA A REWRITE

This had the potential to be a strong memoir to help people struggling with addiction instead it was a narcissitic name dropping bunch of tripe a rewrite would really do this book some good.

“It’s altogether the very least the King has ever worn” – There’s No Hiding For This One: A Book That Is Just Nakedly Bad

I don’t even remember why I didn’t like this one, I just know I really hated it!

Bonus: “His majesty is wide open to ridicule and scorn”- Something (anything) That Astounds You With Its Popularity

Love the movie but never could get through the book, it’s painfully slow going!

Thanks for the tag Nel!

  1. Another thing we have in common! Love Game of Thrones, the tv show, to death but you will never catch me reading the book. I’ve heard the man can describe a dress in one whole chapter. No thank you here! I remember your review about the Pterodactyl story. Good choice for that one. You are so welcome. Orangutan can make a cool tag eh?

      1. I made a tag a ways back and it was popular enough but the funniest thing was everyone thought James made the tag and he was showing a more romantic side of him 😉 hahaha

  2. I love the cover for The Dragon Legacy and Autumn Thorns. Shame you didn’t like them because I think I have them both added, lol! I still need to read Game of Thrones too, hee hee. This tag looks fun and thanks for tagging me for it! Will get to it soon. ❤

    1. Honestly I’m the only person I know of who didn’t like both of those books so I wouldn’t let my opinion cloud your potential enjoyment! And evidently I like to go against the grain just look at Game of Thrones and Twilight 😂

      1. Ha, well, it is a lot shorter than the other one! Sadly, I’m not an urban fantasy fan which is why I’m not enjoying it, I think Poison City is one of the only urban fantasy books I’ve loved so it’s definitely a case of it’s me and not the book with Split Feather. Oh well, we can’t like them all.

  3. Love GoT the show and I am yet to tempt reading the books… kind scared now that you found it boring… uuhhh…

Love the sound of the weird book- haha… wow!

This is a great tag- looks like a timeconsuming one, too 😀
