Big thanks to the very wonderful Nel @ Reactionary Tales for tagging me to take part in this tag. I’ve actually found it quite a difficult one to complete but interesting just the same!
“Your Majesty, this is a magic suit” – An Overhyped Book That Promised to be *Something More*
I was late to the A Game of Thrones party, I started reading it after the TV Show had started, which I love by the way. I respect that the show brought a lot of people to reading fantasy who never would have otherwise and that’s great but honestly reading that book is the most bored I’ve been reading a book in years. I’ve still got the rest of the series (so far) sat on my bookshelf, as I bought them all in one bulk buy, but I just can’t bring myself to pick up book two let alone the rest of them.
“Somebody send for the Queen” – A Love Interest That Wasn’t Called For
Hah, I was talking about this with Nel just yesterday! Jacob and Bella’s child, just ugh! Stephenie Meyer was/is not a good enough writer to pull that off it was just uncomfortable reading. I’m still amazed I made it that far to be honest!
“The doublet is a lovely shade of green” – A Book That Seduced You with Its Cover (that you ended up disliking)
I’m still totally in love with this cover but I barely made it past the halfway point before I had to admit defeat with this one. I’ve read so many fantastic reviews though I’m tempted to give it another go.
“Summon the court to convene” – A Book Where You Were Swayed by Public Opinion
I try to avoid hyped books, they rarely live up to expectation. Twilight definitely did not. I was on my honeymoon, in a cottage in Norfolk in November, everything was closed, it was cold, wet and I had no wifi, mobile reception or TV. I was stuck with these four books and nothing else to read. Complete torture!
“Look at the the King! Look at the King, the King, the King!” – A Stark Raving Mad Book That Just Boggles the Mind
I read a lot that’s a weird, especially shifter fiction, but this was beyond strange. A part pterodactyl part human boy going to high school and falling in love with a human girl. It became a DNF because I just couldn’t keep going with the weirdness on the page. I would be quite happy to never read anything this strange ever again. Honestly, how do people come up with this stuff?
“It’s altogether the very least the King has ever worn” – A Tropey Get Up You’ve Seen Before That Probably Needs Redressing (aka a trope you’re bored with seeing)
The love triangle. I liked this book, I like most books that have the love triangle in but I’m so bored with it.
“Summon the court physician! Call an intermission!” – A Book That Needs Medical Attention AKA A REWRITE
This had the potential to be a strong memoir to help people struggling with addiction instead it was a narcissitic name dropping bunch of tripe a rewrite would really do this book some good.
“It’s altogether the very least the King has ever worn” – There’s No Hiding For This One: A Book That Is Just Nakedly Bad
I don’t even remember why I didn’t like this one, I just know I really hated it!
Bonus: “His majesty is wide open to ridicule and scorn”- Something (anything) That Astounds You With Its Popularity
Love the movie but never could get through the book, it’s painfully slow going!
Thanks for the tag Nel!
