The Bloggers Bookshelf – Joanne from Portobello Book Blog @portybelle

Hi Guys, welcome back to The Bookshelf. Each week I feature an author or book blogger and talk about their bookshelf with them. It’s a light-hearted, book focused, Q&A.

This week I have the very lovely and well-known Joanne from Portobello Book Blog. I think pretty much everybody in the book blogging world knows Joanne and her blog. It’s a fantastic blog and if you haven’t visited her yet, where have you been?

Without further ado here is her bookshelf…

What was the first book you remember having on your bookshelf?
Probably Five on a Treasure Island. I loved Enid Blyton books and collected all of the Famous Five series. I still have them in my attic!

What was the most recent book you added to the bookshelf?
The most recent physical book is A Life Between Us by Louise Walters

Which book have you most recently read from your bookshelf?
I have just finished A House Called Askival by Merryn Glover: an epic novel set in India which really made me feel as though I was there!

Which 5 books from last year would you not let go of from your bookshelf?
Looking at my 2016 Top Reads list I would choose:
The Farm at the Edge of the World by Sarah Vaughan
Under a Pole Star by Stef Penney
With Our Blessing by Jo Spain
The Secret Wife by Gill Paul
And I’m going to cheat and pick one I read recently for the fifth – The Heart’s Invisible Furies by John Boyne

Which books are you most looking forward to adding to your bookshelf?
Maria in the Moon by Louise Beech and Why Mummy Drinks by Gill Sims

Which genre is most predominant on your bookshelf?
Contemporary fiction

Which genre do you wish you had more of on your bookshelf?
I don’t think there is anything I wish I had more of, I’m quite happy with the balance.

If your bookshelf could talk what would it say?
Why not read some of these books before you add some more!

What colour do you see more of when you look at your bookshelf?

Can you share a picture of your bookshelf / favourite bookshelf?
We don’t have a lot of bookcases following a big clear out a couple of years ago. Nowadays, I tend to read, then pass on to friends or a charity shop. This is one on the bedroom, the top books are mostly my husband’s and I seem to have a lot of Lulu Taylor books to read! My review pile is all the cupboard.

About Joanne

Book lover, nature watcher, keen cook and baker, always on the go and love living by the sea. I am passionate about books and reading. I enjoy a wide variety of books but would say my favourite genres are contemporary fiction or thrillers and I also enjoy a good love story. I love hearing about what others are reading and sharing what I’ve been reading and enjoying.

I'm BrizzleLass, I have Bipolar and have been dealing with mental illness in one form or another since childhood, I was first diagnosed with depression at nine. It's not easy speaking out about my experiences, some of them are extremely painful, but if I can help even one person then I have succeeded in sharing my story. This is where I talk about my mental health among other things that interest me. I enjoy walking, PlayStation, reading, heavy metal, and spending time with my Niece.

  1. Love looking at these! I immediately clicked on Under A Pole Star, but the reviews told me it was more sex than survival, so will pass. Always pleased to see another John Boyne fan, I’ve read ALL his books!!
