What is your favorite vacation destination?
Hands down Greece, specifically Samos which is where I used to live, although we have been visiting parts of Greece we haven’t been to in recent years and doing island hopping from whichever island we’ve based ourselves at, including trying to spend at least a few days in Samos. Athens is also a wonderful city and amazing for a city break, I’ve only ever visited Athens in the winter though so at some point I would love to go in summer.
What is your favorite book to movie conversion? Why?
OK, I don’t watch too many movies, and this is probably controversial because stuff was skipped other stuff was changed and I am a die hard fan of the book but The Hobbit. I bloody loved those movies. I’m actually quite good at separating book from movie so if things are different I am pretty good at saying “OK I get why they needed to do that for the purposes of the screen adaptation” and just moving on and enjoying the movie for what it is. I try not to get hung up on every scene amendment, dialogue change etc. That must be exhausting right?
What’s your favorite childhood memory?
Picking up a Saxophone for the first time. I was 14 and already played several instruments by this point. I remember my teacher handing me the instrument and going over the basics with me, it’s very similar to the clarinet which I played to diploma level. He popped some music in front of me and asked me to give it a go so we could see where I was starting from. It was an instant fit, other than a few fingering hiccoughs I was playing like I’d played it for years. I had my diploma within a year, was first chair in the school band and invited into the jazz band, the only girl and non sixth form student. I loved playing that saxophone so much.
When you aren’t reading/ blogging, what hobbies and activities take up your time?
Writing is consuming my time at the moment, I’ve never really given into my writing before, well not like this at least! Otherwise walking and hiking, and recently working out, since losing a lot of weight I’ve really got hot on working out again and as much as I bitch about it I love how it’s making me feel. And going to gigs, music will always be my first love!
What would your dream job be?
I would love to work in mental health, I volunteer at a mental health charity and it’s so rewarding, if I’m honest not getting paid doesn’t bother me right now. But if I lose my benefits that’s going to become a problem!
And because I’m greedy, writing, I think most of us bloggers feel this way, wouldn’t being paid to write be awesome?
If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
I’d like some Jessica Jones style powers! I’ve always loved Jessica Jones, her powers are super cool yet understated.
What is your favorite characteristic about yourself?
Yikes! I have no idea, I think it’s probably my new found ability to think before I speak. This is something I have learned in the last year and it’s already saving me a lot of arguments. This is not to say I won’t tell someone if they are being a complete douchebag because I totally will but I just think the face I’ve learned to pause and consider my response before I talk is huge.
If you could give new bloggers a tip, what would it be?
Be yourself. I think a lot of new bloggers try to conform to a type, or to copy other bloggers. Ultimately it’s important to be yourself, let your personality shine through.
What is the most memorable book you’ve ever read and what made it so memorable?
The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks this was the first proper fantasy novel I ever read and it got me hooked, I was maybe 13 when I read it. I’m planning to re-read because I just want to re-live that feeling I got. I remember getting butterflies in my stomach and thinking I’d discovered the holy grail or something equally special! I never looked back after that.
If you could bring any fictional character to dinner who would it be and why?
Wydrin from Jen Williams’ Copper Cat trilogy. I have a serious girl crush on this character and there is no way I’d miss the chance to have her over for dinner!
What’s one item on your bucket list?
To visit Australia
I’ve literally run out of question ideas so I’ve borrowed these from a previous tag I completed (sorry)!
