Little Gray Dress - Aimee Brown

As soon as I read the description for this book I knew I had to read it, plus as always supporting another blogger turned author is an absolute pleasure and something we all love to do. Congratulations on your book baby Aimee.

Description

Emi Harrison has avoided her ex-fiance, Jack Cabot, for nearly two years. Her twin brother Evan’s wedding is about to end that streak.

From bad bridesmaid’s dresses, a hyperactive sister-in-law, a mean girl with even meaner secrets, and too much to drink, nothing seems to go right for Emi, except when she’s wearing her little gray dress.

When she speed-walks into Liam Jaxon’s bar, things get more complicated. He’s gorgeous, southern, and has no past with Emi. He may be exactly what she needs to prove for the last time that she doesn’t need or want Jack!

Her favorite little gray dress has made an appearance at nearly every major event in Emi’s adult life. Will it make another grand appearance when she least expects it?

Review

When Emi found her fiancé Jack in a compromising position a few days before their wedding her world came crashing down around her. After moving away she managed to avoid him, until her twin brother marries Jack’s sister and she has to go back and face everybody including Jack who unknown to her is now engaged to her arch enemy.

Poor Emi was put through the wringer, she is such a lovely girl and her heart has been torn out and even two years later it’s clear she has not moved on in any way from Jack. It was quite difficult reading her story while her denial of how much she loved Jack shone out like a beacon. To have been so deeply betrayed and yet still loved him years later was heartbreaking.

When she saw him and realised he was engaged I felt her heart break all over again. Liam the bartender who picks her up was wonderful, I thought he was such a nice person and would really love to pick him up and hug him because he was so kind and the perfect distraction.

As the lies unravel through the book it’s hard not to feel so sad for this couple who had everything ripped away from them. People interfering and ruining everything for people who loved each other so much. I couldn’t see how they could possibly come back from all the hurt and betrayals.

I loved how the book alternated chapters between the current storyline and Emi and Jack’s backstory, it was lovely to see their history and how their story had developed. They were such a wonderful and loving couple and their story is beautiful before it all fell apart.

There are some wonderful characters in this book and Aimee Brown has put some great plot twists in that I honestly couldn’t see coming. I had expected one ending and got a completely different one so that was quite unexpected.

A fantastic debut, I can’t wait to see what comes next.

Sending a huge thanks to Aimee Brown for the eARC so that I could read and honestly review this novel.
