TAG: I’m A Rockstar #Tag

Oh, I have SO been looking forward to doing this one! I think everyone knows I’m a huge heavy metal fan and I used to write my reviews about metal back in the day so to do a tag on the subject of music is kind of a bit exciting!

A huge thanks to Liz @ Cover to Cover for the tag, sorry for the delay in getting to it but as promised there was no way I was missing this one. Liz is bloody awesome folks, she writes epic reviews and she’s a drummer which is just bloody brilliant!

OK, let’s get started…did I mention I’m really excited to do this one…

What is the name of your band, or if you are a solo artist, your stage name (example: Lady Ga Ga, Snoop Dog, Puddles the Clown, etc…)?

Basket Mentality

Well I think it sums me up perfectly!

What genre or style of music are you known for?

Well duh! Metal, Let’s narrow it down a bit aswell as metal is huge, Symphonic Metal would be my choice. I was a classically trained musician and I love the way symphonic melds both classical elements with metal. If I was to start a band this is the direction I would go so I could incorporate my classical training with my love of metal, that would be perfect.

What instrument do you play or are you the lead singer?

I would probably sing, my voice has got a bit ropey the past few years because I don’t sing so much anymore but some training would sort that. I used to play the cello so with some training I could probably pull a bit of a female Apocalyptica!

I can also play the Clarinet and Saxophone but I don’t feel like they have a place in this band, maybe an occasional break here and there.

If you could be the opening act for any band currently touring who would it be?

Apocalyptica or Nightwish…both of them! They’re both symphonic metal so that would be AWESOME!

If it was ANY metal act then…oh Christ this is hard there are so many that are so good! Possibly Avenged Sevenfold, I’m totally in love with M Shadows voice, I could literally listen to him singing until the end of time. They also put on an amazing show so it would never get boring, and are about the same age as me so no danger of young whippersnappers making me feel like an old lady!

Who would you name as your musical inspiration? This person can be currently breathing, or not.

OK she’s more rock than metal but Lzzy Halestorm from Halestorm. She’s not only got a voice to die for, I literally would kill people to get that voice. But she’s unapologetically herself. She stands up for women being who they are. She gets a lot of shit about how she looks, what she wears, how she cuts her hair all that bullshit and she basically tells those people “fuck you”, she tells the young girls who like the band to be themselves, to not care what people say and to always be true to themselves. I’ve always been that way myself, I’ve never cared if people stare at me when I walk down the road because of how I’m dressed or how my hair is coloured or cut. And I love that she is a really positive role model especially for younger girls.

What special item do you ask for in your dressing room on a tour contract rider?

Loads of water! I’m sober so all the drugs and alcohol that bands normally consume will have to pass me by, I drink copious amounts of water though so loads and loads of water!

Also after a set on stage it’s likely I’ll have the munchies so plenty of gluten & dairy free snacks and fruit would be awesome!

What item from home do you pack in your suitcase to take on tour?

Laptop and Kindle I know it’s two items … sue me!

What does your stage attire look like?

Something like this….but less frilly on the top and flat boots I Don’t do heels!

What backstage nickname have the roadies given you based on your personality?

hmmm I have a few nicknames but the one that tends to stick is Robbo (because of my maiden name) so I imagine they would latch onto that.

Every successful rockstar has a special charity. What’s yours?

I have a few but they are all mental health based, I’m currently fundraising for Bipolar UK so lets go with that!

What is the title of your memoir going to be?

Oooh I know this because I’m writing it 😀

The Sound of Madness (I sort of borrowed that from Shinedown who I will be recognising in there somehow)

  1. I love this tag, Claire. I saw it recently and knew I’d love to do it. Thanks for tagging me.

I loved all of your answers! I still think it’s so amazing that played cello. I always found that one challenging. There are a few difficult questions here, but I’ll get this done soon. Thanks again! 💗

    1. Yay! I’m so glad you want to do it! I knew you would be one person who would probably like it as you often talk about music! I did struggle with cello it’s very difficult to learn but I started to learn to play it when I was 7 and it is still to this day my favourite instrument to listen to. Unfortunately it got sidelined for my other instruments as I got older and only had so much time, my school specialised in wind instruments and won awards for their performances so it only made sense for me to concentrate on those instruments more closely at the time. 😞

      1. Thats amazing! How cool that your school won awards. I love to hear it.

Our county schools didn’t have strings and I had to teach myself in high school because I had an interest. I started with violin, then cello, then viola. Too fun!

This is so cool 😉 Again, thanks for the tag. I’ll do it very soon! 🖤🖤🖤

  2. Awesome Claire.. thank you so much for doing this and for the fantastic shoutout! 🙂

Oh my, you said so many cool things in your replies that I don’t even know where to start saying all my feedback. basically, you are awesome… I’m not Jesus is indeed a great tune.. and Apocalyptica is mighty… I can totally see the female version of it working out 😀 Hey… Cello? That is classy! I love that you have musical education- Have you seen 2CELLOS on youtube? They do covers for all sorts of tunes (rock as well) and they’re easy on the eye, the two lads 😉

Love your band name of course- made me laugh the minute I read it- super name for a band!

Gosh I love this tag- it really brings out so many interesting ideas and the headbangers together 😀 Totally loving it!

    1. Haha! Yes I’ve actually seen 2Cellos live! I have a serious thing for the cello! I’ve seen apocalptica like five times now I think?! Another really good cellist is Tina Guo she just brought out an album of video game music which is epic!

      1. ah, go you! I wish I would visit concerts as often… ah, I’m just boring now and mostly at home on my arse, could not be bothered 😀 hahaha… but I am sure they were all a great experience!

      2. Haha! I’m lucky living in a city and near other big cities so there are always loads of concerts. My gig buddy is also a decade younger than me so that helps kick my ass and stop me getting lazy!
