Welcome to my stop on the A Cotswold Christmas Blog Tour written by Kate Hewitt and hosted by Neverland Blog Tours. I’m very pleased to be taking part and hope you enjoy my guest post from the author.
Welcome to Wychwood-on-Lea… a not-too-quaint village where frosty evenings, welcoming fires, and second chances will make this a Christmas you’ll never forget.
Anna Vere has escaped to the Cotswolds for Christmas to try to heal from her broken engagement and, far worse, her broken dreams. When her reserved room at a bed & breakfast is flooded, she takes up the offer of camping out in Willoughby Close, the converted stables of the nearby manor house… and is taken under the wing of sexy local carpenter Colin Heath.
What starts out as merely helping a neighbor in need turns into far more as Colin and Anna share a surprisingly intense and emotional connection, weaving their own Christmas magic as they spend the holiday together. But Anna has a secret she’s scared to reveal, something that could destroy the fragile bond they’ve just created, and Colin knows she’s only in England for a short time. Can these two sudden soul mates risk their hearts for a love that has yet to be tried and tested?
Get swept away by this poignant and heartwarming story, set in beautiful Wychwood-on-Lea, in the English Cotswolds. And look forward to four more books set in Willoughby Close, where everyday miracles and happily-ever-afters are guaranteed.
Welcome to Wychwood-on-Lea by Kate Hewitt
A year ago I moved to a village in the Cotswolds that is the inspiration behind my new Willoughby Close series. Having come from a deprived area in the north of England, I was a little taken aback by the amount of Burberry, the gleaming black Range Rovers, and the endless electric gates. I was worried that the perfectly coiffed Yummy Mummies at the school gate would turn their noses up at me and that I’d never fit into this Country Living version of rural life.
But what I discovered is that while the Cotswolds are beautiful, and yes, with plenty of wealthy people swanning around, it’s also a place like any other, and the mix of farmers’ wives and London transplants rubbing elbows at the school gate intrigued me. So I thought up a series of stories based around four women from very different walks of life who all end up at Willoughby Close, a former stables converted into a set of cottages.
A Cotswold Christmas is the introduction to Willoughby Close and the fictional village of Wychwood-on-Lea, which is, of course, based on the village I lived in. I loved creating all the interesting and not-to-quaint places as well as the many quirky secondary characters. Sometimes fiction blends with reality and it’s hard to remember what (or even who!) I made up and what I didn’t. I was talking to my husband about a restaurant in the village and when he looked at me blankly I realized it didn’t exist, outside of Willoughby Close. Oops!
We’ve since moved from the beautiful Cotswolds to an equally lovely part of the world—the Welsh Borders. So perhaps my next series will take place in a small market town in Wales…
Do you like series set in the same place? What kind of place is your favourite? Do look out for A Wychwood Winter, the second book in the Willoughby Close series.
