Review:
When Dylan and her brother Devin lose their parents in a car accident they are taken in by the Rhodi, warriors fighting to save the dystopian world of Crescentia from assassins set on destruction. The Rhodi see promise in the twins and take them under their wing and start training them as Rhodi.

Dylan has secrets though, she suffers with panic attacks and cuts herself, as her inner despair deepens her journey with the Rhodi becomes more dangerous and she needs to decide if she can overcome her feelings and self-doubt to truly be one of them.

This is truly a coming of age book which really deals with teenage mental health in a clever and new way. Putting the teenager who is suffering into such a strong position where they are becoming a warrior, learning to be physically powerful as a way to overcome their mental health issues was interesting. As someone who has bipolar and has cut as a way of coping I felt the topic was handled sensitively and realistically.

There is a trigger warning at the beginning of the book and I feel it’s only right that this is there as people struggling with these emotions may find the nature of the book a little too much so need to consider that seriously before diving in. However Megan Linski has created a strong and sensitive character in Dylan, someone who does her very best to overcome the cutting and learn to accept the help offered.

I found the main storyline of the book a little hard going though, and felt there wasn’t quite enough action for me for a book of this genre. I like these books to be quite fast paced and I felt for the length not much happened.

Thank you very much to Megan Linski and Gryfyn Publishing for a copy of the novel to review this book honestly for the blog tour.
