Letting You Go - Anouska Knight

Review: Letting You Go by Anouska Knight

What if a tragedy occurred and you only had yourself to blame? How do you move on from the past?

Alex Foster lives a quiet life, avoiding the home she hasn’t visited in eight years. Then her sister Jaime calls. Their mother is sick, and Alex must return. Suddenly she’s plunged back into the past she’s been trying to escape.

Returning to her hometown, memories of the tragic accident that has haunted her and her family are impossible to ignore. Alex still blames herself for what happened to her brother and it’s soon clear that her father holds her responsible too. As Alex struggles to cope, can she ever escape the ghosts of the past?

I realised a few days ago that I finished this book while I was sick last year and on a blog break so I never actually posted my review up here…slapped wrists for me! So huge apologies to Anouska Knight and MIRA who sent me a proof copy to review as I had the review written I just forgot to publish it! Oops!

Letting you Go is a moving story of a young woman’s need to let go of the past, to accept the future and to find love with her family and the man she has loved since she was a teenager and her brother died whilst in her care.

She has blamed herself for his death, and she has felt the weight of blame from her family, especially her father. After her mother is taken ill she has to stop running from her feelings and his feelings and return home to help look after her Mum. This leads to her facing up to what happened to her brother and facing the relationship with her father while secrets are unveiled which reveal things that make her relationship with her entire family before and after her brother’s death become so much clearer.

This book is beautifully written, it is moving and shows that families usually have far more going on beneath the surface than as an individual we often know. Once people start becoming honest and opening up we start to understand the bigger picture and putting things to rest.

A huge thanks to Anouska Knight and Cara at MIRA for the ARC to review this wonderful book…this review is my honest opinion and has nothing to do with my delay in posting!
