Blog Tour: Her Hometown Redemption by Rachel Brimble

Welcome to my stop on the Her Hometown Redemption blog tour which has been organised by Brook Cottage Books. I’m very pleased to be taking part and hope you enjoy your time here and if you’ve read the book let me know your thoughts in the comments. Also, don’t forget to take part in the Giveaway at the end of the post!

Description:
She’s back to right her wrongs.

When Tanya Todd returns to Templeton Cove, she knows better than to expect a warm welcome. She burned a few bridges on her way out of town, and making amends won’t be easy. First on her list is the man whose heart she carelessly shattered, Liam Browne.

Seeing the successful criminal lawyer after all these years, Tanya is interested in more than just Liam’s forgiveness. As they work together to bring the man who hurt her sister to justice, the attraction between them sizzles. Suddenly Tanya’s second chance could include a future with Liam…if she can prove she’s changed.

Review:
I will admit to being someone who was tainted to the Mills & Boon brand. I remember growing up visiting one of my Grandparents who seemed to have endless piles of Mills & Boon novels in her house (she was also a hoarder so this did not help the image)! I would sit on her stairs and pick one of the books up randomly to kill time while we were there and read until it was time to leave.

So, there were a few things wrong with this picture, one is what child of 8-14 should be reading Mills & Boon novels for one! Secondly, these were the Mills & Boon novels of the 70’s-80’s and they were for the most part pretty awful, from the covers to the writing. Add in the fact I was a through and through tomboy with depression and severe emotional issues plus my earlier point about my age, no wonder I was scarred!

So, after this explanation it wouldn’t surprise you to know that I came onto this tour at the last minute after another host was taken ill. I haven’t read any other books in this series, nor anything Rachel Brimble has written before.

This book was beautiful, it really was, it was simple, yet complicated. An easy read, yet so emotional. There were such difficult and harrowing topics discussed but with compassion and Rachel Brimble didn’t go into such a depth that they got uncomfortable and the point of the book, romance, was overshadowed.

In all honesty this was nothing like I remembered the Mills & Book brand (and hallelujah to that), Tanya was a strong woman who after a rough break needs time and compassion to deal with her own emotions, to learn to like and love herself again. There are plenty of strong women who know how that feels. She’s realised that to be strong doesn’t necessarily translate into being mean and that money and status do not translate into happiness.

I found how vulnerable Liam is wonderful, how refreshing to get a lead male character who is vulnerable, afraid of his own feelings. He had so many of the characteristics usually reserved for female romance characters, yet they suited him and his situation so well, and we all know that at the heart men are softies too!

I’m so pleased I had the opportunity to read this book and take part in this blog tour. If you’re like me and have reservations about Mills & Boon, put them aside and give this book a go

Thank you to Brook Cottage Books for inviting me onto this blog tour and for the ARC for my review.
