Welcome to my stop on the Under My Skin blog tour, I’m so pleased you’ve stopped by to find out a little more about this wonderful book.
What if we’re all monsters, on the inside?
Chloe was once a normal girl. Until the night of the car crash that nearly claimed her life. Now Chloe’s mother is dead, her father is a shell of the man he used to be and the secrets that had so carefully kept their family together are falling apart.
A new start is all Chloe and her father can hope for, but when you think you’re no longer human how can you ever start pretending?
A contemporary reworking of a British horror classic, Under My Skin follows seventeen-year-old Chloe into an isolated world of darkness and pain, as she struggles to understand what it really means to be alive.
Set against the familiar backdrop of everyday, normal teenage worries, Chloe’s world has become anything but…
I’m a huge fan of this genre. I love dark, horror and paranormal novels and was intrigued to see how Zoë Markham had reworked one of my favourite classics for a modern young adult audience and I wasn’t disappointed. She has produced an absolute gem that you don’t have to be a young adult to enjoy!
Chloe is such a personable character, telling her story from the first person perspective it is like getting a sneak peek into her diary at times. Whilst she deals with life after death, constant pain, a changed life, losing her Mother and rebuilding a relationship with her Father you also see her tackle anxiety and normal teenage growing pains.
Information about what happened to Chloe, why her Dad does what he does for her is drip fed through the book making it almost impossible to guess what is happening in the bigger picture, why it is happening and what will happen. It makes reading the book an absolute pleasure and makes some of the plot twists you are hit with absolutely shocking.
Under My Skin was such a pleasure to read and I finished wanting to know what happens next in Chloe’s story. There were so many potential path’s she could go down, so many possible plot twists I do hope there will be a second book because this was a character who was a delight to follow, even during her hard times!
Thank you to Neverland Book Tours and Zoë Markham for the ARC in return for my review.
